Title: A question for the australians...
Post by: RussianVodka on September 10, 2005, 03:50:23 am
Well... Everyone knows that the weather in Australia is the opposite of what it is in the northern hemesphere, as the wise-man Homer once exclaimed \"So hot snow fall up?\".

Well.. Here comes my half-dimwhited question...

In Australia, what are the \"summer\" months, and what are the \"winter months\". I mean, is summer and winter still have the same order as they do in the north?

This is prety hard... I guess the easies way to ask would be \"Does it snow during what you call summer, or durring what you call winter?\".

Yes, summer vacation is in ... well summer.  December, January and Feburary.  Our seasons are just the opposite to yours: When Its summer here, its winter there, and visa versa.  Winter months here are June, July and August.  Or around that time anyway.  You notice winter less in Australia because its overall very hot here in most places, so most places never get snowfall.  Even in winter some places get average temperatures of 15-20 Degrees celcius.
The answer to your \"easy\" question would be: It doesnt snow at all :P.  But if it does, its during what we call winter, I.E your summer months.

yah we have christmas in the sun. summer + christmas = fun beach and pool parties for christmas :P. meanwhile you northern hemisphere peoples have winter at christmas, haha. anyway if it is winter at summer in northern hemishpere and they have father christmas and the north pole, what do we have here? like most of Australia doesn\'t receive snow, for example, ME!. i\'ve never even touched snow before, well i\'ve been shut in a freezer but that\'s differant :D.

lol !

ok last christmas it was soo f*ucking hot.

im serious the cheese on the patter was sweating lol !(that sounds suss lol)

at the moment im wearing shorts and a singlet and its just 12 days after winter lol !  with blue sky.

then after christmas (boxing day) me and my mates got off it with a little alchomahole.  also walking on the roads is imposible. one day i was walking barefoot, and my friends had thongs (the shoes, not underwear) and it was imposible to walk on the road, litterally burning my feet.

and the pool always helps :D.  every year im in the pool for most of the day. some people go to the beach.  its cool cause all the days around christmas are in the pool as well.

in my house we dont eat hot foods or a roast dinner.  we have a barbieque with salads usually. and just cold foods or sea food.

oh and we dont have \'summer vacation\', we have christmas holidays and other random holidays which im on a 2 week one now :D.

we usually get long droughts in winter, like 2 winters ago we got red dust haning around in the atmosphere.  this winter it actually rained and ended the summer drought and filled the dam back up :S

and like verideon, i have never seen snow :S

russian vodka: when youse have your summer we have our winter, which is like your summer anyways.  christmas time (something we can relate to) is in december and like summer, but it starts to get even hotter around january february the next year laso christmas is at the end of the year (we finish school then as well).

what is snow like actually ? people tell me its like crushed ice..

sorry for my long post, im just so sick of hearing american stuff on here (dont forget all the g.bush crap).  so its not often i can talk about my own country for once.

yeh it can burn your feet bad (road is black nuh der) but that only in like december and january, atm it is september here in spring time, pretty hot (not too hot) well for england it would be hot as (form what i\'ve heard) we get the pool all the time in australia , overall australia kicks ass really, we still get snow in certain areas though darwin and stuff is real hot and tasmania can be pretty cold but queensland is the way to go

Dammit, you were lucky, If we scored 4 more runs in the second test we would have kicked your asses.  And if McGrath didnt get injured, and If it wasnt for your stupid weather.  If any one of those had gone in our favor instead of yours, we\'d still have it.  Oh well.  Not as if the current team hasnt acheived enough already (Winning 2 World Cups, 18 Years Ashes, Winning tours against every test playing nation, New Record for Most test won in a row, Highest Wicket taker ever etc), so it had to come to an end eventually.  We\'ll look forward to winning it back in 2 years when theres no weather to conspire against us.

I have no idea what ashes is, but I know what snow is.  Snow is like rain only colder :)  What I mean is that not all snow is the same.  There is slush, it is like a crushed ice drink thrown on the ground.  There is old snow, it is like the stuff in a non defrosted frezer.  New wet snow, it is very white, sticks together like mud and is heavy.  New dry snow, it is lighter does not skick together and you can not stand on top of it.  Then there is packed powder (snow compressed by snow groming equipment) it is solid and fluffy at the same time.

Tasmanian seasons are completly different to the rst of Australia, well except for the names.

I.E When its summer, its incredibly hot one day (for Tas), and pelting with rain the next.

Those meteorologists really need to get their seasons right.

Here in Victoria it\'s spring (I think) and a relatively cool day (at least in this bit of it). In winter we et rain and cold days (about cold 5-20 warm degres C), in summer we get heat and hot days (cool 20-40 hot). There are a few mountians and things where it snows.

Does that help?
