I must say the the file-updateing takes too much time, the downloading cost me only 15 min but the upate is already taking 45 min now at (53%)! Maybe its a good idea to keep al the updates for the next game version, that the update only exists out of bugs updates...
Don\'t blame me for haveing something wrong... I\'m dieing to play this game but its taking to long! (It isn\'t my Net connection)

This is because you download a whole bunch of zips/art files that are small and the Updater is inefficient. So you end up downloading at 1kb/sec through that entire long list of cheese curds. I know, happend to me too :(

Maybe it\'s a good idea to put everything in 1 zip and the different zips (what we have now) in maps so u don\'t have to unpack those, that would maybe save some time...
-
As they are compressed already, why not just tar them, should be somewhat faster than zipping them twice ... (I know Windows users will kill me for this idea ...)

Well, the updating system could do with some work, but I wouldn\'t even know the first place to start, so I can\'t very well blame others :P
Basically, it\'s slow because right now there is only one source, the game server, and to save on cpu time it is just a \"dumb host\". It\'s actually just a website that the updater uses Curl to download off of. So it can\'t very well zip files just for you. There might be some point in zipping all the files for a big update, so that if you have a wrong version it downloads swatches of files at a time, but that would be one of many possiblities being considered. Everything would have to balanced for bandwidth and CPU time, and user time.

8o Was just about to post a new topic on this.
*Waits for pats on the back for actually using the search function* ;) :P
I\'m glad to see I wasn\'t the only one of that opinion. I agree, even though I understand the fact that they would like you to only download the bits of zip files that have actually been updated then resync the file rather than dl the whole thing including parts that may be unchanged, the difference in speed is so signigicant, it would be better with few large files than lots of small ones. A few updates ago, for example, there were updates for several areas, the first came in bits and pieces and took forever. The next few areas came in big *whole* zip files and it took only a minute or two even though they were very big. I would say zip sections of the update together or have it download all in one file rather than having all these tiny files.
Of course I say this as my current update is at 45min and counting and only 15% done. ;(
