Title: Rangers of Yliakum - Recruiting - See recruitment details
Post by: Farren Kutter on September 03, 2005, 08:59:54 pm
Ok, I am not yet going to make the history and all that stuff. I will name more like my goals and ranks and maybe a bit of the structure, as well as the requirements I have set for my guild membership.

Goal: I aim for my guild\'s goal to be the helping of others and being kind, as well as helping noobs train and such with the use of groups. We will teach them to fight, and the stronger ones at first might even take the hits of stronger monsters while the noobs hack away safely. I know this plan isn\'t exactly foolproof, but nothing is, because there is always some fool who will mess it up for everyone. I also want my guild to be a giving guild and help out people, especially within it\'s own ranks. I will probably expand on my goals in the future.

Ranks:
1- Beginner
2- Ranger Student
3- Ranger Trainee
4- Ranger Apprentice
5- Ranger
6- Intermediate Ranger
7- Expert Ranger
8- Accomplished Ranger
9- Master Ranger

The highest rank attainable will be \'Accomplished Ranger\'. The structure of promotion will be based mainly on accomplishment and recommendation. If someone does something truly nice, and doesn\'t seem to be doing it just to get promoted, then I will promoted them, or put them on their way to promotion. I will use the point system to keep track of their accomplishments and they will restart at promotion.

Recruitment Requirements:
I don\'t ask for much. I ask that my members be polite, kind, and helpful to others. If someone randomly gets mad at you or gets mad at you for some reason, I expect you to try and solve the problem calmly, whether they are calm or not. You must stay calm and kind and admit to your mistakes. If I recieve word of someone doing something wrong, they will immediately be demoted based on the complaint. I have a good enough ability to tell if something is a false accusation or if it is being dramaticized. I am currently recruiting non-noobs to be my helpers for when I start to actually get members. All members must promise to the terms of membership, and uphold that promise as best they can.

Rank Structure:
The higher the rank, the more influence. If an Accomplished Ranger suggests something to me, I will think about it carefully. If a Beginner suggests something I will give them an answer right then and there most likely. This is all based on the relativity of the question to guild matters. Higher ranking members also may have more responsibility. It is a bit flexible at the moment, seeing as it is a very new guild.

Don\'t start going off about my faults, I know many of them quite well, with all the stuff not being there.... Just hold off til I actually get my guild set up, then start arguing over it. I would rather like to settle into a house before I start to fix it up and modify it...

Woah.... talk about taking a double glance at this name.

It\'s good to see another go at this idea, I wish you the best of luck!

Thx.

Edit: Wait, does someone have a guild like this? If so I will change mine up a bit, because I don\'t mean to copy anyone.

Indeed, there have been / are Rangers of Yliakum in Planeshift, though I am not sure if they are still \"active\" or have disbanded.

Thread (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=17872&boardid=18&styleid=4).

Crap.... Could you find out for me? I really don\'t want to rework my stuff...

masoj here.

Farren, they must have been disbanded because:
I have not seen them since the big wipe, and you cannot create 2 guilds with the same name.  They must not exist anymore so don\'t worry about it.

From that thread, it appears as though the guild has indeed been disbanded (two months ago?), but the Rangers had such an RP presence in PlaneShift that I would feel iffy about trying to \"bring it back\" without any of the former members. But that\'s just me :)

I think currently, what you have listed really pulls down the previous standards the Rangers have set for themselves. It was an RP guild, while you have no mention of RP anywhere and instead freely use words like \"noob\" and \"hit points.\"

Also, I question the wisdom of your decision to make a thread before all the information is ready for criticism and review by forum members.

I made the thread more to get members and to be there and partly done when I actually do have the rest of the stuff.

The Rangers Guild was disbanded my Monketh a while ago..  But I think if you can find Monketh or any of the other former members, they would probably want to join.  They felt, and the whole community as well, really strongly for their guild.

Also, I agree about the Rokeplaying aspct that Karyuu mentioned.

I will try. I would like to have as many good-natured players as possible, especially those old guild members. I would be honored by their presence if they wished to join the new Ranger guild.

And I will work on it like i said

1. The RG was disbanded, period.
2. A quite promising guild tried to continue the ideas - the one in the link, by Kiramon.
3. What does your guild have with rangers except for the names?  X(

Levski is alive!  :D

Have I not said that I am working on it and will be changing a lot of stuff? Did you read the post thoroughly? I am trying to get settled before I make the guild the way I want it. I am an old message board RPer, and I made many of my own RPs, so I know what I am doing. This is why I said hold off the cricism until AFTER I have settled in. It isn\'t too much to ask for.... I will try to reshape my guild into a roleplaying guild soon enough. Just be patient.

Edit: An update on the rank thing..... Expert Ranger will be the highest rank attainable, for I have made Accomplished my second in command, and already have one who seems to like the idea of being kind, helpful, and giving. We started saving up some weapons yesterday for noobs and people who need good weps.

