during update
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/a0X5uU29.html
and later
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/jFm5ZZ56.html
for installing i used :
sh PlaneShift_CBV0.3.011.linux.x86-2.run
maybe i have not some requierement, but I don\'t know....
this have to be important
************************************************************************
Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2
Indirect rendering may indicate a flawed OpenGL setup if you run on a local
X server.
************************************************************************
But here I don\'t know what to do neither. I had already this error when i had tried to install wine and then running a game called Morrowind...
But as far I can see
, I have it...
*************************************************************************
[[user@Olympe ~]$ ls /usr/X11R6/lib/ | grep libGL.so.1.2
libGL.so.1.2*
[user@Olympe ~]$

I first tried to install by \"Easy way to install Planeshift\" ....
OS : Mandriva limited edition 2005 (Kernel Linux 2.6.11.6 )
No enviroment variables set such like $CEL, $CRYSTAL, $CSCONFPATH ....
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
NV11 Geforce2 MX/MX 400
NVIDIA GeForce2 DDR (generic)

Type glxinfo | grep direct and paste output here.
Regards.

[user@Olympe ~/planeshift]$ glxinfo | grep direct
Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2
direct rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
[user@Olympe ~/planeshift]$
Thanks
In fact my probleme is not related to Planeshift.... The installtion is fine and I can launch all (client/setup/updater) but I use indirect rendering... (But I don\'t know if that can explain all loading errors)
I forgot to say that, but it is obvious (almost), i am running on local. That is why direct rendering should be a possibility...
I will try to lower depth color for my Mandriva and see what is going on.
This thread should be in technical help?
-
Planeshift will most likely NOT run without direct rendering, trying is futile, even
if you manage it to run you will get 2 FPS and you will be unable to move..
sucks I would say, unless you are going to Role Play a statue...
Too bad that these crappy RPM \"user friendly\" distros didn\'t realized yet
existence of http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html. ;(
Regards.
-
I tried to lower in order to use direct rendering but now mandriva only start in terminal mode....
The link you have posted, should provide me the good driver? So I will try to try...
(I always trusted my Mandriva ...)
Edit : mandriva\'s problems resolved
-
You have installed Nvidia\'s driver and you have direct rendering now?
I think I will write a HOWTO for poor RPM distros users...
Regards.

The good news :
*******************************************************
[user@Olympe ~/planeshift]$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes
[user@Olympe ~/planeshift]$
******************************************************
It doesn\'t lag anymore. I run the game in 800*600.
The bad one : I have always errors....
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/m0i0Nx41.html
Most are about images and textures. Error when opening image on VFS, loading texture and \"Not a JPEG file: starts with 0x00 0x00\".
The setup seems to have also a problem :
************************************************************************
planeshift.setup.application:
Application initialized successfully.
Error saving configuration \'\'.
*************************************************************************
And I got red errors
************************************************************************

and later

About writing a HOWTO, it is a good idea not because what the gamer have to do is dificult (it is easy and simple), but because he may not understand what he have to.
The NVIDIA\'s readme is not really a readme, more a bible. And their *.run are also great. (searching precompiled kernel, downloading if not found, compiling if no \"adapted\" kernel was found)
Maybe a written test (even a FAQ but it doesn\'t like there is a lot of \"persistent\" problems), like :
Having lag ?
Type glxinfo | grep direct and paste output here.
if you have indirect rendering then
if not ...
Thanks for your patience

If client runs, doesn\'t bother about these warnings, and if doesn\'t then try upgrading your libjpeg.
Regards.

Fine.
Thanks

Probably a good idea considering there\'s a lot of us \"poor\" RPM distro users. ;)
Though I have to say, knowing that NVidia is working in-house to provide their own closed-source driver for Linux, I never assumed to be able to run my card hardware-enabled with anything but the NVidia drivers (and for me they weren\'t ever really stable until the 7664 driver came out). I suppose most linux-newbies don\'t really think about this, though. :(
