Hi guys,
I'd appreciate it if you could post any feedback on the installer (not the game) in this thread. Post both bugs and feature requests.
Just make a post in the following format:
Type: Feature Request or Bug
Description:
Your system specs:
And I'll try and resolve the problem/add the feature by the next release.
Feel free to start a new thread discussing a bug/feature request, but try and keep this thread clean please.
Thanks.

For me it would startup, and let me enter the game, but, as soon as I started to move it segfaulted. Wonder if this means anything;
$ ./pssetup
Mounting skin: /planeshift/art/apps.zip
Skipping \'YesNo\' because it\'s already loaded

Ok, looks like I need to include libcms. To fix that youself get libcms from your package manager.

Got them and added symlinks from within the ~/planeshift/libs/ directory. The setup doesn\'t complain about it anymore, now it segfaults just after loading the region. Last few lines from terminal (with -verbose on);
SCF_NOTIFY: loading plugin /home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/gmeshldr.so to satisfy request for csGeneralFactoryLoader
SCF_NOTIFY: loading plugin /home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/genmesh.so to satisfy request for csGenmeshMeshObjectType
SCF_NOTIFY: loading plugin /home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/glshader_fixed.so to satisfy request for csGLShader_FIXED
Segmentation fault
Also tried linking to the previous install\'s liblcms, same result as above. I captured the whole output with the -verbose if it would be of help.

Ok, I guess this segfault is due to the instability of the cvs snapshot I took rather than a installer problem.
It\'s something we should take a look at anyway.
Can you post a link to the whole output?

Hm, that\'s pretty verbose, I will have to keep that in mind for an upcoming project.
However, atleast when I loaded the page it stoped in the middle of a line:

Was that really where it ended? Or just an end of copying?

Yep, I just redirected stdout to that file. I did it again with both stdout and stderr redirected with;

hmm, strange problem. Looks like the skin isn\'t set correctly. Check psclient.cfg that the skin is default and not cvs.
-
I had a similar problem with Platyna\'s last release. I ended up editing the config file to manually select the skin - in my case \"ragnarok\" - the problem was weird, because in pssetup clicking on the skins dialog would allow me to select skins, but they would have not applied themselves ingame, even though the file looked correct. I changed it to \"cvs\" loaded, crashed, then changed it back to \"ragnarok\" and the problem went away.
-
Can you also check the permissions on the files in your planeshift dir, and also make sure that your user is in the games group if you didn\'t manually choose the permissions in the installer and installed as a user other than the one you\'re trying to run with.
-
i just wanted to download this installer but the only answer i got was 404 :-(
-
Yeah, I\'m moving mirrors. Should be up again in a few minutes.
Edit: Ok, both mirrors are up.
-
File permissions were fine for me and I was running with the user I installed with (same issue with your installer as with Platyna\'s) - I did the same procedure to fix it as well. A reinstall of your installer worked find though, and I couldn\'t repeat the issue. I think perhaps I am just insane.
-

Yep

Tried, no go.
Tried installing and running as root, same issues. I then set it to \"cvs\" (still has the MB startup screen) and actually got into the game, took about 2 to 4 steps before it segfaulted. I then set it to \"elves\", I can get into the game, I can got to the options menu and change options, but, as soon as I try to move it segfaults.
Tried downloading the installer again from the second mirror. Now I can get into the game without any changes to the psclient.cfg file. I can kill a MOB and take 2 steps, always on third step it segfaults. So it seems there is something different about the installer from the first time I tried. Guess I\'ll have to wait for next version of installer.

I\'m sorry if I was misleading - the theme ragnarok would not work without anyone who has not download the ragnarok skin. (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/planeshift/ragnarok.zip), and installed it with the instructions in this link. (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/planeshift/INSTALL)
The point I was making was that setting a skin with pssetup didn\'t seem to work properly. If it didn\'t segfault, it would appear normal (including an accurate preview) but then not work ingame. Changing the config file manually was all that worked - and changing it to something I ddin\'t want CVS or default - and then changing to the skin I wanted - was how I got it to actually load a skin.
:) I had to throw those iinks in up there - I couldn\'t resists.

