Title: Lag in Question
Post by: Nr4g3d on August 27, 2005, 03:41:17 am
Hello there. A few questions actually about how in the heck could I be lagging so badly?

Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002
Service pack 1  (service pack 2 makes my connection unstable)

Celeron CPU 2.40GHz
2.39 GHz
Memory/RAM:766MB/798MB

Video Card: Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics
Video Card Memory: 64.0 MB

Version of DIRECT X:9

My Laptop is Inspirion 1100, not too-too old and in tip-top shape.

CONNECTION: High-Speed/Broadband with Wireless connection 54.0 Mbps
Using Cicso Systems Linksys WPC54G Wireless  router and I am very close to the router..  My speed is.. hrm.. between 5mbps-24mbps and at freak-peaks it goes up to 40s.

Anything else you\'d need to know? I really don\'t know much more I can say, other than my fps shows from 0.1 to 20+.

I lag terribly! I\'ve played similar games, such as Anarchy Online and had similar problems and I hate not being able to enjoy this game to its full potential.

Thank you for your patience and assistance.

PS Client Version: Crystal Blue (Downloaded from site a few days ago)

Its your graphics card.
Ps might not look so great but it needs a all around good pc and a 64 mb graphic card wont cut it. :)

Mine works great and it only cost me 70 bucks. So there are good cheap cards out there if you want to play planeshift so bad.

I have a 16MB card in my laptop and it only gets choppy in the plaza.  It\'s likely to be a drivers issue.  According to Intel\'s site, the final version is 14.10.3.  (here\'s the link, btw (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=865&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21))  A few other things:

SP2 messes up your network access?  Odd, mine worked better with it.  That\'s Windows for you...  :P

What do you mean by \"Memory/RAM\"?  Where is this extra 32MB coming from?  \"Memory\" and \"Random Access Memory\" are sinonomous.  Where are you getting these numbers, then?

You have a Celeron, but I have a Pentium 4 in mine.  This can make a difference.  Hard to tell if it\'s the main one though.

Didnt notice he was on a laptop. Best thing to do then would be update your drivers.

Belive it or not the wireless connection might also be an issue. My friends comp is badass and it lags when he uses wifi with some games. If you can try using a normal modem and see if itll work.

Yep, wireless can be lossy.  Try checking packet loss.  If the results are bad, even when near the base station, look around for interference problems.

@ DaveG: I know what you mean. I dispise this wireless network. I have several times tried to make sure nothing could be interfering, wireless is just not made for gaming, I suppose? Memory/RAM.. huh I did put that down vaguely.. it\'s obvious I don\'t know much of what I am talking about huh? O well.. let\'s see. I meant the ACTUAL RAM  is the 798MB. The Memory 766MB is referring to my Direct X.. memory.. heh, if you get my drift. I read it under the dxdiag when I ran it in run.. and.. yea I have a Dell computer and they are with Celeron, HP with Pentiums. I would prefer Pentium over this, but how in the world would I be able to switch That?

@Efflixi Aduro: Yes, laptops do have their.. disadvantages, should I say. And as I said to DaveG, my laptop is amazing, and it is becoming clear to me that it is the wireless connection. I have just now upgraded my driver as needed. And actually, I am not at all too impressed with my graphics driver..

Ok I was on my character and headed on my way back to the wonderous sewers when I decided to make him fly/jump/run at the same time. At first it appeared I had landed him on a fence when suddenly my character kept on flying upward and upward.. any idea how the heck this could happen? I do have a screen shot of it but I don\'t know how to post it.. heh.[/font]
