I have looked around for someone with this problem or similar, but couldn\'t find anything.
I manage to download and update, but when I go to start the game or even run PlaneShift Setup, the whole system hangs after a few seconds, before I even click on anything.
I have
Windows XP (SP2)
AMD XP2500
ATI Radeon 9600
Gigabyte MB
512 MB RAM
80GB HD
This has happened before on another free online game (can I say which one?), where the whole system froze after only 10 seconds.
IF anyone has come across a similar problem or even better knows a solution, would be hiiiighly appreciated!
Thanks!

Try turning off sound in the setup first.
If that doesn\'t work, there\'s a sticky in this forum section on ATI messyness...

Thanks, but entering the setup screen itself freezes the computer :/ strange I know! Is there anyway to change the settings from the command line without entering setup?
-
Yes.
If I remember right you have to open in /Directory of Planeshift/ psclient.txt
then - hopefully that I am giving you the right instructions -
where you see:
;Sound renderer
System.PlugIns.iSoundRender = crystalspace.sound.render.software
substitute it with:
;Sound renderer
;System.PlugIns.iSoundRender = crystalspace.sound.render.software

psclient.txt is the log file... :P
You want pssetup.cfg
Sticking a \" ; \" on that line ~should~ allow you to run the setup.

Right, I was not thinking clearly :)
Thanks!

Hey thanks guys! Tried the command line thingy, it didnt work :p , but I started windows in safe mode and ran setup in there, and managed to launch without hardware acceleration. Must be the ATI issue.
I managed to connect to a server, setup a character and start loading the game. Now I have a different problem! The game crashes right at the end of loading,
the psclient log says something about missing widgets and images, I\'m sure I saw one of those in another forum, may well be the Radeon.
Thanks for your help guys.