Hm, thos warnings are being dealt with in CVS, so hopefully they won\'t be there by the next update. Not sure if something else might be going wrong, Xordan might know more, but you could check to be sure you are using the Default Skin and not CVS.

Thanks have read previews reply before.

try deleting the file and running planeshift (back up the file somewhere else first just in case)

Ok, it should be fixed by next update.
-
Is this the updater Chaos made? It looks better than when I first tried it! - I have a qustion though - should I be just hitting update? There a re a few options for things like update all files and update individual zip entries.
-
This is the installer I made and the updater is just the updater...
And you should just have to hit update.
-
The updater wont update. Here is the error I get.
root@blackmumba:/usr/local/games/planeshift# ./updater
./updater.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libidn.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
edit: 5:30am
Ok, I fix that one just installed the lastest libidn slackware package. But now new error.
root@blackmumba:/usr/local/games/planeshift# ./pssetup

root@blackmumba:/usr/local/games/planeshift# ./psclient.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libopenal.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I looked in the psclient.cfg and the skin is set to defult skin. I also tried to set it in the pssetup. But as you can see it would not save cofiguration and file permission are set for read, write and exe. Not sure about the libopenal.so file because I believe this is the sound and that appears to be off in pssetup. But it is early or late depends on how you look at it so Im off till tomorrow when I will try again.
O, by the way, can?t say how much I appreciate your efforts for us linux users. Keep up the good work, your the man xordan.
Edit: 23:10 Oct 24
Tried the r2 version and got new error.

Ok, I\'ll fix that asap. Will be fixed in the patch I upload later.

Hi, brand-new newbie here.
Type: Bug
Description: I downloaded and installed version 0.3.012, ran the updater, then ran psclient. I encountered the following issues:
1) There\'s already a username (\"Vengeance\") and password (8 characters) filled in. Definitely not mine.
2) When I attempt to connect to the server, I receive the message \"You are not running the correct version of Planeshift for this server.\"
I installed the 0.3.011 version into a separate directory; I get \"Fail 100%\" for Fragnetics in the server list, and \"The server is not running or is not reachable. Please check the website or forums for more info.\" when I attempt to connect.
I notice that in the 0.3.011 servers.xml file, it\'s trying to connect to port 7354, but 0.3.012 is using port 7777. After some experimentation, both versions get the \"not running the correct version\" message for port 7777, and \"not running or not reachable\" for 7354.
I\'ve completely reinstalled both versions, with the same results.
System specs: AMD Duron 1200, 512 MB, Debian 3.1 (2.6.8-2-k7 kernel)
-
Not positive here, just making a semi-educated guess, but I think some changes were made to fix some bugs after Xordan posted the 3.012 installer. Therefore, we must wait for a new installer to be posted for it to work with the current server version.
Someone please correct me if I\'m off base here. I was playing earlier in the day, before the server went down, and now I am also getting the \"You are not running the correct version of Planeshift for this server.\" message.
Edit: BTW that first 3.012 installer worked perfect for me out of the box. ( Kubuntu )
-
You may get the \"wrong version\" if you directly used the 0.3.012 installer, or updated with the mirror address. Change the \"updaterconfig.xml\" so that the active host ID is that of laanx again, there is a more recent version which is able to connect.
-
Arisu: Ok, I\'ll take a look at those and add them.
Everyone else:
Make sure you have the new 3.012P-r2 patch. It\'s up to date, so you shouldn\'t get any version error messages. And the Vengeance user is just a placeholder, not a real one.
-
Trying not to double post. Was not sure if you notice my edits in previous post.
Tried the r2 version and got new error.

