Situation 1
Me walks deep in the sewers.
There is He, standing still.
A tefusang appears.
He hits the tefusang for 247 damage.
He kills the tefusang.
Me says: \"Hi\"
He says nothing
Another tefusang appears.
He hits the tefusang for 217 damage.
He kills the tefusang.
Me says: \"May I test my sword kills?\"
He says nothing.
A third tefusang appears.
He hits the tefusang for 263 damage.
He kills the tefusang.
Me says: \"Is your role to make sure that this monster never survives more than few seconds?\"
He says nothing.
Me leaves.
I know this has been discussed many many times. But it still seems to be a common case whenever you go. There are several well known spawn spots and they are almost always occupied by somebody who know only three commands: select, attack, loot. Even moving around seems to be too complicated.
Is leaving that spot the only option I have? Game mechanics work as the work, could you please at least try to pretend that you do not know where the next monster appears.
Situation 2
Me has a conversation with some other players at the Plaza.
He walks to us and challenges me to a duel.
Me rejects the challenge.
Me asks: \"Why did you challenge me?\"
He walks away.
Now, as far I know, this is the definition of a duel: \"a prearranged fight with deadly weapons by two people (accompanied by seconds) in order to settle a quarrel over a point of honor\".
So what was the point of honor?
How was it prearranged?
Who where the seconds?
Maybe devs would consider changing the /challenge command into /murder.
wants to murder you.
Me agrees to die.
Just had to write this before starting other more important things like earning my living etc.
-
I think a seperate /murder command would work, iff it meant that EVERYONE in distance could then attack the murderer. So you could murder someone in a public place, but everyone else could rush in to kill you as the almost-victim ran to safety. In more isolated places like ojaroad, things would of course be different, but that only gives more significance to guilds such as the Defenders and the Protectors who have a claim to protecting the weak of body.

I didn\'t write down he\'s name and I used /say instead of /tell, so there is nothing in my log files either. And the name is actually not that important. My intention wasn\'t to point at a specific person, but rather to express my feelings about the common attitude in the game.
Maybe he tought I was talking to the tefusang and the tefusang of course didn\'t survive long enough to answer me? That explains everything :D
EDITED:
Explained the reason of the original post.

To avoid being challanged without any RP-reason, you can select the \'automatically decline all duels\' option, in the options menu. When you do want to duel somebody \'to settle a quarrel over a point of honor\' you can temporary turn it off again.
About non responding spam campers: Just ignore them and move on, I\'d say. Talking more probably won\'t change the situation and can only make you more frustrated. There are enough cool people around, don\'t waste too much energy on the 100% powerlevelers.

Ehhhh, if you want those types to talk to you -- just compete with them for a kill. Then they insult you... threaten to report you to \"mods\".... follow you around threatening to steal every kill you try for.... fun fun fun.
-
In situation one... I think he just had a little Grudge against the Tefusang, possibly they killed him many, many, many times when he was new. I mean otherwise he wouldn\'t be down there hitting 200+ on a Tefusang.... Period.

This is probably the best advice I have gotten so far :)). I will definitely turn this option on and if somebody wants to challenge me, he or she has to have an argument with me first.

Unfortunately there seem to be too many power-weapons in the wrong hands. This is from my log file (names removed):
(22:47:54) <...> says: can i have money for a guid i need 5000$
(22:49:22) <...> says: bleu: can i have 5000$more for a guild plz ani1 plz
(22:49:43) Bereror says: For which guild?
(22:49:54) <...> says: make 1
(22:50:08) Bereror says: Why would you want to make one?
(22:50:34) <...> says: i l invite you
(22:51:07) You tell <...>: What\'s good about your guild?
(22:51:28) <...> says: il give you stuf
(22:52:55) You tell <...>: So you give me stuff, what should I give you?
(22:53:15) <...> says: 5000$
(22:53:48) You tell <...>: If you have some stuff, why don\'t you sell it to me for 5000?
(22:54:12) <...> says: d you have the money
(22:54:46) You tell <...>: I may have, maybe not. Depends on your stuff.
On that moment he showed me two powerful swords that I could have gotten from he.
On another day a guy asked me to group and kill some monsters. He even didn\'t know where the sewers are, but was still making 50+ damage to rats with a sword he got from somebody as a \"gift\".

