Ok, yes I make a lot of threads like this, and I\'ll keep making them ;)
Every time I\'m at the magic shop, Oja Road, or the Plaza, theres someone ALWAYS casting flame burst, and I crash every time...They should know by all of the posts on the forums, the bugtracking site, and complaints from ingame characters that it causes crashes, and it probably crashes the caster too...So why do they keep doing it?
You guessed it. People are idiots ;P
EDIT: Anyone wondering where this came from, I just crashed the moment I entered the hyoja02 sector, and saw someone casting flame burst on a rogue...obviously crashing
-
Obviously noone does that on purpose.
I suggest you try to note the players name, add it to your buddy list, at least temporarily, and when he/she relogs, tell him/her that the cause of the crash was the flame burst spell.
I mean, the game can be boring, yes; but crashing oneself system isn\'t very distracting.
-
Good job, you\'ve contributed to the useless posts on the forums. The amount of irony is amazing.
-
Funny, I have heard this spell may cause crashes, but it never happened to me.
I saw loads of people casting it. I did it myself and no crash.
Another thing is summon missile seams to be more effective, so i dont use flame burst.
Also i agree people are both stupid and are idiots, what make you Suno stupid idiot too =P
-
Just a stupid/idiot on the forums ;P
-
flame burst is the most powerful spell for now so it makes sense that people cast it... though it only ever crashes for me when i use it(and even then it doesnt crash too much). not when others use it...
-
Yes, everyone is stupid, I\'m stupid, you are stupid talad is... well, I can\'t say that :P
This is actually a very good example of how everyone can cause problems for thoers without realizing it- you have a bug that makes you crash when you see flameburst, but they have no way of knowing. Lots of things are like that in real life, but you never even see them till it\'s too late and you are the one suffering from it.
As for this bug, I don\'t think I\'ve had it- But then again, there have been random crashes when anything could have caused it. Since it\'s very hard to reproduce, it\'s even harder to fix, I\'m afraid. Too bad there is not an option to turn off effects....
-
I don\'t think its the effects, its just this spell itself...All the other spells when they hit, they don\'t make an impact effect, just hit and then disappear (Like magic arrow, it hits them but doesn\'t make an impact effect) and with Flame Burst, when it hits, the sparks fly everywhere, so it must be a defect in the impact part of the spell, because I only crash right after its casted...
That might help ;)
-
Arrow does a impact effect too, that ripple-like thing..
And I\'ve never crashed on flame burst.. not once
-
Are people that stupid?
Yes.
I never crashed because of a spell. I cast a multitude of spells everytime i do combat, dispite the fact they have no/little effect, it makes things less boring. I\'ll continue to do so.
Run the updater, update your system. It\'s your fault your crashing.
-
Thanks for telling me that now i can go crash peoples games *evil laugh*

Hmm, ... Someone ruttling on the tree of headbutts,...
Such actions are neither funny nor cool, and it\'s not good for the server to crash every few minutes, so now that you know, dont cast flame, ESPECIALLY not on porpose...
-
I dont even like the spells, but if i had it i would still probably use it, i have not, nor seen a person crash from the use of this spell, its only something that happens to few i suppose, many of my friends use it, but I prefer steel....
also, making people mad is the coolest thing in the world *evil laugh*

It\'s your fault I\'m crashing, and I\'m updated...You\'ve probably never crashed because your computer must have this manually fixed, but your still causing problems for people like me, and whats worst is that you know about it, but you continue doing it...
-
so now you are saying people shouldnt do it because it does bad for you? and you seem to be in the minority? i dont think poeple should have to stop... its not as if its the end of the world, click the ps button wait a few seconds that you are good to go again.
-
Something to ponder:
Just because you don\'t use flame burst doesn\'t mean you are not stupid.
Just wanted to be clear on that :)
-
I know Jonabler :P
I wouldn\'t be so upset about it if I didn\'t crash about 3 times after the first one, especially playing on full screen, I have to restart my computer to close the window, and I keep crashing...Its not doing good on my hard drive, and I hate using the smaller screen because theres so many menus and other things popping up :/
-
ever heard of the amazing alt tab combination? or ctrl alt del for killing off bad things?

You can play in window mode without getting the screen any smaller...

Well, if someone would explain :P
I keep telling you I\'m not good with these things

I\'ve had a few of those crashes now when casting fire. It\'s not the visible effect that is responsible for it, it\'s the sound - I never crash when sound is off. Strange enough, the crash itself is in PlaneShift, not in libvorbis...

Thanks to Rhad, CS should be getting a new and more reliable sound engine soon (just to define \"soon\": in this case it means the testing version should be commited sometime this week, and there will be a period of integration, to work out any possible platform dependant issues)
If that won\'t fix this problem, I don\'t know what will, because the paths and aliases are all set correctly, so it\'s getting the right files. And they are wavs, so I suppose libvorbis has nothing to do with that. Will get the latest update to make sure nothing changed there, but from here it seems ok.
Suno_Regin: run pssetup.exe, uncheck fullscreen and either choose from the available resolutions the one that corresponds to your screen resolution, or check \"other\" and type the values there.
Or open planeshift.cfg and change the values of
; Width/height of CrystalSpace visual
Video.ScreenWidth = 1260
Video.ScreenHeight = 960
It\'s right at the top of the document.

Obviously they don\'t get the crashes.
And so don\'t care about your sorry but.
BTW: I haven\'t been on these boards for a while. We still alive then?
Working and all that?
Any progress made?