First bug ( yes/no) from above.
Have found a second little bug with updater 1.0.2.7(0.3.012R2)
Have made several try of updates today in all update the updater is loading:
Update art/models.zip/trepor/trepor.cal3d (ZIP)
Total size 2.00 KB in 1 files
Cannot imagine they are making this trepor file 10 times a day...
Maybe the file cannot be transfered into model.zip or not notified after upload ?
-
Tarcaldy: Ok, you should install those libs yourself using whatever package manager slackware has. I\'ll add those files to the next release anyway.
Brasero: Seems a strange problem there. Just ignore it for now I guess, and post back if you have any problems ingame.
-
k, thanks.
I have a Windos XP machine so Im in the game at this time. But prefer linux for most online applications. You know better security.
If I find anymore missing libs do you want me to post them here or just install them. I would not mind helping out a bit. Seeing that I can play on my windows machine. :D
-
Post them here please. :)

Installed smpeg-0.4.4 and is working now. Thanks again for the client install for Liniux. Your the man Xordan. Back in the safest computer environment there is. :D

I have recently installed the r3 hotfixes.
As per instructions i ran the updater before running the client.
I am now no longer able to \'join the game\'. An error message is displayed stating that some widgets were not loaded and that I should check my logs.
The only file that I can find in my Planeshift Logs directory is a \'chat\' log.
Sorry I cannot be more specific, ie supply the log file. Or perhaps there is another location that I need to check.
Cheers.

Fix for the widget failed to load in R3
Hmm, seems Xordan used a version just a tad too new. To fix the the file, either get the whole thing from here:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml?content-type=text%2Fplain&rev=1.3
or manually apply this patch:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/planeshift/planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml?r1=1.2&r2=1.3
that\'s in planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml
Good news is this means you get to see money in the small inventory.

Hi for a new install do I have to load each version of the installer one after the other?
*edit Sorry for posting here meant to start a new topic

the aRts problem still persists :(
-
Yeah, I didn\'t have time to fix other problems, as I found out we were releasing an update after the windows one had been done.... so I just grabbed latest cvs and compiled that. I\'ll see if I can sort out the other issues today or tomorrow.

Running SUSE 10
when I click the PlaneShift_CBV0.3.011.linux.x86-2.run file it starts to make my HD go nuts, then opens the file in Kwrite and says, this is a binary file if you save it will be corrupt, then it has a bunch of script info. Isn\'t it supposed to start the installer?
-
Thats the wrong version try downloading the one Here (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=19389&boardid=41&styleid=2) and you will need to follow the instructions in the other post also about the hot patch

Hi all,
am running fedora core 4, and trying to update - when I run the hotfix download first I got a missing dependency - liblcms.so.1 - I fixed that with my package manager (yum).
Next run of updater I get:
[usul@ODIN PlaneShift-CBV0.3.0.12-r3-i686.tar.bz2_FILES]$ ./updater.bin
./updater.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
*edit*
its present in: /home/usul/planeshift/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7 and is linked to libssl.so.0 & libssl.so in the same directory
*end edit*
has anyone got any knowledge of where to look next?
many thanks,
tone_ :)

When I run the 3.0.12P-r2 binary on an AMD64 Ubuntu Breezy machine, I get a segfault.
Both the 32-bit and 64-bit binary installers segfault immediately.
The 3.0.11 binary on the website does not do this.
Can anyone help?
-
monchichi: Can you post the error message?
-
I\'d appreciate an answer guys - was my post too stupid to warrant an answer? Please let me know if I should just try and compile from source and not ask here for help...

I have no idea what\'s going wrong there. You could try getting libssl through your package manager instead.

-
tone, you need to call updater, not updater.bin.
monchichi, planeshift does not use those directly (maybe the installer does?), so I would guess it is something wrong with your install of gdk or Xlib maybe.
-
thanks guys, I\'m reading about ssl etc and will try updater (not .bin) later - sorry for the grumpy post yesterday - it was a loong weekend.
thanks for your help,
t.
-
monchichi: Installer itself is 32-bit, so it won\'t find the correct libs as they\'re 64-bit. But it shouldn\'t segfault. That\'s the OS\'s fault, not the installers I\'m thinking. You could try getting a 32-bit-lib package, although I don\'t know how in ubuntu. Works fine in gentoo and the version of ubuntu I use though, ver 4.something I think.

a strange thing.

