Title: Planeshift MUD
Post by: sesmi on September 11, 2005, 12:35:24 am
Why Wasn\'t finish it? No power-leverers, no newbies, just RPers. Plus I like MUDs.

This is what it looked like:

wouldn\'t work with most MUD clients, wich would be a pain, but it still looks awsome.

Think about what we\'d have:

Farther in development.
Less idiots and trolls.
Eaiser to play.
Less bugs.

It failed because it had problems with publishing, as it was commercial. When it got restarted a few years later as a opensource project it was decided that a 3d environment would be better... and here we are. :)

And no somewhat advanced OpenSource 3d MMORPG.
If we would make PS a completely text-based MUD, the development would be even more completed, and there would be almost no bugs!

Seriously... I much prefer the current version.

If PS remained a 2D MUD, then it wouldn\'t have much chances of success when it comes to gathering role-players anyway. There are MUDs around that roam around perfection, both in system and in role-playing environment. And as we all know, for the most part MUDs are rather free to play anyway...

Then why can\'t we play it right now. :(
I\'d love to try out a complete version of ps even if it\'s a mud...
Title: Laanx = Mauro Zanetti?
Post by: Bnm85 on March 11, 2006, 08:38:11 pm
Speaking of the PlaneShift \"roots\", there was a mention somewhere that \"Laanx\" is a \"real person\". Looking at the old PlaneShift MUD page and doing a little research, it seems \"Laanx\" is, in fact Mauro Zanetti. His old e-mail at the MUD page contains \"Laanx\" in it, and I also found this:

Space Cadet Laanx (http://www.echocluster.com/players/accounts/p83.php4)

Looks like his old profile.

Also, this is from the PS page:

\"...Mauro wrote the basics of the underground world, detailing the races and the places you can still find today in PlaneShift 3D.\"

So... Mauro wrote the original setting for PlaneShift and called himself \"Laanx\", which, according to the setting is female-turned-male \"god\". Meanwhile, Luca decided to call himself \"Talad\", which is another \"god\" in PS universe.

Hmm, interesting...

Funnily enough, using Google, I found someone named Luca Zanetti, who calls himself \"Zeus\".  :D

Just an observation...  8)

please don\'t bump old threads.

..Bumping threads is fine if there is actually new and interesting information to share instead of posting something like \"That totally rocks\" or \"Neat thread.\"

So thanks for the post, Bnm85 ;)

Luca Zanetti ?

oddly enough I am in communications with a person from italy named Luca Zanetti regarding a weird ebay auction and a harmonic mpeg2 encoder.  talad has a different name for sure right - its not Luca Zanetti?   Funnier still is that this thread would pop up with that name in it right when I am emailing this guy hehe.

Talad\'s name is Luca Pancallo :> Interesting and weird little semi-coincidences.
Title: vodul
Post by: Gripen on March 13, 2006, 03:12:57 am
Anyone care to dig deep enough to find the person behind Vodul?

Many little things there--no doubt.  ;)

And here I was thinking Laanx was the server, Talad was (wtb) programmer working with the server, and Vodul was Fragnetics connecting them to the crystal, which is the internet.  Talad not really knowing what he was doing crashed Laanx severely with the creation of the Kran, got so frustrated he busted up the Laanx hardware in anger. (You all know how programmers have rocky marriages with their servers.)  Oh, and the Black Flame was a graphics bug that turned things black as if they were completely charred.

But then, me being a ghost-weaver of tales, I can\'t even lie anymore without telling the truth.

[Looks like an awesome mud]
