So I propose to create a game for the forum active (and non active) users.
The rules are the following:
You know a strange object. Broadcast its picture here. During a predefined period (precize it but dont chose more than 2weeks) people will have to search what it could be... if no one find, you can tell the answer once the period is finished.
Once the middle of the period you have predefined passed, you can help people by saying for example where its used or precise the domain where to search.
NB: I saw that on a french forum for the first time... there were guys extremly incredibly amazingly powerful in that game! It was so amazing!
Who wana start?
-
So somone posts a pic and others have 2 weeks to guess what it is?
-
yeah Efflixi.
Try to propose something first. I thought about you when i created this thread.
-
I\'ll bite. Let\'s start with an easy one.
\\/ What is this?

...O.o
Hmm lets see...
A... Umm...
Well lets see. It moves that black thing looks like a handle that you turn.
Is it those penny squisher things? (ya im way off i know)
-
table or a sewing machine.....
-
has it something to deals with thread ?
-
Well I\'m glad you are all trying at least. I\'m not sure I can wait two weeks to tell you. :)
I am allowed to give hints at the one week mark correct?
-
its some kind of wooden construction that has wheels, seems to have a clock on it too?
is it a wooden clock on wheels?
-
Looks like... a table for some kind of game... Wow... never seen anything like it...
-
[EDIT: for some stupid reason that smiley appeared up there.. I\'m still asking how that happened.. odd..]
Strange Piece of Wood.
Or
Legandary Piece Of Wood Of Oddness.
Or even
Epic Strange Piece Of Wood Of Something.
It can also be a
Stupid Piece Of Wood Wich Nobody Knows What It Is
Bah, have no idea.. :P
-
Looks like a medieval poop scooper to me ...
-
XpYtZ : you can give some information before these two weeks (whats important is that you wait after some player to try before helping)
-
Ah, I see. well since some people are playing and I am sure it\'s driving them crazy.
Think Archimedes :))
-
I\'m stumped!
Is it some kind of mechanical calculator?
Could you post a couple of pics from different angles?
Great thread, has given me a few laughs already :D
-
Is it a mechanical Odometer, by chance?
-
I think we need to pay more attention to the gear on top and that slot thing on the top right.
I have a feeling its a table for some game that also holds the peices.
-
a hydraulic elevator ?
-
hitancrias has won.
The Odomiter was created by Archimedes for the Roman Legion so they could properly carry out the Emperors order that \"all Roman roads be marked each mile with a stone of location and distance from Rome.\"
Here is a cookie.
The primal gear is attached to a weel and drives the larger gear clearly seen from the front with a \'single pin\' gear system. The long hand that Efflixi noticed (and some thought was related to a clock) uses the \'single pin\' method to drive the top gear. The final gear (on top) has a series of marbles set in it. When a marble falls you have traveled one mile. The total mileage can be calculated by \'counting your marbles\'.
:))
I bow out and turn it over to the next Clue Master
PS I would like to know if hitancrias was watching the same TV show I was.
History Channel much?
-
Nice one!
My turn!
I hope ill be able to explain you what\'s its goal...
I recognize this one isnt easy so I can answer to your question since the beginning
-
Yay! *munches the cookie*
No XpYtZ, I never watched that TV-channel, it\'s not on the cable where I live. I simply searched Wikipedia for Archimedes. I only knew the \'Eureka\'-story about him, so I was pleased to read he did much more. There I also found that he possibly invented the odometer. The description seemed to match the picture you gave. And a google immage search on odometer and archimedes brought up similar pictures. :)
*looks at fkens object*
Well it looks like a scientifical test setting of some kind. As you stated we could ask questions: Has it something to do with \'light\'?
-
is it some kind of laser-ey thingy?
-
not a laser but it has something to deals with light youre right hitancrias
-
Should we be able to read the Dymo label on that thing in the front?
If so, could you tell us what it says please?
Does it have a medical connection?
-
It looks like it has different prisms and redirections of the sort... Does it have anything to do with optics(ie in physics) or waves?
-
Is that device for measuring absorption of infra-red radiation in carbon dioxide atmosphere ? Or something like that ?
Non-portable alcometer ;) ?
Generally - a kind of spectrometer ?
-
By any chance is that the machine they teleported a single photon of light with? ?(
-
lol
hmmm guys you are far.
Yeah it\'s an optical machine (and yeah it has something to deals with light waves) ... Moreover I\'ll give you a little help :
This machine is the experience of a famous experience which... never success because (the inventor was american... hmmm I am kidding ! I am kidding !) what its inventor searched was totally wrong.
But this machine was very important because it revolutionned the humanity physic...
I think I help you too much... maybe I have destruct the fun ...
-
Is it an (of course fruitless) attempt to a perpetuum mobile? Or a device that should give so called \'free energy\'?
-
Michelson-Morley device ?
Does the text below describes it ? (found it here: http://encarta.msn.com/text_761579230__1/Light.html)In 1887 American physicists Albert A. Michelson and Edward Morley performed a very sensitive experiment designed to detect the effects of ether. They constructed an interferometer with two light beams: one that pointed along the direction of Earth\'s motion, and one that pointed in a direction perpendicular to Earth\'s motion. The beams were reflected by mirrors at the ends of their paths and returned to a common point where they could interfere. Along the first beam, the scientists expected Earth\'s motion to increase or decrease the beam\'s velocity so that the number of wave cycles throughout the path would be changed slightly relative to the second beam, resulting in a characteristic interference pattern. Knowing the velocity of Earth, it was possible to predict the change in the number of cycles and the resulting interference pattern that would be observed. The Michelson-Morley apparatus was fully capable of measuring it, but the scientists did not find the expected results.

Erm, normally I don\'t reply in those threads but, please...
Those that post the images should try to _rename_ them *cough* in order to keep the guessing fair...
Or this time the name isn\'t giving any information?
Still I think that they should be renamed to wazzaxx.jpeg or similar.
That said, enjoy the game.

AND THE WINNER IS : Wired_Crawler
Congratulation
Nilrem: Dont worry Schmilblick was a special name. In France there was that kind of game called the \"Schmilblick\". So dont worry.
That machine shows scientsts that the 19th century physic was wrong and that the Maxwell theories were right.

OMG! Wus Dat!(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v360/killerv/whose_got_da_moves.gif)

a primative sowing machine, or a shotgun.
-
is it one of those things for soing stuff to metal
ill giovre you the name later.
-
Its not for sewing anything good try though.
But it is a machine that we dont use anymore.
-
It\'s a piece of metal.

:P
-
If I told you either of those you would get it in like a split second...

lave is the word i was looking for, or lathe?
-
No drey, it doesnt sew stuff...
-
Is it a noodle press? (Not sure about the name exactly... but...)
-
Is it for putting detailing/engraving on sheet metal? :)
-
Its a phonograph. :)
Its an older made by edison when they didnt use records yet. I think it makes scratches on a metal peice that make sounds...
Basicly the first recording device made.

absurdly large drilling machine
-
/me throws tomatoes on Taser.
I\'d tell you if I knew :D:P
-
Okay, let\'s revive it then.
Robinmagnus, I think your picture shows a tunnel digging machine.
-
This is easy. Give me year, model, maker and pickup style ^^;
And guitarist out there should know this one!

63ish-65ish fender jaguar
oh and fender is teh suxorz
-
no, ur teh suxorz!
Not a jaguar ;)
-
63ish-65ish fender mustang
oh and fender is still teh suxorz
-
Still wrong.. mustangs were only in the 70\'s, and this is a 60\'s guitar
Edit: This guitar is very similar to the mustang, but the mustang resembles a telecaster more than this one!