You should be using this version PlaneShift-CBV0.3.0.12-r-i686.bin not version 0.3.011

Hi,
I have downloaded the R4 \'patch\', which provides updater.bin and psclient.bin.
The updater seems to run fine.
When attempting to run the client (via gui), nothing appears to happen.
./psclient from within a terminal provides a single line error output

So far R4 updated, setup works, and it runs.
Thanks, Xordan! Hey! you even found a workaround for the aRts problem :D

Nah, that\'s the default dummy user for cvs. It won\'t work on laanx, only on a cvs server.

Type: Bug
Description: I\'ve downloaded the new installer and was able to run it, but when i get to the part where i\'m supposed to run the updater, i get this:
./updater: line 5: /planeshift/updater.bin: cannot execute binary file
./updater: line 5: /planeshift/updater.bin: Success
the same happens when i try to run the pssetup and psclient respectively. How can I fix this?
Your system specs: ubuntu 5.10
-
That\'s strange. This kind of errors usually appear, when You try to execute a file, which has invalid format.
Do the following:
file ./updater.bin
You should see something like this:
updater.bin: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped
If You can\'t see \"ELF 32-bit LSB executable\" it means, that your files may be corrupt. Redownload and reinstall.
Also: The first slash in the path bothers me (I mean : /planeshift/updater.bin), is that file really in /planeshift folder ?
-
You would also get that error if you downloaded and tried to use the amd64 binaries on a x86 system I think.
-
I use ubuntu hoary
-updater is working
-But psclient fails and do not even start
in realese r4 size psclient.bin is only 875,5 KO
and in r3 psclient.bin it was 11.4 MO
There is download problem on planshift server
Check fill size and extraction after download.
PlaneShift-CBV0.3.0.12-r4-i686.tar.bz2
file must be 6.3Mb

Type: Bug
Description:
The installer description is VERY misleading.
You might like to point out one VITAL piece of info....
These are NOT installers. They are UPDATES!
This is very unclear in the forums.
In order to INSTALL, you need to:
Download and run PlaneShift_CBV0.3.011.linux.x86-2.run
THEN download and run PlaneShift_CBV0.3.012P-r2.i686.bin
THEN download PlaneShift-CBV0.3.0.12-r4-i686.tar.bz2
Extract that last file to the install directory.
And FINALLY run update
In order to figure this out, I had to make the mistake of thinking that rc2 was the installer, waste a couple hours trying to figure out where it put the art directory, etc, etc... and then realise I didn\'t even have the actual installer.
An update on the Linux section of the download page would have saved me a buttload of work and frustration.
Obligatory System Specs:
Athlon XP 2200+
512MB DDR RAM
nVidia GeForce 5200 w/ 256MB
Mandrake 10.1 (Official) for i586
Linux Kernel 2.6.8.1-25mdk
KDE 3.2.3-17.7.101mdk
-
Actually, it is the installer. You don\'t _need_ to get the one off the website. A ./updater.bin -auto would get you all the art and data needed. From next update(next few weeks) it will have art packaged with it as well. So I\'m not changing the description as I\'ll have to change it back again. :)

Hi all,
In regards to my earlier posts concerning the R4 patch.
Not sure why this occured but a number of attempts to download the packages, I only got two files in the archive.
Within less than a day of my previous post I got all three files and have been up and running.
I am a little befuddled as to what happened, nevermind all fixed now.
Thankyou Xordan, for you efforts in providing updates for Linux, and sorry for not having got back to you sooner.
Cheers.

/psclient.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libopenal.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
though it was present in the libs directory - after picking about in psclient.bin I found these lines:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=libs/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
exec ./psclient.bin \"$@\"
so I ran them from a terminal and bingo!
out of interest, what permissions should be set on psclient and other files in my planeshift directory? they\'re all currently owned by me..
thanks everyone for their help.
-
Permissions should be whatever you want. Just make sure you have read and execute, and maybe write permissions.