Anyway, on the subject of spawn camping: I came up with the idea to have rats \"spawn\" out of holes in the wall, consumers hatch out of eggs, etc. Basically, I want popup spawning to die... On the subject of challenge spam: I\'m dealing with it. Thus far, I\'ve managed to make is such that each decline bumps up the lockout time by 5 min, and on the third it\'ll punish the spammer (severely), and on the fourth they\'ll get kicked. I\'m working on making the penalty level save to the database, so spammers couldn\'t just relog, or even create a new character, to avoid the penalties. (the level can expire with time) I\'ll probably finish it soon, but it\'ll have to wait till the next server update to take effect.
-
50-60 damage is easy to do in the beginning. But if your hitting 100+ you have better things to do then sit in the sewers killing a tefusang that doesn\'t drop decent loot for that level.
40 slash short sword are fairly easy to come-by and are almost NEEDED to get out of the sewers and into the other places. I hand them out so people dont have to waste time down there, when they can explore and fight the bigger monsters like the Consumers and Trepors.

there are many nice players out there and as you sight you log so will i :)

I feel the players will not mind me using them as a example
:)

/me agrees with Janner (r.guppy).
Therefore, I joined him. I wanted to stay individual in general, but oppose to those selfish asassins.
But, please remind:
There is some \"invisibility\" bug. Occasionally, you cannot be seen or heard by other players. In this case, try to \"/unstick\" once, carefully. This may fix this issue temporarily.

Due to lag, often commands I send are sent multiple times to make up for packet loss. I\'ve lost duel points for spamming when I infact only sent out a single invite.
Just one flaw with the system.

They\'re needed for the arena, but with training you can do just fine in the tefusang field with basic weapons. Of course, you won\'t make money very fast.
-
needed? o.O
cannot pass without such and such equipment?
I think not.
you can go anywhere anytime in this world, your two feet are the only things oyu need to get there.
I\'ve had plenty of fun running around Trepor in the arena with no more then a standard falchion, and I still took it down.
I hate these over powered weapons, the ornated, gold and platinum weapons from way back we\'re a good enough upgrade from the standard weapons, should have left it at that
-
I have to agree what Keyaz said, power-weapons are not needed, at least not in a RPG like Planeshift.
Getting the most powerful equipment and training your skills to the highest level might be RP, but there should be a limit that, for example, you alone will never manage to kill a medium size monster, not talking about the most powerful ones.
Possible RP would be: training your skills, getting the best weapons money can buy, making a guild or joining one, making a plan together with your guild members and then going against the monster all together. Only half of you will come back, but they would be heroes because they saved the world.
Many may disagree with me, but becoming an unbeatable god (kind an ancient Greece type of god -- powerful but bored and has no idea with who could he fight next) is not exactly the RP how I understand it. It works in single-player games where that is the only available option.

Some of us live to become Immortal gods thank you very much. We need those power items TO RP. Without them would be kinda crappy. Its just the fact that they are too easy to come by I don\'t like. What would be cool is if, you had to like do a quest for the god\'s just to get one.
I RP to become the most powerful and to become undefeatable, to be the top with no one left to fight. Where theres nothing left to do but remove yourself from the mortal world.
Alot of people love to play for that reason alone, and with out it, alot of us have nothing to play for. Our goals are to become the best with the best and have the best, not the best availible but THE BEST. To be one of a kind, and to own one of a kind things is some of what I RP for. I hope that the DEVs give GM\'s abilities to grant normal players wishes like these. To have an Amulet that shoots golden arrows that deal \'blessed\' damage and it never runs out unless it falls into evil hands then it does \'unholy\' damage and shoots black arrows. Also when it falls into the hands of evil you have to deal so much damage every day with it otherwise it will be destroyed.
I live for uniqueness. It would suck if everyone was forced to use weak, \'normal\' weapons...

But there are plenty of single player RPGs that are specially built for this purpose. Why should a MMORPG used for the same?
I see a big difference between becoming the most powerful character and roleplaying with other players.
In a single player RPG you kill all the monsters, complete all the quests, get all the most powerful weapons, challenge gods, move mountains, and at the end reformat your hard disc because there is nothing else left to do :]

What would actually be unique is someone who does not need the best and does not try to be the best. Nothing is unique about doing something that almost the entire population is trying to do. Weapons and stats do not make a person/character unique it is only personality that sets you apart.

Is there a way to give a person some extra points/trias for the best post? :))

by Immortal god do you mean a GM, because buddy, you ain\'t gonna get there.
get bored after being the best and \'leave the mortal world\' eh... well why dont you cut out the time wasting and just kill yourself? job done!
your about as unique as a loo roll, summary = you\'re not unique.
normal weapons are not weak, in reality if i stab you in the face with a \'knife\' you die
if i stab you in the face with a \'Knife of jeebus +8 with fire hobo attack\' you die
there is no difference, the only improvement in realism you would get would come down to your skill and the weapon quality.
but even then, all the skill you may have, an arrow to your eye and your dead, it\'s players like this, whoi want \'ultimate power\' to \'be the best\' and \'have the pwnage wepz0r\' completely ruins everything this game stands for.
you know what i think. send us back to MB, the crystal hunt, sure! keep combat and pvp, I\'d like to see you try to kill an ulbernaut with a blunt ruby.

