Hi all.
I move this Thread over here to Linux-specific Issues.
(It was in Newbies Questions) I asked this:
I\'m new so maybe I am missing something.
I installed the PlaneShift-Client last Night from Gentoo-Portage then I did the recommended Update (this morning) which worked fine.
I ran planeshift-setup and edited the settings.
This morning I registered myself at http://laanx.fragnetix.com/register, fragnetix is, besides, the only Server in my List is this correct?
The Server tells my that I\'m running an incorrect Version.
I\'m running Planeshift CrystalBlue(0.3.010), on laanx.fragnetics.com but i saw that there was an Update on 19.08.2005... maybe it\'s about that?
Should I downgrade? and if I should, which Version is recommended?
---------------------------
After being told to run the Updater again, which worked fine, I had the following Problem:
Thanks for your answer.
This is moving fast, I ran the Updater this morning.
Now I run it again and it fetches about 8MB.
But now I have another Problem...
Update begins with:
Warning, can\'t find Paths for win or mac or linux updater application!
(Server only) Critical files ( not found (Server only)
NOTIFY: psUpdaterEngine initialized.
Downloading registry...
# He checks for Updates then:
Warning: Couldn\'t find Module \'other_os\' in registry.
# Then he performs various Updates and finishes with:
==== Update complete ====
Maybe this is something about the Gentoo-install?
Or do I have to edit configs manually? And if so, which ones?
------------------------------------------------------
Then Wired_Crawler told me that:
Hello.
You have to upgrade to version 0.3.011. Read about it here http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard...1&styleid=4
Also remember, that there is Linux specific forum.
--------------------------------------------------------
So here I am.
I have downloaded the new Installer and put it in the same Directory as the old one but it doesn\'t work with my Installation from Portage.
Is it possible to get this running? Or is it recommended to do a whole new install (this took me some time...)
Error Message is the following:
Creating directory ps.cb.03.011.linux.x86.update2
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Update For Planeshift Crystal Blue Version 3.011 relase 2..
which: no dialog in (/usr/kde/3.3/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/opt/bin:/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5-20050130:/opt/Acrobat5:/opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2.01/bin:/opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2.01/jre/bin:/usr/qt/3/bin:/usr/kde/3.4/bin:/usr/kde/3.3/bin:/usr/games/bin:/opt/vmware/bin)
Checking if dialog program is installed...
Dialog program, which is required to use this software, cannot be found.
Please install this program before continuing Planeshift installation.
You may obtain it from your distribution FTP or install disk.
If someone has a clue on what to do...
Best regards
Niels

Well, have you read this error message? It tells you exactly what to do.

\'emerge dialog\'.
-
Ah... OK. Thanks. :)
I thought this dialog was something PlaneShift-specific...

Hi again.
I have emerged dialog and the Updater has updated for about half an hour...
but I still get the same error that I\'m running an incorrect version :(

Let\'s suppose you installed PS in /opt/planeshift, remove everything from this
dir except art, then run the UPDATE2 and specify as install dir /opt.
Regards.

Now it works!
Thanks alot.

This is not a good solution.. If you\'re not going to keep the original binaries, then you should emerge -C planeshift and use build scripts or Platyna\'s linux installer.
The new version of Planeshift is available in portage, please see this thread: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=18931&boardid=41&styleid=4