I\'ve been trying to get R4 to work on my Gentoo system for a few days now. It annoyed me that it seems I have to have arts installed (meaning I must install QT also) to play. I use ALSA and esd (stanalone Enlightenment 17)
....If someone could help me out, that would be great. I really don\'t want to compile system libraries that I don\'t use.

I\'m using Ubuntu Breezy on a Pentium IV.
I\'m installing Planeshift and updating for the first time. But the updater seems a bit strange...

I don\'t mind much because it is updating the game, but you can\'t say it\'s normal ;)

Hi guys,
I have a problem with the final of the installation :\\
I made all points of the installing guide, but for last i dont know what to do :)
When I want to try to start the game, its show me that:
\" * This likely means that the plugins could not be found.
If you\'re a user: Check the working directory the application starts from -
usually, it is the same as the directory with the executable.
If in doubt, contact the vendor.
If you\'re a developer: Check if the CRYSTAL environment var points to the
correct location - usually the directory CS was built in.
ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!
Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?\"
Can you tell me what to do :)

You are posting in the Xordan\'s installer feedback thread, so I guess you are using the Xordan\'s installer? Which one is the last step you are not sure about?
The error message itself indicates that you are missing CrystalSpace libraries or the Planeshift client does not know where to find them.

oke do u know what to do to install the game :)

I tought you already installed it ;)
Use the Xordan\'s installer that you can find here (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=19389&boardid=41&styleid=1).
-
I\'m downloading it now, but where may I take the installer? In the PlanetShift folder?

You start the installer in the directory where you download it. Here (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=20872&boardid=41&styleid=1[) you can find some more instructions that could be useful for you.

I\'ve put the bittorrent link to the full linux installer in the releases post. You might have better luck with that as it comes with all the art.

Told my server to seed the torrent with upload-rate of 300KBytes/sec......
But there\'s only one 100% atm and this one\'s slow :/
*UPDATE*: Got it right now but I\'m gonna take my server off, this thing segfaults, too :/
If anyone wants to help, here\'s the output of strace: http://kripton.kripserver.net/self/trace

running the installer with \"./PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.i686.bin --mode xwindow\" as explained here: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=22262&boardid=41
helped; server back on, seeding with 500KBytes/sec =D

Thanks, I got better luck with the installer I downloaded with bit torrent. However, the game has an issue: It crashes everytime I swap windows.
It doesn\'t seem to send any kind of error message, just mentions it had a Segmentation Fault.

Most likely you have disabled sound in the setup. This is a bug (already fixed in CVS) that the game tries to mute sounds when the game window loses focus even if the sound engine is not initialized and therefore crashes. Enabling sound should fix that.
-
I have a buggy display, when it starts up there are black patches in planeshift display that don\'t display anything except the mousetrail if I go over it. The output from running it is as follows

-
If your updater is crashing, save this file to your PS dir overwriting the file that is there atm;
http://www.xordan.com/up
Then try running the updater again. (./updater)
-
thanx! updating \"up\" worked just fine...
-
Thanks Xordan, updater works for me now using your file.
Edit: Aargh! Yes, the installer works for me now, but I\'m now getting a similar free() message when I try to run the client instead, which worked okay before.
I\'m just downloading the full release from the .torrent in the Installing PlaneShift on Linux thread to see if that works - I\'d used the torrent on the PlaneShift download page originally, so don\'t know whether that was a different one or not. Fingers crossed, but if this one doesn\'t work I\'m stuck again.
-
Delete the version.dat file in your PS dir. Should fix the crash.
-
All updated and working now, thanks. Removing the version.dat fixed it.
-
I\'ve just tried out the new installer for 0.3.014b, and while the installer itself runs very well, there\'s a problem which you may not have considered if you\'re running a 64-bit machine without 32-bit binary support.
In that case, you can\'t use the installer, since it\'s 32-bit, though if you run the installer on a 32-bit system and select 64-bit, then copy the resulting directory over, everything\'s fine.
Ideally, I think it\'d be best if there was a 64-bit binary of the installer too.
-

I\'ve requested it. I think it would be good to have as well.

