Title: Stop playing with the weather!
Post by: LigH on September 12, 2005, 08:33:04 pm
Since you played with the weather today (making it raining, foggy, and even red inside the tavern), I cannot enter the tavern anymore! Everytime I try to enter, PlaneShift crashes.

Furthermore, while raining, my framerate goes down to 2..5 fps. I hope I can switch off at least the raindrops in a next release (fog won\'t hurt that much, from my experience).

Today it seems they\'re testing the fog; there\'s much more than the other day.
I too crash when entering the tavern, and have low fps near it, imo it can be related with those blinking dark boxes. The other day, less foggy, when I trespassed those boxes, the fog dissapeared completely, so I guess there\'s some collision between them.
If you can manage to reach the plaza (by double unsticking or by being teleported by a GM) you\'ll enjoy the less laggy plaza I\'ve ever seen, since the fog sorrounds you so much, that the client almost has to render your own char only, and that, if not in 1st person mode ;)

EDIT: Lordbug adds that those crashes happen whenever trying to load a new sector. There\'s clearly some incompatibility between foggy zones, and not foggy ones.

This is why it\'s a pre-alpha... ;) Things are being tested.

Um... friendly suggestion:

Don\'t test the stuff known to cause lag, while the server is suffering as it has been recently.  :P  Though, it\'d be cool to see a mob of players with pitchforks, roaming through the fog... at 1 FPS...  :D
