Title: A little Concerned about something
Post by: Nimfis Altmer on August 25, 2005, 07:47:43 am
Ok...Recently ive heard much talk about these new so called uber weapons that can make a char hit 250 with axes ect.....On the planeshift main website it says

\"The most interesting feature introduced is a new module for treasure generation. Until today all monsters had scripted loot, so you basically get a named set of items from them, with a random probability for each item to appear. The new system has a more powerful loot generator that can create thousands of different items, each with its own unique bonuses and maluses. The system is not yet complete , more controls on the generation are needed to avoid spawning too powerful items on low level monsters. This means that in the first run, you will get quite powerful items. Those will most probably be removed with a wipe of objects a few weeks after the first, when all controls will be present.\"

It says that the Loot system isnt complete....This being the case wouldnt using any of the looted items be considered an exploitation?? Because you are taking advantage of a system that is still in tweeking phases..I say this not to nag or complain....I myself have a 27.00 dmg broad sword witch was given to me as a gift...But i think that as more and more people continue to use this in-complete system as an exploitation....Many people will forget the true original purpose of gaining skills lvls and fighting strong using the weapons bought at shops...I think that if they exploit to much they might forget about that and when its time for the wipe. Theyl have hard times getting started again without it..Thanks for reading (if you did)

If you read this please respond with your opinion..I would rely appriciate what other peoples views on this matter are.

Since there will definitely be a wipe to take care of these weapons (and it would only make sense to get rid of the stat and skills gains that these weapons helped with), I\'d think there is nothing to worry about.

And i agree if it will last too long, people may forget how it was and can\'t get used to changes which will make them weak^^

This game is still being created and at the moment we are all simply testing the features the devs add. Right now we \'re testing uber weaponry and that will stay available until those in charge of the game decide to remove it. I don\'t doubt we \'ll lose all our items and most likely the progress we made. We \'ll probably lose it several times before this game is finished.

In the meanwhile it is up to us to determine the game\'s atmosphere, not the things that are being tested and put in.

I own several of those uber weapons but I have a few normal weapons as well which I use just as well. Since it is silly to slay a gobble or a rat with a weapon that does 120 damage I prefer using simple storebought weaponry for that.

You need only read the next part of the sentence for your answer.

\"This means that in the first run, you will get quite powerful items. Those will most probably be removed with a wipe of objects a few weeks after the first, when all controls will be present.\"

We aknowledge that you will be getting high powered items, and they will be removed. Thusly it isn\'t considered cheating for you to be using said items for the time being.

I must say thay i agree with Nimfis Altmer. Weapons are uber-like and people don\'t have to make groups to kill monsters. I saw a guy which hits for 500 dmg ( and in this place i want to say thank you to this guy becouse he helped me at the beggining ) he knows that i\'m talking about him ;). The next problem is magic vs. swords balance. We can\'t say balance becouse he doesn\'t exist. I hope devs will show the true power of magic skills in future releases. No more thing about magic: i red that magic dmg depends only on kind of spell and spell power. I think that Way Lev and Stat used for each way should count too.

I think that the loot weapons should be rely taken down on there power. I think that they should have other attributes like \"Hit cause 1 point of dmg over 10 secs\" or something similar..But i dont think that the weapons should be insanely powerful...Also these weapons hit 27\'s and 60\'s ect....But they sell at shops for less than a claymore does......Dont you think that if you were gonna have a massive powerful weapon thats stronger than all the oter it would sell atleast for 1k at shop....

About the magic. Im a magick user i think that the magick in this game is very well put together but i also think that they should impliment some healing spells for the next update, because all the current magick spells are just offencive and with healing it would open up the doors to much more interesting things... Again back to the sword thing. I think they should get rid of these or dumb them down a huge amounr because like mana said...People dont have any use for teams anymore and that was the best ( Or atleast my favorite) thing about this game.

We have three healing spells ready for the public already, and at least 20 other working spells that havn\'t been released. I\'m still at a loss as to why nobody will put the glyphs in the shops for everyone to buy. I\'d love to do it myself, but I don\'t have access to the database. If I did, they\'d be there in a heartbeat.

Three healing spells and twenty other spells!!! Ok, ok, calm down. Ok... Right. Talad, please, pretty pretty please add them to the database in 3.012 if they really are ready?

So there will be a wipe? Good, very good. Can I ask exactly what is going to be wiped? Items only or items and tria too?

Well, I saw all the .zip files in my client of different spell images and effects so I hope they are ready and will be implemented soon.

So, to summarize, the overpowered items will be removed as stated when the loot system is properly tweaked. Also, more spells exist in the game already, but there is as yet no way for players to obtain the glyphs (but hopefully, they will be available soon!). Did I miss anything? Even if I didn\'t, I\'m liking the sound of this.

I met darkmoon \\0/ ingame and he showed me and some freinds all the new spells..  :D Theyare awesome but he told us the only reason they aren\'t being put in yet is because they are still buggy. The dark way DR spray spell doesn\'t give you any damage and stuff like that..

Yeah, and we have a lot of graphic problems too, if you look from the windowless tower to where East Hydlaa is, you see this massive hole in the ground, among other things.

Which is not a graphics problem at all. It is the result of the maps being separate. Obviously East Hydlaa, the arena, etc. are on different maps. When you are in one map, you obviously cannot see into the other one, because that would require to have the other map loaded as well, defeating the purpose of splitting them up.
Now I think this will be a major problem when flight (most severely, pterosaurs) will be implemented) for which AFAICS there are only 2 solutions one better than the other.

Soluition one: Have the normal maps extended over the boundary in a very low detail version of the adjacent maps. This will suffice for the aerial view, but obviously make the maps bigger. Something like this is already done in the maps: things that have to be visible, like the temple, are in both maps. The temple is basically floating in the east hydlaa map. This is low detail in that it leaves out most other parts, whereas a low detail as in low resolution would have everything but mostly fuzzy.

Solution two: not load maps, but load areas. This way, you\'s set a horizon for loading, and beyond that no details are loaded. When you approach, details get dynamically unloaded and others loaded in the background. Flight, viewing and map transition could be made completely seamless using this, as you simply load parts of the adjacent map instead of the current one if it falls before the load horizon. However, this would dramatically increase CPU usage and would not be feasible yet.
