Greetings Lords and Ladies in your high seats. Greetings fellow adventurers and seekers. Greetings brothers and sisters of the Guild Knights. My name is Askr Folkwarder, Blue Knight of the Guild Knights, I stand before you with a tale of bravery, daring and a bit of foolishness.
The evening was cool and the sky was a bright, perhaps a bit brighter than normal. The Lady Gudrun Duathal and I were in good spirits, earlier that evening we had completed our apprenticeship in the Guild Knights and been promoted to the rank of Knight. I had decided to make the long journey to Akkaio to tell my good friend Trasok Starhammer the good news. He has been a great help in assisting me in my journeys through out Yliakum, teaching me the finer techniques of strength training and now sword training since I had graduated beyond the teachings of Percival in Hydlaa. Gudrun and I moved cautiously along the road to Akkaio avoiding the occasional beast, but even more wary of the wandering bands of rogues, bandits and brigands that lie in ambush. We made the journey without incident and bursting with excitement I told Trasok of my and Gudrun?s promotion. He was very pleased with the news and kindly reminded me that I would have to keep my training up. Even though we are good friends, he is still a business man and will gladly try to sale me something any chance he can get. Laughing I agreed with him and noticed that he seemed to have raised the price of my training ever so slightly.
It was during my sword training that Narcal Burningblade, the new Knight Avatar of Guild Knights, issued his challenge. He informed all guild members that he was waiting in the Realm of Death for someone strong and brave enough to do battle with him. My interest was piqued though I knew that I stood no chance of defeating such an experienced and veteran Knight. After finishing our training, Lady Gudrun and I, left Akkaio joking about answering the Knight Avatar?s challenge. Our excitement and mirth proved to be our undoing for outside the gates two rogues were waiting for us. We quickly ended the life of one of the rogues, but the other, obviously the leader, was skilled in the arts of invisibility and bending space to his will. He proved to be a most skilled opponent and quickly sent us to meet the new Knight Avatar.
Standing upon the bridge I was immediately aware that no other Guild Knight had answered the challenge presented before them. Riding the excitement of my recent promotion and suffering the indignation of my recent defeat at the hands of such a sinister rogue, I decided to tempt fate further. I determined to demonstrate my courage and honor and be the first to step up and accept the challenge. As I stood upon the bridge, wind pressing my face and filling my nostrils with the scent of decay, I realized how futile my attempts were. Before me stood a great warrior, exuding confidence and skill and waiting for some brave Guild Knight to answer his call. As I accepted the challenge, our great leader, Master Sirunie Looseye informed the Guild that he would reward the first Knight who could defeat his second in command.
With great pride I charged forward, weapons ready and was brought to my knees by one sweep of Narcal?s sword. Demonstrating his nobility, he gave me time to recover. Other Guild Knights had heard that I was accepting his challenge and joined us on the bridge, some to watch, others to do battle. Guild Knight after Guild Knight fell by those graceful swords and I, myself, was one of them. But luck had not abandoned me, and fate had not yet tied her threads. Upon my third attempt, I finally was able to defeat the great warrior. The cavern echoed with my cries of victory. The words of praise from my comrades were like waves of ecstasy washing over me. My victory was a great shock, the youngest member of the Guild Knights defeating the second in command in single combat. We battled many more times and I was defeated more than I was victorious. But, I did defeat him again and brought him to his knees once more before I fell by his swords. On this night, the night of my promotion to Knight, I was awarded with the recognition as the Champion of the Duels. Both Narcal Burningblade and Sirunie Looseye praised and rewarded me for my demonstration of bravery, honor and skill. I have been given a great experience, one that I will remember for all my years to come. But most importantly, the nobility of Narcal Burningblade and Sirunie Looseye have solidified my respect for them and for our great guild.
Thank you to my audience for lending me your time. I hope you find the telling of the deed as exciting as I found performing the deed to be.
-
Narcal, honourable? Ha. In war, he killed me in peacful territory as I stepped towards Harniquist. No sooner had I waved my hand to the smithy in greeting than I felt the hot rush of blood escape through the mortal wound Narcal had inflicted upon me from behind.
Perhaps he has changed his ways as much as he has also changed his name.