Why isn\'t planeshift built using a shar style archive like the way the loki installers do? That way a architecture agnostic bash shell script would start up and kick start and detect WHAT you are running and trigger the correct binary setup to install the data. It would seem that would solve many of the problems people are having with the current installer..

Huh? Architecture has nothing to do with those problems.... I don\'t follow your reasoning. And if it\'s a problem with glibc 2.4, well it\'s not my problem if distros use barely released software with bugs in and things break.

The installer worked like a charm for me.

The Istaller worked good for me too but with some issues with sblive,
Linux Debian 2.6.12 Enlightenment P4 CPU 2600 Ghz Nvidia 5200
When using sb 128 pci I didn't have problems at all also not after upgrading.
But when I replaced the soundcard with SBLIVE 5.1 (full duplex) It sometimes segfaulted
and after upgrading Planeshift I had no sound at all, but no more segfaults.

hope this is not the problem.

on dapper you can't execute the binary by double clicking and hitting run, nor by ./installername.bin
instead you MUST use sh installername.bin
-
Thanks for the reply Induane,
but it seems there is no way I can start the installer via sh installername.bin.
Whether as root nor after chmodding it nor after renaming it. I downloaded a fresh installer (md5 checked) before.
In fact the only two ways to get it started are by using ./installername.bin or by doubleclicking on it.
-
you are running amd64 right?... ok just read your specs... and yes you are lol.. I really did have the same issue as you but sh insertnameofinstallerfilehere.bin worked for me... try this: I believe that there is an option to run in text mode only... I can't remember it off the top of my head but try this:
reboot machine - hit escape while its starting up (where you see hit escape to load grub menu)
and select the first "recovery mode"
this will load you into a text only environment. cd into the dir with the file in it. Then, try running it - either with ,/ or sh and try with --help or --? or something to see if there is a commandline only version.. see if it will run there.
-
Yeah, you can run the installer from the commandline when you're not running X.
-
Hi guys,
I\'d appreciate it if you could post any feedback on the installer in this thread. Post both bugs and feature requests...

I have the .015 running on windows no problem, its the linux one i need help on. I downloaded it to my desktop and of course i tried to install it from my account, then saw this thread. I rebooted into recovory mode, chmod +X'd it and then ./'d it, said it was unable to run it because it might not be complete, i also tried to use sh with the +x and without, still no go. Im running Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake on an nvidia Geforce 440MX
-
Why did you run it in recovery mode? Just open a terminal and ./ it.
-
wget -c http://xrl.us/pslinux fixed it
-
wget -c http://xrl.us/pslinux fixed it
Strange that, I tried to download it twice from the normal link, but both times it stopped at 178MB. The above command, however, appears to be working and it is busy again. Hope to be online soon...
-
Xordan, you still include Cg librararies, wich may cause dramatic fps drop when looking through portals (see example (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24343.msg270645#msg270645)). I don't know how many users suffer from this, but why don't You update Cg toolkit to latest stable version ?
-
Ok, I'll update. Thanks. 1.4.1 is supposed to be compatible with things built with 1.4 so I'll just update the libs.
Edit: Ok, once the updater is published, just run fixlibs.sh to get the new libs.
-
Emm... this has probably already been asked. But i can't find the compiling guide.
If there is one you should make it wasier to find.
-
You can try the one from the cvs:
http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html
Or you can look for the Ubuntu build guide which you find here:

(None of the torrents or .bin links from Download Page worked)
Installed .16 (64bit) over old .15b (64bit), run updater (updating binary psc),
run pssetup and psclient.
Tadaa! It works!
Once again, good work Xordan.
And Thanks to all PS-Devs.

i have the exact same error as Fellon and steveit.
installer gets through asking all questions and is JUST about to install and it crashes, i also noticed that when i cancel haflway through the questions it says "Uninstalling Planeshift" when it never actually started and does the same crash thing.
any ideas? i really want to play this game...
Cheers.

