Title: Character Theme Music
Post by: Odessa Wildfire on October 04, 2005, 12:40:17 pm
Ive been working on theme music for my character and wondered if anyone else has done the same?.
Dosent need to be long, a few mins at the most. But please, no taking credit for other peoples work or using any known existing artists work.
Ive always believed sometimes music can describe things better than words.
Id be intrested in hearing what people come up with :)

eww this is my area of expertise :P. I\'ll have a go. Will need to find some new sounds and stuf to piece together. may I ask what program you use? and where you got your sounds to make the music? i\'m curious :D

Exellent!, a fellow musician :D
I tend to use Fl Studio, cubase (if i have too), reason (again only if I have too), goldwave and adobe audition.
If I can i generate my own sounds but otherwise I look and listen around me (wouldnt believe where you can get some great samples from lol).
Im also having ago at making a Audio movie lol... SFX are always my fav bit :D
The trouble is always finding a catch or starter tune as you know. I always find my tunes sounding like a game soundtrack lol.
Anything go`s, no matter what it sounds like. As long as its your own work.

hmm me musician, hah, lol that\'s the funniest joke i\'ve heard all day. I don\'t make my music. I get friends or people I know to do differant pieces then I make music and songs out of it.
I use many programs for what I do but mainly Magix music maker 2005.
Audio movie? hah i\'ve done one of those once. but too busy to do one again.
I have trouble finding starting music too. I use songs like planeshift\'s music and music from games like settlers and anything medieval and stuff or fantasy.
it twill be my own work. maybe a couple of pieces that will sound similar to other music you\'ve heard but not the same songs :P.

well mine is going ok. working on it on 2 comps. 1 that has a very low CPU so it runs the music very slow. another (this one) which has the internet connected has most of the sounds saved but I just save the sounds and what i\'ve done to my USB drive and bring it back and fourth between my comps to make the music.

Sounds like a plan :)
Its picking the right backing too... making sure the ambient sounds come through without stealing focus away from the main tune.
It theres such a thing called Writters Block, then theres got to be a musician version of it too lol... and Ive got it GGGRRR :(. Im going through my VST collection but nothing fits.
Still im going to press on...

what you do, is hand me some music, then i will send you a WAV of whatever i come up to go with it, then you can add that as a layer to the song. Just specify the timing of such parts as bridges, chorus\'s and verse parts, any leads you might want, the kind of tones you want me using (Clean, acoustic, blues, jazz, extreme ub3r german metal band or rectifier, though i think the first four work best)
Im up for parts ^^

hmm It worked for me. I run Download Accelerator Plus 7.0 on my comp so I clicked on the link and it downloaded through that. so it worked for me.
anyway I thought it was ok Odessa. needs a couple more tunes. gets a bit boring of 3 mins of the same tunes. but still was ok.
i\'m looking for a few more tunes to add to mine. should be done if I work hard on it.

Just to update you all Ive now complete the atmosphere tune for Infectum Animus (Latin translated to Corrupted Soul).
http://www.infectumanimus.byethost15.com Its just a little under 1.5mb
As for charater theme tunes (Odessa, Embers and Aluna\'s) thats still in the works. Too much plotting and not enough playing :D
Ive moved in to the DR library. As soon as I walked in there after the addons I became... whats the word?... Infected with awe.
P.S: Sangwa, Im starting work on your \'suspicious\' violin tune.
[EDITED: All tracks from me will in future be avalible on Infectum Animus\'s guild website.]

Yeah, I tried doing this too once. I got a pretty good one, but to get it into the computer I gotta get some converter for my guitar amp so the sound isn\'t out of whack when recorded on my PC. Should get it pretty soon, so once I get it recorded, cut and produced I\'ll definately have to post it up here for some feedback. :]

I have one song right now that is befiting my Char.-Driven to motion (http://www.myspace.com/lambentflame) and/or Ahathoors song (http://www.isound.com/mp3s/lambent_flame/) there are others but I haven\'t had them posted in a long time. I\'d have to dig them out of my archive. Let me know what you guys think of my music :]
:: Edit :: Those paticular songs are no longer there. But thanks to those who listened :]
Title: Theme for Nikoren?
Post by: Khorus on November 12, 2005, 06:20:10 pm
Here is something I did last spring in a hour or so. Actually it is more like a test song for sound and software than an actual song (the reason why it is so short is that my old comp wasn\'t able to handle more :( ), but I guess that it could go as a \"Theme music for Nikoren\"....maybe.. or maybe I\'ll do a better one if I have time and will to do one ;)
The \"song\" (http://www.students.oamk.fi/~knmima00/stuff/Fantasy_theme_edirol_edit.mp3)

Hmm what program do you use for mixing, I have been playing around a bit with audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) lately, so I could probably mix the tracks together/integrate simple synthetizised parts.