It is not my way to speak ill of another, but I have had my brushes with guilds in the past and will tell you now why the Guild Knights is one like those that turned me against guilds so many years ago after my daughter was struck down never to make a full recovery.
Master Sirunie Looseye, leader of the Guild Knights, may often be found in Hydlaa Plaza dueling, or lately standing for hours as if in a trance. Now as all the good people of Yliakum know, duelling in the Plaza is forbidden, but Sirunie Looseye and others ignore the law and challenge any citizen as long as they can get away with it.
And as for the Narcal Burningblade, the new Knight Avatar of Guild Knights, I will now relate to you a story of our meeting. I was in the plaza one sunny day and saw the fellow challenging one and all to duel with him just like his master. I approached him and spoke to him;
\"No fighting here\"
Narcal replied \"you care for a duel?\"
I told him \"with fist but not here\"
Narcal declined; \"melee sorry\"
Me thinks, if he was as good as he claims, he would not back down from his own challenge whatever the reason. A good knight should be able to fight with at least his fists, as in battle ones weapon may be lost or indeed broken. So I leave this tale open ended for you all to draw your own conclusions. :)

The Guild Knights are revered to some as the greatest guild in Yliakum...Revered to others as ignorant people....
Really though, they call themselves honorable, and say they will protect others...Instead, they run away when they challenge people to duels and try to strike from behind, and they are always dueling others or in a war every 2 seconds. Also, Sirunie is arrogant, always saying hes a better duelist, and rambling on about his great power...The only thing true about him is that he strikes from behind and starts jumping on the corpse...

I have heard many interesting comments. Though I\'m not sure whether there are any grounds for such comments or whether those who have made them can honestly do so; it seems to me that to disavow someone\'s honor through dishonorable means is a bit untrustworthy. Of the three who made comment, Janner is the only I am familiar with. For his part he has been quite helpful in the past, though I must question his intentions to turn a tale of mine into an opportunity to air his personal beliefs. Nonetheless, comments are comments and perhaps they are best left at that.
Concerning the actions of Sirunie and Narcal, I cannot comment for them, but I have yet to hear them speak or behave in any way that resembles what has been mentioned here by others. I can only attribute that to the past and perhaps my newness. Though I can say with all honesty and with complete surety that what I have seen would prove these comments to be lies.
Janner, my comment to you is this, as with all people, Knights are at their best when in their own environment. Whether that environment is on the battlefield in full armor and regalia or in the tavern relating tales to close friends is a matter of preference to the individual. Sometimes you must step into their world, sometimes they into yours, but neither of you is required to forgo your own for the other. If you chose melee combat, but Narcal chose weapons, what is the shame in his preferring his methods to yours? There is no law that states that any one person must appeal to your sense of honor.
Shalmanesar to you I must question your reasoning for running to a peaceful location in the middle of a war? Were you afraid? Did you realize you were outmatched? Or perhaps you just wanted to leave your brothers to die upon the battlefield while you ran to a safer location? Honestly, I do not know, but this does not speak of the actions of one who can pass judgment upon another\'s respect for his leaders.

