Title: Efflixi's lil' ol' project.
Post by: Efflixi Aduro on September 10, 2005, 07:43:11 am
Well out of being bored I\'ve been looking to do somthing that will contribute to the ps community. So, I\'m making a video of ingame footage, a trailor of some sorts. So this is totally new to me and I have no idea what I\'m doing but I\'m ready to learn. I\'m in no rush and I\'m ready to take this on even if it takes me months.

So my first step is making a list of stuff I\'ll need.

1) Video capture software. Need one asap! Good quality and free pls. :)
2) A program that will let me SIMPLY edit video clips I get from gamecam. I want to cut out parts I don\'t want and stick 2 parts togeather etc.
3) A program to let me stick music in the video.
4) A program to make the video compatable with a popular player. Im thinking wmp, quicktime, or divx. (help me chose :()
5)Extras but those are later. :)

I have #1 but I still need 2, 3, and 4 before I can actually start so if anyone can point me to the direction of  programs like those I\'d be most thankful.
So if anyone with more experiance can help me get all the stuff I need I\'ll (try to) do the rest. :)

Wish me luck people, if this comes out as planned it should be great. :)

*sigh* gamecam doesnt work with ps...
I\'ll find a new program later I need some sleep...

I imagine you don\'t want to be forking out any cash for this project (I am quessing you are on a PC)...so, if you can get your hands on a Mac, you will have all the software you need for this, and its free!

Application/program ? iMovie/HD

? iMovie/HD ? very user friendly editing software.
? iTunes is integrated into the iMovie application, so adding a soundtrack/score is no problem.
? You can export/share straight from iMovie into Quicktime (recommended).

what format does the gamecam \'take\'?

I haven\'t done any ingame footage type stuff, but am familiar with the apps I mentioned and will help out with anything I can.

I hope this is some help. :)

Why not just use Windows Movie Maker?  It comes with any version of Windows XP (and probablly earlier versions.. i dunno).  It lets you load, cut and edit footage pretty easily and simply, and you can add audio over the top of it.  And It exports to .wmv files, which are playable by anyone with Windows Media Player.  It might not be the fanciest program around, but from what you\'ve said, it should do fine.

FOrget all that!,

If your running windows, your machine has \"Windows Movie Maker\"

Capability for titles, credits, special effects, clip cutting, editing, music, etc

Edit: didnt read the post above me. lol   Listen to him

My all time favorite for this sort of thing is WinProducer... It\'s pretty old and nothing like all the advenced stuff from serious companies, but that counts as an advantage ;)

I got a hold of some advenced video editing software and really hated it. Had some neat functions that I would never use, and lacked some stuff that I frequently use in video editing.

I don\'t know how you could get WinProducer, other than me sending it to you (just 35 MB I think), so if you\'d like that, just PM me.
I guess my works are enough to show (basic, true - but that means fast in use) possibilities of WinProducer. If you didn\'t see them, you might ask for links too :P

Edit: Oh yeah, it also has some nice encoding possibilities so... again, me liketh ;)

A personal request for a non closed format like mpeg rather than wmv or quick time for those of us who run linux not windows/mac osX, and there does seem to be a lot of us here :)

I did a google search for video capture software, and there are hundreds.. I suppose the challenge is to find a free one that you can use without any Drawbacks.  I tried two Different pieces of software, but both of them came with a small \"unregistered verion of blah blah blah\" in the top left hand cornor.

EDIT*

Wait, didnt you say

Music wise I\'m stuck between a few songs. The main one being Love comes again- DJ Tiesto. The only problem with that ssong is that its 6 mins long. O_o

So cut it down :P

Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is a good choice for fiddling with sound.

The problem is I don\'t want to cut it down very much. =/
There\'s another song I have that could do but it\'s a little too dramatic for a trailor lol.

DJ Tiesto? Doesn\'t sound really epic or like anything fitting Planeshift... :P
But I suppose you know what you\'re doing anyway ;)

Myself, I would probably use any of these (http://s48.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=23R6VDKIFHZJM22DEZLSBUSRS9) songs...
Most likely \"Forsvinn Du Som Lyser\". Hey, tell me it doesn\'t fit our current ingame community ;)

I got my hands on a working copy of fraps. :)
It works perfectly with ps so all I need to do now is find the right song and start shooting. :)

I actually made a ps trailer in the last 2 days , i used hyper cam and windows movie maker . it turned out great and i\'m still editing alot of it . If you need the basic editing i suggest movie maker , if you want to record stuff i suggest Fraps or Hypercam . Then when your ready recording and editing compress the video by using VirtualDub.

I could recommend some music if you would tell me what content you are planning on having in the video. I really dont think DJ Tiesto would fit in that well.
Personally I think that Lacuna Coil would fit better.
try looking for...
Swamped
Daylight Dancer
Self Deception

Syzerian I tried the Lacuna Coil music but I\'m not looking for anything rock-y. I might use a moby song.