WOW, what an Ignorant post, and people say I have ignorant posts....
First thing, I don\'t or ever have really wanted to be a GM..
Second, When your at the top you have the sense of accomplishment, you and everyone else knows you are the best, and you can leave the world of the mortals with your title and then let the next person stand up to the challenge.
Third, I am unique.... Period, end of statement.
Forth, In real life, we don\'t have have 200 hp, in real life, we have weapons that kill you with one hit, so by your math, our normal weapons should be dealing MASSIVE amounts of damage.
Last, UBER PLAYERS DON\'T RUIN THE GAME. They make it A LOT more interesting. Because then you have FICTIONAL REALISM. Of a Hercules, or a Accilles (dont think I spelt his name right) with those, then we can make groups that quest to bring down such an opponent.
-
Uber weapons do ruin the dueling part of the game,Noobis you should stop calling yourselfe the best or whatever because their is no best everyone is equel as in real life.
-
Im not calling myself the best, I am saying I want to be the best get it right!
Also Uber weapons do not because you can have set ups like this..
Kran with build-
Weapon-
Tri-Elemental Longsword of Vileness
40-Ice damage
40-Fire damage
40-Earth damage
20 poison damage over two seconds
Shield-
Mirror dragon scale of Fire absorbion
Reflects Light Spells
Absorbs 20% of Fire damage
Armor-
Black Full Plate of Shadows
Invisable while in shadows
You make no sound while moving
+5 Dark Way
You take 30% more damage from light spells
Absorbs 70% of Dark and Evil Damage
While against:
Diaboli with build-
Weapon-
Stonebreaker Maul(unique)
70% more damage versus Kran
40% enhanced damage
30% of damage dealt is Earth damage
Armor-
Leather Armor of Elemental Absorbion
70% less damage from Elemental attacks
Head-
Crown of thorns(unique)-
You are dealt one damage every 20 seconds
200% of damage dealt to you is returned
___________________________________________
Now a battle between them two... Who do you think will win?
Thats why uber weapons are a good thing.

I\'m afraid I have to disagree on what you write here, here the reasons what make me think this:
1. This is not the real world so differences should be made.
2. The most fun way is to be able to do what you like the most yourself so if you want to go kill those monsters by fighting instead of the -for 50% of the people believe me I\'m a retarded gamer- boring smithing skills, then you should be able to do so.
3. You would be way much more of a hero if you would be able to kill a monster like this without weaponry, correction you would be a god-like one.
One thing I must say, on the other hand it should be possible to create such strong weaponry that you can kill the strongest of all monsters with it at a low level.
-
Whatever happens with fighting, it should be fun and encourage working together.
Whatever happens with smithing, it should be fun and encourage a player based economy.
People should be encouraged to specialize in their field however. I don\'t think it should be easy to be a good ______, let alone a great one.

Which is exactly the problem with the current weapon system. It\'s too easy to be a great warrior, because there are way too many ultra-powerful weapons about.
I don\'t think that super-weapons are the problem, I think that an over-abundance of super-weapons are the problem. I think that there should be 50-slash, even 100-slash, weapons. But there should be only a few of them, they should be very hard to get, and once they have been found, there should be no more. This should solve the problem. Those who wish to become all-powerful would have the opportunity to do so. Those who wish to challenge for the title of \"Ultimate Champion\" could do so, with an appropriately limited number of contenders for the title. And those who care not for extreme physical prowess wouldn\'t have to bother with listening to endless discussions on the subject.
-
Right, these are the suggestions that myself and others have made which I agree with:
Make fire/dark/frosty very rare. Further, make such weapons sell for a considerable amount at Harniquist. That way, people won\'t just give them away unless as a meaningful gift.
Make basic weapons and poor-condition weapons sell for far less to harniquist, perhaps 1/4 or 1/5 of their price new. For example, a shortsword can be bought from Harniquist for 200 trias, but Harniquist might only give 40 trias to a player for one. This will further encourage a player based economy, especially crafting once it\'s in the game.
Allow for chance operations leading to weapons with slash 100-300. There are a few 300 slash weapons in existence already, but they are highly rare. Once fire/dark/frosty weapons are more rare, 100-300 slash weapons will just naturally become even rarer.
Give weapons a bonus hit to unarmoured people. If you aren\'t wearing leather or plate armour, and if you don\'t have the advantage of a tough hide, then perhaps a 1 hit kill from a basic longsword is realistic.
Make weapons skill less of a factor on damage. Instead, make weapons skill more important to accuracy and parying. That is, make characters hit less often but for more damage.
Power weapons will be rarer after the wipe. I think that changes to the fighting system might be coming too... the real change will be crafting. Until crafting is in the game, I\'m ready to sit back and wait before expecting any major changes. That\'s not to say I won\'t be vocal about changes in the game, since I tend to be vocal about pretty much everything else anyway.

Penalties will now only be for declines, so this problem will only happen if the packet idiocies think someone declined twice in a row. (still possible, but less likely)
The new penalty system should take effect after the next server update.