Tring to boost our \'myspace\' hits are we? ;)
I hate being honest with people when It may hurt them, but then I expect people to comment on my material.
Radiant Memphis, the tune it self was good... but it seemed alittle out of place because of the modern theme and instuments used. I though It was too futuristic for the Planeshift setting. But thats not to say that It dosent describe your character.
Good Job though :]

Now thats what im talking about! :] Good use of instruments too. I always believe a characters theme tune should be like a small story, not to short but captures the essense.
Bravo to that man!.

I want Danger Zone for mine. But since it is kinda against the rules, I\'d have an up-beat fight sone for mine kinda like that. Eye of the Tiger would work too, but same problem. I am very musically challenged though.

:D /me laughs about the my-space hits. Ay honesty. Constructive criticism is always good for me Odessa; which is what I see your comment as :) I thought about the more modern sound and should have edited my post to say he created the sounds via. magic.............but nah, it\'s been used to often. Ok I will work on a more classical feel something that might be found in planeshift. Besides I need a break from some of my current songs.

There are plenty of good links to sequencing software (some free, some commercial) on this page (http://www.sonicspot.com/sequencers.html) and this one (http://www.synthzone.com/midiseq.htm).
Of all the Linux sequencers I\'ve looked at, Rosegarden (http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/) is the one I like best (though configuring it isn\'t for the faint of heart).
I do most of my work in Cakewalk\'s SONAR 5 Producer (http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/default.asp) (for Windows; it\'s a bit pricey, but it\'s definitely got all the bells and whistles. They also have a wide range of lower-cost products, such as Home Studio (http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/HomeStudio/default.asp), about $100). In the Windows freeware arena, Music Studio Producer (http://www.frieve.com/english/musicstd/musicstd.html) looks pretty capable, though I haven\'t actually tried it.
Not really sure what\'s good on the Mac.
This thread has inspired me to write a piece (working title: March of the Stonebreakers), but it\'s pretty slow going... I wrote about a minute\'s worth of music on Saturday, but haven\'t had a chance to get back to it since then. :(

Ok so this isnt a theme tune but I love making short sound movies. This one took a coulpe of hours and its just over 2 mins.
[Link Removed] - See futher posts.
I wanted to overlay music but couldnt find anything at the time that fitted.
I hope someone likes it ;).
Update
Heres a more detailed version :). Still no music to it yet.

Aluna -- for some reason I could only download about half of it before my browser reported an error (I tried a couple of times). But what I heard was certainly interesting (I got up to the point where a second voice just started speaking).
So this is the second time in this thread I\'ve seen the phrase \"sound movie\". I take it that\'s similar to what used to be called a \"radio play\"?
(Still plugging along on \"March of the Stonebreakers\", which perhaps I\'ll be able to post before PlaneShift gets out of pre-Alpha, Alpha and Beta... modulating back to the tonic is always the hardest part for me...)

Post by: Aluna Brightburn on November 28, 2005, 05:37:14 pm
Hmm, odd. Ive tried D/L it myself with no problems. But I have noticed glitching and stutter in the mp3. I use getright (a download manager) to D/L most of my stuff.
I will check into the problem this side though.
Yes I guess it is radio play :). I couldnt think of the correct term for it.

That server does not support resuming; it does not report the final size of the file. Therefore a client (webbrowser or DL manager) can only download until no data is received anymore.
Title:
Post by: Aluna Brightburn on November 28, 2005, 06:20:53 pm
Yes Gag, your correct. The server also restricts me to 2MB (2048kb) file sizes for uploads.
I will have to take them off and leave them for now then :(. Servers being picky about downloading mp3\'s it appears.
Irll try doing it through flash as a SWF file.
UPDATE As Gag pointed out OGG is far better at lower bitrates. Irll give it a try :).

Just to update everyone still interested in this \'Project\' (being to create a theme for your character) I have begun composing a second track for Odessa. All my tunes normally come from a scene or moment in my RP. This second track is based on the final moments of Odessa\'s life before her will gave out and her spirit left her body allowing Embers to take control.
Not many of you will know this story. All my tracks are on The Soulless (http://www.infectumanimus.byethost15.com/) guild/order website.

This one is kinda lenthy but, sometimes so are my char.s conversations. It\'s called Radiance (http://www.tagworld.com/lambentflame). Seems that I can only listen to it with firefox browser though. Drop some feedback. :D
:: Edit :: Also, note this is a song I did some time ago and the mixing may not be as good as some of my other stuff. Still fun to listen to though.

Actually it\'s just plain old simple Garageband. Fun application to play with if you tweak it a lot. :D
:: Edit :: Oh, it\'s VST\'s and AU\'s for all the effects, of which there where a good bit of.

Radiant Memphis, I do like that track very much. Am I the only one to get ideas in the wierdest of places or times?. For example I was sitting with friends in a lucture and heard someone banging on the wall from the room next door. Whilest this isnt really anything odd, at the time I was thinking how come with all the paper balls being thrown about none came within my reach lol. Thats when it hit me... no not a paper ball but yet another idea for a tune. One time I heard a floresent light flicking on and off in rythem and started tapping my foot to the beat... ah it just goes on :] .
Anyway, feels good to be back. Exams are almost over with and then its time for some hard core PS & RP .
Miss you all and see you soon.
