Title: Lighting Suggestion
Post by: isfacat on October 29, 2002, 07:42:16 pm
Even though it\'s only a techdemo right now, how about adding lighting based on the server\'s location...

Yanno... kinda like a day/night thing?  Some places are only open at night/morning.....  it would make it a little more entertaining.

Hmm...
Well the whole city is underground and the light of the \"Blue Sun\" is nearly constant. Add to that that the energy emitted keeps its citizens from requiring sleep and you don\'t really have a  day/night setting.

But I still like the idea though and each level/race could have different structure for each \"day\".  Some could center on religion , others on work and the like.

Plus proximity to the crystal could affect the city in ways besides light, like buildings and items that were created closer to the crystal could be stronger and have various magical qualities related to the crystal?

What do you think?

That\'s pretty good..... but then we would have guilds trying to add their building as close to the crystal as they could.  I think it may cause a little bit of levelslutting for some people.  But then again, Hey!  It\'s an MMORPG, so some people are allowed to levelslut :)

Well in the case of guilds perhaps they would haev to negate that idea for the halls to prevent issues like that. Or they could provide a way for guilds to earn prime real estate by deeds and quests :)

Well I think it\'s been proved time and again that no matter what measure are in place , people will always find a way to \"levelslut\". Your right though,we certainly don\'t want it to be easy for them!

There is definitely a day/night cycle in Yliakum.

Be afraid.  Be very afraid...

Aha! I figured out where I got it crossed.

The flash presentation on the site intro says the light is almost constant, the citizens are irradiated and dont need sleep so there are no subdivisions such as \"day\" and \"night\". Its in about the 4th paragraph.

BUT then if you look on the site under \"Setting\" and pick \"Overview\" the paragraph under \"Measuring Time\" says
Quote
The Crystal draws its light from the surface and thus Yliakum is subjected to times of \"day\" and \"night\". However even while at night, it is not completely dark.

It also says hours are measured by the level of the lake.

Kinda contradictory no?

Yes, there are contradictions in the background information. And the dev team is aware of that, so they will be making the necessary changes so that people don\'t get confused over this kind of things.

Basically this happens because the website is still based on old info dating 2+ years, and has not been updated with the actual, totally coherent, setting docs.
Expect fixes/updates in the future.
