read through the article and i just thought of something. aside from thinking of buying tinfoil stocks.

if he uses the wireless adaptor, that he probably isn\'t using becuase of governement paranoia, the \"keylogger\" is bypassed. or he could use a separate ethernet adataper, again bypassing it.

given his training, i wonder if he just tried cutting it out of the loop.

but, one question does arise. what was he doing inside his laptop in the first place. if it is as new as he says then it was a warrenty job.

makes you wonder how long it will be before they start doing this to new computers of all sorts and handhelds, If they haven\'t already started. this is stuff that if we did we would be locked up in jail for the rest of our lives. but the governments go and do it and we get into trouble if we find out.

Hmmm... Well, This is a hoax (http://snopes.com/computer/internet/dellbug.asp) that have been doing the rounds on the net for a while. The most obvious errors are that the device shown is not made to be connected to a laptop keyboard, this is meant to be connected between a normal PC keyboard and the keyboard port in a PC, normal PC keyboards have an internal microcontroller that handles the scanning of the keyboard and conversion of the information to a form suitable for transferring the data to a PC over a serial connection, as having a wire for each of the leads from the actual keyboard matrix to the PC would be rather inefficient. Laptop keyboards, how ever, will not use this approach, as the main board is already so close to the actual keyboard, a standard ribbon cable can be used, so in a laptop all the circuits involved in scanning the keyboard will be on the main board itself, so this device could not be used in the manner described. Also, this is a very unreliable way of doing this, it is far to easy for someone to remove or cripple the device, and it would not be able to log external PS2 or USB keyboards.

Now, when that is said, the device shown is a real keyboard logger, keyghost (http://www.keyghost.com/) sells loggers for connection between a keyboard and a PC, or even keyboards with built in loggers. And though this device does not have network capability, there is no reason that it would not be possible to build such a function into a computer that has such a logging feature. The problem is that there would just be too much data to monitor if you were to monitor all computers, all the time, so this feature would probably only be accessed if there is some ongoing investigation. Not that they could not be abused...

The keyloggers I know of aren\'t hardware, they\'re software.  They\'re hidden from sight using magic-folder technology, they can be installed remotely, and they record a combination of keystrokes and screen shots.

Are you trying to market them to the forum or something?  Haha \"Magic-folder technology.\"  Sorry, but no matter what context you\'re trying to use that phrase in, it\'s just sort of....lame.  Try using real terminology or something.  Maybe then I won\'t giggle. =P

It\'s like some stupid program to personalize the backgrounds of all your \"folders.\"  C|net rates \"Magic Folder\" for Windows 4.5 out of 5 stars! Wheee

maybe this is one of those times \"the mythbusters\" can shead some light on things. unless they are in on the conspiracy too.

Magic Folders is a program which hides directories from other users.  They\'re beyond hidden, and they can\'t be written over.  The only way to view the directory is to type the right password in to Magic Folders, or to uninstal Magic Folders.  However, if the person you\'re hiding stuff from doesn\'t know MF is on the computer, it probably won\'t get uninstalled.

Then that isn\'t a \"technology,\" now is it?  It\'s a lame copyrighted name for a piece of software that\'s probably used primarily by script kiddies attempting to be 1337 haxx0rz.
