Title: Castle of the Winds: old rpg game, very fun, now freeware
Post by: zanzibar on October 05, 2005, 04:52:15 am
http://wind.prohosting.com/cotwrpg/download.html

This came up in another thread, so I decided to post a link to where you can download it.  It\'s a very fun game, very basic. Will probably be a trip down memory lane for some of you.

It\'s really easy to die in the beginning....  on a side note, moogie moved it to the hydlaa thingy, then you moved it back, hope you two are getting along. :-D

It\'s not moved back, a ghosted copy is just kept in General Discussion that forwards readers here :) In case someone goes looking for the thread in its original location.

Use the numeric keypad.

I\'m on a laptop which doesn\'t have the \"normal\" numeric keypad, and using the Page Down / Up / Home / etc. keys in its place was awkward - but you can move your avatar perfectly by clicking and dragging into the directions you want to travel.

I don\'t remember if it\'s possible to change the keys though... it\'s been a while.

CotW has been in the public domain since 1998.  I wouldn\'t really call it news like this thread seems to suggest *grin*  Although Rick Saada never released the source code, he\'d probably email it to you if you asked him for it.

Still, it\'s an awesome game.  I remember playing this a long time ago.  CotW was perhaps the earliest RPG I\'ve ever played, and although it\'s hard to pick up if you\'re not used to rogue-like games, it\'s addictive once you do.
