After a day of lagging for a few hours on Planeshift, I close out the window and get a message about my Windows being low on virtual memory, and I remember seeing a post somewhere that it takes up more space whenever you run Planeshift...
So, does anyone know where I can get more memory before this thing...does something with no memory :P
-
What are the spec\'s on your machine? And what are your current virtual memory settings? (Control Panel->System, from there depends on the Windows version)
-
You might not match the minimum requirements for running Planeshift.
As said previously, can you provide your system specifications?
-
Better way: More ram.
Windows way: Assign HD drive space to use it as virtual memory -> Low performance.

how long had you been playing for... how many clients open how... that stuff.
like nilrem says, more RAM is the best way to go
i get it sometimes after iv had two clients open for a few hours but then i only have 512MB ram...
-
Yes if you start playing PS with Virtual Memory you might as well close the client and dump your ram, \'cause you\'ll be running at 0.2 FPS inside the arena, .5 inside the plaza.
I have 512mb of ram (Well actually I only have 480 some MB wien I check dxdiag.exe, don\'t know where the rest went. ) but I have \"Keep maps loaded\" on and after about 6 maps I have to restart my client, it runs at an avarage of 0.0 fps. :P
-
Neryam that same thing happens to me, I have the keep maps loaded option, but mine bumps along on 0.2 FPS after about 4 maps...:P
And don\'t even ask me about specs, it was hard enough figuring out I had low VM, as I\'ve always told people, I\'m not good with technical stuff :/

When all maps are loaded, PS takes up between 700 and 960 MB of RAM, depending on which map you actually are in. Therefore, 512 MB of RAM will make for a lot of swapping with either load all maps or keep maps loaded, because windows itself also eats up 100 - 200 MB.
What may have happened, though, is that you ran out of harddisk space so that windows couldn\'t allocate more VM. In this case, the possible culprit maybe psclient.txt, which grew insanely large before the recent update. Deleting it will free up diskspace and enable you to upload dumps.

This is almost certainly a memory leak symptom. (A memory leak, is when something isn\'t unloaded fully when it isn\'t used anymore; these little \"leaks\" can eventually pile up.) The lower your RAM and VM size, and the longer you have the game open, the more likely you are to get it. The only solution I know of is to close your client, and terminate the bloated carcass of this supposedly \"closed\" client, if needed. (hit ctrl+shift+esc and kill the psclient.exe process) Restart the game, and it should be back to normal.
I have had this happen to me many a time. The only way to prevent it is to restart the client every so often. (These bugs will get fixed... eventually...)
Also, check your VM file size and make sure it\'s at least 500MB or so.

Ah, that helps everyone, thanks. Now I think I know what to do :)
