After I updated and clicked to Launch Planeshift this comes up:
SCF_WARNING: factory returned a null instance for crystalspace.kernel.vfs
if error messages are not self explanatory, recompile CS with CS_DEBUG
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.kernel.vfs\'
Couldn\'t load VFS plugin \"crystalspace.kernel.vfs\"!
ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!
Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?
Exiting Planeshift. Press Enter...

Download the following file and replace the one in your PlaneShift folder with it:
http://www.planeshift.it/download/temp/vfs.dll
THEN LAUNCH UPDATER AGAIN.
Not sure why so many people are getting this error, it should be fixed already.
-
What do you mean replace? C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue <--- Thats where I am at.
But I don\'t see another file like that to replace it with.
-
Then you get one guess as to what to do... :P
-
Looks like I wont be playing this game.... :(
-
It\'s not that hard ;) There (should be!) a vfs.dll in C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue already. What you do is simply download the new file Zabeal linked to, and stick it into PlaneShift\'s main directory, replacing the old. And if you don\'t have a vfs.dll, it\'s even simpler - the downloaded file goes into C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue, and that\'s it.
-
Sorry to tell you that I downloaded the file that zabeal linked to, overwrited the one that was already there, and it still gives me the same exact error. Am I screwed?
EDIT: I\'ve done the update, and everything works fine now. So do that, and cross your fingers.
-
yea.....had the same problem with me
-
i done what zeble said....but done the same thing:(
-
I\'m experiencing the same issue.
I\'ve also tried to replace that vfs.dll file and run the updater again but this had no effect. Something else I noticed is that my setup won\'t run anymore at all.
-
The updater in recovery mode fails too?
There are threads where is pointed out that you could try moving the files outside the ps folder and see if the updater manages to get them (there\'s an option to change the default mirror too) all in order to avoid reinstalling the game again.
-
Well removing the file in question, or the accompagnying .cfg file only makes the updater crash as well so I\'m not getting anywhere that way.
No idea how to initiate recovery mode.
-
Recovery mode can be loaded by clicking the link named \"updater (recover mode)\" in the start menu. Who would\'a thought?.... :P If somehow you don\'t have one, stick a -auto onto the end of the updater\'s command. All this \"recovery mode\" does, is put it into text mode.
Putting the correct vfs.dll in WILL fix this issue. If you still crash something for one reason or another, it\'s a separate problem. If your setup is crashing, try editing pssetup.cfg in notepad or your favorite text editor. Stick a semicolon ( ; ) in front of every line with the word \"sound\" in it, save, and try to load it again. (you\'ll still need a working vfs.dll, first)
-
Problem fixed, apparently there was a second update that needed to be done as well.
-
downloaded twice, ran the updater twice, didn\'t work twice
-
Tapo, do you have by chance any other version of CS on your computer?

CS? like source? counterstrike?
EDIT: heeeey it works! 5th times a charm huh?
-
I meant CS = Crystal Space
but, then, GOOD that it works now :)
-
File has been officially updated, but if for some reason similar errors continue to pop up, Watcher provided another link:
http://radyr.cardiff.sch.uk/~peter.jenkins/vfs.dll (http://radyr.cardiff.sch.uk/~peter.jenkins/vfs.dll)

ok. i have a kina similar problem i think. when i try to launch the client, it gives me \"warning: could not load plugin crystalspace.kernel.vfs\" (somthing like that, it goeas away to fast to read really) then it opens the client and i can get in and play(its laggy but i can play)then after about 10 minutes, usually after i enter another zone...i get an error like this.....
PSCLIENT caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 019f:bff9dfff.

i dont know what any of that means, but i saw the kernel thing in the error and figured i would download the \"vfs.dll\" thing. i replaced that and ran the updater, and it told me there were no new files, so i ran the client, and still it does the same thing. ive also tryed re installing several times, i even redownloaded the installer, and nothing seems to work. i noticed that the mirror that i downloaded from has \"uploading files...\" next to it. could have anything to do with this?
please help if you can............
-
First I had the same problem that Kovich951 had. I tryed the things that you said and now i have this problem:
SCF_WARNING: factory returned a null instance for crystalspace.kernel.vfs
if error messages are not self explanatory, recompile CS with CS_DEBUG
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.kernel.vfs\'
Couldn\'t load VFS plugin \"crystalspace.kernel.vfs\"!
SCF_WARNING: factory returned a null instance for crystalspace.documentsystem.tinyxml
if error messages are not self explanatory, recompile CS with CS_DEBUG
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.documentsystem.tinyxml\'
ERROR: failed to load the XML parser!
ERROR: failed to init Crystal Space for app!
exiting Planeshift. Press enter...
My updater recovery mode doesn\'t work anymore either(Ihave named a updater updater and one oldupdater).
My normal updater works perfect but when I start the game I get a black screen.