I think you have me and Mitaki confused with Sirunie.... being the arrogent bragging duelists.
I duel Sirunie and Narcal often, we meet in the Realm of Death for Endless fighting. Oh the joy of fighting even after death!
As for fighting in area\'s of peace? I love to fight in those areas, they have the most things to play on! Not like other places, where your stuck in fighting either on flat land, or a small tunnel. Most people say to duel in the Arena, but thats worse. Its a building OF small tunnels.
But Sirunie being the bragging type? I don\'t think he has ever once bragged to me about his skills....
-
To you sir i say this if a true knight you be you would no that he issued a challenge which i excepted, under the long established code of conduct for such a affair i have the right to chose weapons, or are you saying your guild has changed these rules to soot yourself , and i further state i will produce logs to confirm what i say if you so desire.
-
Janner, good sir, I have no doubt that you are aware that codes of conduct only apply if they are agreed upon by both parties. A Knight need only adhere to and uphold the codes of conduct set before him by his Creed and his People. The creeds and beliefs of other people need not, nor should they, be a defining or accepted point for the Knight. To believe that your rules apply to another without agreement is a bit naive and in combat most definitely foolish.
I hope, sir, that you are not questioning my own honor. It should be most apparent that I have given the greatest of courtesies to those who are less than willing to do the same. I have also insisted on showing respect to those who were and are in attendance.
I find it most intriguing that you sit here and argue the points of knighthood and demean the name of two guild leaders with your companions. It would be more appropriate to take your issue up with Narcal and Sirunie, particularly when honor and code of conduct is being addressed. It seems a bit underhanded to me, to condemn one for disregard of honor and code of conduct when you are quick to do so yourself.
You need not produce any to speak on your behalf {OOC: the logs you offered} because you have not presented your case first to Sirunie and Narcal so that they may produce others to speak on their behalf. Without such a courtesy your accomplices would hold little weight with me. Of course that is the custom from my people, and it is what I abide by and I would not expect the same of you unless you were in my house.

lol
I was heading back to harniquist after killing all the guild knights who had the bad luck of being in the arena. :) Thilele however was waiting behind a blind corner as I approached Harniquist\'s shop. He ran up and killed me as I walked on peaceful grounds. Case closed.
[OOC: Not only did Thilele break the rules of the war, but the GMs were really pissed about all the guild knights fighting in the plaza. Bobus was the one on duty when Thilele was doing his bit of business. Sirunie ended up kicking out a lot of players because of the whole thing -- people just weren\'t following the rules Sirunie and the GMs were laying down. Thilele is a good guy, but he broke these rules.]

These doings were before my time, but from my interaction with the leaders of the Guild Knights I have found them to be far from dishonorable. I have yet to meet all of my fellow Knights, so it is possible that there will be those that I do not agree with. But, then again, I do not expect to find mirror images of myself when I walk into the guild hall. As for Thilele, I know not of this individual and cannot attest to his character.

Destroy them all! Thats what I say! lol
Actually alot of the Guild Knights were breaking rules other then just fighting in the plaza, I think that rule can be omitted.
They were harassing players with foul language and other things. Not only that, but when some of them lost duels they would complain about it something else.
When I told Sirunie of what happened, he didn\'t even know about it. All the mass recruiting they did caused the Corruption. But over all Sirunie is a decent duelist and person. But he doesn\'t always pay attention what is going on in his own guild, his reason I don\'t know.
Narcal, I have dueled him too, he is a fair duelist as well.
But there are alot of GK who were probably already kicked or scolded on the matter. So things should be looking better for them now.
As for being blind attacked in the plaza... HOW do you get attacked blindly? Do you auto accept every duel? If so, the attack in the plaza was at your own fault. Its just like walking to an NPC outside of the plaza and a random monster killing you. Its at your own fault. Because even in the plaza sometimes are monsters. So the rule against dueling there should be omitted.
-
i do not no you and i do not question your honer but i fell it is my duty to point out to you and all how listen that the code for duels other than guild wars is standard to all.
If a challenge is given then according to long ad-eared to rules stat he how is challenged stats time and place and means of fight.
For to long this made killing under the guise of duels has gone on, it must stop and return to what it was intended for or will be lost for ever.
As i dar speck my mind as to what i see your Knight Avatar of Guild Knights response on my return to plaza was to ask if i wanted a guild war

It was a guild war. Guild war = open PVP for those involved.
BTW, the guild knights have been infiltrated by the dragon council. A few spies have been caught so far, but I would have no surprise if some of the trouble makers turned out to be planted by the DC.

