Title: Monsters at landscape seams
Post by: Cowlikk on August 21, 2005, 02:07:20 pm
It would be nice if monsters were barred from staying within a certain distance of landscape seams, such as the one on ojaroad, so that little people who can\'t take 80 damage twice per round can maybe run past them without getting smashed while staring at the loading screen, only to end up seeing themselves dead for 2 seconds before another loading screen. (The thug in the forest, and today a hooked monkey thing in the hallway nearer the second town)

It makes it more likely for little folks to travel around and gain interest, rather than being stuck in the sewers in the same mile of tunnels for months and months, watching more experienced players who can easily kill bigger monsters stand there and snipe rats. (Can\'t figure out why that\'s an issue... people must not be very bright. Maybe they aren\'t even people, but highly intelligent rocks that failed the turing test anyway?) But irregardless of why some people think it\'s more fun to be annoying than it is to be competitive (maturity levels critically low) or why _people_ who can easily kill a Tefusang would ever even bother swatting at a rat where a noobie is trying desprately to make the weeks-long initiation hazing shorter <<>> Anyway... keeping cool people (ones interested in role-playing) around and playing is going to be easier if they can get as far away from the robotic sociopaths as possible (You know who you are, I bet you play Arishkakage in Virtua Fighter and never allow the opponent to block. Try speaking to someone once in a while, your voice box exists so that you can do something besides hit things with a stick. Oh, and please stop challenging everyone you see to a duel every time they get within range. Maybe look up the term \"Role Play\" sometime. If there were really that many sociopaths running around pointing weapons at everyone they meet.... well okay, there used to be, but the rest of us banded together and put them in jail.).

Hmm... Maybe we could have jail, and court, and all the corrupt politics involved? Most importantly the jail. Some people need to be tied to a tree and tickled until they say something. And others just need to be put in a box and left there to do what they always do, which is lash out at the walls and talk to their imaginary friends.

I can imagine that first issue being rather annoying, thing is usually those monsters aren\'t supposed to be there but are lured there by other players, either by accident or for the specific purpose of getting weaker players killed.

May I suggest that you find a roleplaying solution for this though? Just try to find some strong fighters who are willing to help you out and get rid of that monster or at least distract it enough for you to get past. Hire an escort ;)

There are quite a few annoying people out there but a lot more nice and friendly players.

The easiest and simplest way of fixing the first issue is just to tell monsters not to attack the people who are zoning(switching zones). this can be done with a simple zoning flag for each character that is sent to server and passed on to the mobs so they know \"this guy is still loading the map. I have to leave him alone\".

Also, about the whole immatureness issue.. noobs will be noobs,, what are you going to do? unless you can somehow force them to act more immature, asking them nicely wont work.