Just wanted to say that I appreciate you providing a graphical installer. Makes things much easier and faster and just all around more efficient. I like the command line, but clicking "I Agree" and "Next" instead of "spacebar spacebar spacebar, y, ./configure" is a nice change. Thanks, and as far as stability, I haven't had any issues with the installer at all. Kudos.

When I use the installer, I got very annoying graphic bugs:
- transparent characters / items
- very confused textures (you can't tell whet items are in your inventory, you have to point the mouse on it until the desc. appears)
- labels (names above the chars) are cut off at the lower-left corner)
This happens at both computers I want to play Planeshift on:
PC:
- Linux 2.6.17-beyond-git2 PREEMPT i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
- Gentoo Linux unstable (default-linux/x86/2006.1/desktop, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.5-r0)
- ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB - AGP (using the 3D-accelerated) driver shipped with xorg-x11-7.1 / xorg-server-1.1.1-r3 / mesa-6.5.1-r4)
Laptop:
- Linux 2.6.17-beyond4 PREEMPT i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.70GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
- Gentoo Linux unstable (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.5-r0)
- ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW (AGP) (using the 3D-accelerated) driver shipped with xorg-x11-7.1 / xorg-server-1.1.1-r3 / mesa-6.5.1-r4)
When I build PlaneShift from source (only tried on my desktop), the graphics are perfect. (There's still some problem with sound, though)
This is yet only feedback, I'll try to dig into the problem to find out a bit about it.
BTW: Is there a way to display my current FPS? Would be nice if I could compare binary/selfbuilt

You can try the one from the cvs:
http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html
Or you can look for the Ubuntu build guide which you find here:
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/cvs.htm
I don't maintain that build guide anymore - I moved them all to my central docs site: http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc (http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc)

Hello,
I'ven been trying to install PS on my laptop, but it keeps failing at the same point.
Type: Bug
Description: I downloaded the 3.0.18 bin file from the torrent and several of the mirrors. Then I chmodded the file to be executable and try to run it, with or without sh or sudo starting the command and I get the same error immediately:
OK, after 3 days of trying it finally works when I try to report the error... \\o// It was something like: unexpected "(".
I did install a library that enabled 32-bits Boinc units to be run on my system, perhaps that had something to do with it.
Your system specs: AMD64 Turion, Ubuntu/Gnome, kernel 2.6.17-11-generic, 1024 MB RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 (128 MB)
Hmm. I don't need any help anymore, but something apparently was wrong that rebooting in the morning fixed. Ah well, forget it.
Thanks for a great game!

[repost ...done it in the wrong place]
Greetings,
i was trying to install PS 018 on an Ubuntu 6.06 LTS using the installer but i've had problems:
the installer starts normally and asks me everything like usual but when it wants to start the 'real' installation (file copy) the process exits and creates a dumpfile.

I've used no system wide, as WM gnome, no menu icons, no desktop shortcuts, no manual permissions (tried to use it once but same problem).
I've tried to run it with sudo and to create the PlaneShift dir manually but nothing changed. It's a known issue? How can i fix it?
Thanks.

Type: Bug
Description: The installer always crashes very early in the process. I start it, select my language, accept the license and then then it stops with the message (in the terminal): "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" That's it. Any help would be appreciated
System Specs: I'm using Kubuntu 7.04 with a pretty stock Dell Inspiron e1505. it has an Intel Core Duo T2300, 1GB of RAM, an Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 with the latest drivers. If there are any other specs you need, please let me know.

@ reldruh & esserfin
Try downloading this installer:
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/Downloads/PlaneShift%20Crystal%20Blue-0.3.018-Linux-x86-Install (http://vaalnor.mine.nu/Downloads/PlaneShift%20Crystal%20Blue-0.3.018-Linux-x86-Install)
And let me know if it works for you. It'll be a long download, I'm not the fastest server around since mines in my house... but still should work for you guys. I like this installer package a bit better than bitrock only because its highly (completely) scriptable, and seems to work on a wider variety of software as its tlk/ck based. Xordan care to investigate installjammer a bit? :D

Add support for Folders with spaces in their names.
(I think it would suffice with adding '\' before every space encountered in the name of the target folder)