No. In an RPG, we need to be able to kill eachother for reasons of both good and evil. People die in ways other than just duels. That\'s why the present system of closed PVP needs to be replaced IMO. I believe that we should have a more open PVP, but there should be harsh consequences for murderers. For instance, if you want to force someone into a duel, you can use a /murder command. The drawback: Everyone in the area gets a notice saying that you\'re trying to murder such and such, and they all get a shot at killing you.

I like the idea of murders ;)

I do not think the length of time matters so much as the amount of interaction. I have been actively involved in my guild and have had numerous occasion to observe the actions and words of my leaders. But, as I am sure you are going to suggest, time will tell. Nonetheless, it does not change the fact that up until this point there has been little to support the statements of those who prefer to talk about others when they are not present to defend themselves.
-
Your anger is unfounded sir. It is quite obvious that you are under false impression. There are no universal codes of conduct that all adhere to. If that were the case we would have no thugs, rogues, bandits, brigandes or any other types who pray upon the fear, weakness or power of others. Likewise, there would be no differentiation between groups of people, no need for different guilds upholding different ideals. But as is blatantly obvious, there are many who hold different views of proper conduct in any given situation. This applies to duels as well. For some people to duel with anything other than staffs is improper. For others, there are no rules so long as there is victory for one side.
To complain of the outcome of duels being death seems a bit naive. What other outcome would you propose? Perhaps we should forgo the honor of duels and play dice instead? Where is the honor in that? Where is the honor in besting your opponent with dice?
Should I be offended because the Knight Avatar speaks his mind as well? Or perhaps you feel you are the only one who deserves an opinion on the subject? It seems you believe your ideas of proper conduct, honor, and nobility should be the customs of all. Is this how you feel about thoughts as well? Should all who come before you relinquish their hold on their own minds so that you may fill their heads and hearts with your own thoughts, beliefs, and ideals? I think not, good sir, because that would be bordering on the corruptive and destructive influences of the evils in our great Realm.
-
I am not angered but saddened to think your idea of a gentleman\'s fight is nothing more than excuse to kill and call it honer , no i do not impose my way on others i just stat what i think is a duel
-
Again you are assuming that I or anyone else must agree with you upon what makes a gentleman. Dueling has not always been a gentleman\'s fight. For some it was the only way to settle a dispute. The gods work their will through the combatants, the fates would spin their threads, and the two individuals at dispute would fight to the death. The only attrition granted to the loser was death, while the survivor was honored for being just, true, right, or however would best describe the victor in the dispute. There was never made mention of the individual\'s character, personality, flaws, or any other such trait except in the ballads recited afterwords.
Beyond this you have those battles that were waged as a test. Duelling to determine who was the best leader, who was the strongest warrior, who alone could walk with his head held high because he stood alone upon the field of battle while his opponents were carried away in carts. There would be honor on both sides. To die in battle alongside your kinsmen is the greatest honor, the greatest demonstration of nobility, one can have. Likewise, to defeat those who come against you and be the sole bearer of victory for your People and Creed is the greatest honor you can pay to your Ancestors and Descendants.
But what does character have to do with this? Nothing. Even the peasantry die for their causes. Even the lowliest of thralls can die in a fight for freedom, justice, truth and/or honor. Duelling is not solely for the gentleman.
Great ballads and sagas are not told of those who fought no battles, whether it was a battle of mind, wits or upon the fields of honor. These legends and tales are left to those who are beyond the confines of the average individual in some way.
And frankly, you have not reserved your statements to the limits of what you think is a duel, but instead attempted to define such according to what you think is right and just. Tradition and law are upheld by the lawful. To take a neutral stance on such things is to be aware that your thoughts or opinions should never be used to influence others.