Ok, you may join. Next time you see me or Sheridan ingame, just ask to join, k? Just tell Sheridan I said you could join.
I need a few more new players anyway.... New to the game that is.... My members need someone to help train.

May I suggest looking into creating a rudimentary website and forum system? Applications would be easier to handle that way, as well as lists of members ;)

So much confusion in this thread... Some mention the old \"Rangers Guild\", whilst it is the former \"Rangers of Yliakum\" guild the issue here, no? :P
We really have too much rangers around here...
Oh well, I wish you more luck than your precursors :)

Ah yes the website.... It is still under construction but it is basically up, with some things I am working on in my spare time, and the Part for joining isn\'t completely ready, so just post that you wanna join, plus your experience with the game. The address is s13.invisionfree.com/rangers_of_yliakum/index.php.

To avoid further confusion, I suggest you do something with the guild\'s name, even if the former Rangers of Yliakum have disbanded. I would also recommend refining the idea a bit more, because now there\'s not much that makes you a _ranger_ guild. Anyway, as an ex-member of the former Rangers of Yliakum, I wish you luck.

Well I am honored to have your advice. ATM I am putting the guild under construction and have secretized it, only inviting members whom I think can help make it a better guild. It would be a little easier to do our jobs if the monster system was a bit different, like them spawning random spots with certain types in certain areas, etc. and also having certain ones chase you within certain distances of them and they stop if you get too far away, and also you don\'t need to be grouped for more than one person to attack the same one.... That way we could search for people running from a horde of monsters and help them.... But PS is its own game, so I will have to find a new way for it to work.... Which is why for now we help noobs, though ATM I have to refer them to my one of my two co-leaders, one of which will not be on very much due to a promise he made that I will not say to keep his privacy, and the other seems to get on when I am not on, so I don\'t know... Often I will refer them to someone of Guild Knights if I cannot help them myself, or maybe to someone of Klyros of Fury... I just have stuff I have to do, so I am working on it when I can. I will probably change the name when I can think of a better one. I would like to invite you, Von Harskiburg, to join my guild if you wish, but I will take no offense if you decline or already have a guild. I could use an advisor to help me make some of my decisions. Thanks for posting here.

Edit: Eh, spelled construction as contrustion....

I am honored by your offer, but I am currently a member of Legends of Amicitia. Of course, you can always ask advice from me by PMs, I\'d be glad to help. Just remember that it\'s your guild, not mine, so I\'m not going to do the whole thing for you.

I understand, and would not ask you to do the whole thing for me. I will call upon you if I need to, but otherwise I will leave you be. Once again, thank you.

P.S. This thread is quite old isnt it? XD

Like I said, it is a bit slow moving right now. I am thinking of ideas... It would be easier if there wasn\'t a one person attacking at a time thing and monsters actually started to chase you and randomly spawning within certain areas... Then we could at least help people we see running from a hoarde of trepors and such... heh, that would be fun... Ah well, Planeshift has its own system and I will have to find a way to work upon that... The site? might as well ask me questions directly, the site is screwy... I hate phpBB boards and will probably switch over to Avid Gamers soon. I am good with those sites... Thanks for posting though.. After the wipe it will probably take me forever to come up with the money and members to restart the guild, but I will try my hardest. I tried changing the name of the guild since people were complaining and such about us being a Rangers guild, but many of my friends flamed me for it and stuff and Champions of Light sounded a bit dumb to me... Switched back to Rangers of Yliakum by popular demand of my friends. I am thinking of using my points in another way as well. I will probably start using them for something that other guilds probably do, but I like the idea and never really witnessed anything saying a guild used it. I will maybe post in the MOTD certain quests worth points, missions and such. The points will add up and once someone gets to a hundred, they will be promoted. This is in effect only for those above the rank of apprentice. Anyone above the rank of apprentice knows the basic knowledge of playing the game. They know how to fight, loot, sell, buy, train, etc. They might not know everything, but they know the basics. Lesser Rangers are those who know the basics but are still prone to quite a few questions. Someone who is quite knowledgeable in the ways of the game will be Rangers. From there up, you must earn the points and such to gain ranks, and each rank gives more authority. I am still working on it, but this structure requires dedication from the members. It is like JROTC at school. If someone of a higher rank tells you to drop, you don\'t truly HAVE to, not even if the Colonel tells us to. If you are disobedient, you will be kicked out of the program. I myself and dedicated and drop. I ask for my members to be dedicated. That is why I am being picky about who I recruit. I want good people right now who will be dedicated enough to do as their superiors ask as long as it isn\'t against their better judgement. If Kallis were to ask someone to go kill a noob who is minding their own business not bothering anyone, I expect that person to refuse and complain to me about what he was asked. I want respect and discipline in my ranks or the guild will not be as it should be. Eh, seems like I\'m trying to create a military unit in PS, lol.

Hmmm.... At least people aren\'t arguing about my guild being called Rangers anymore...
