an old man walks in, leaning heavily on his cane. he takes an old gaunlet from from his coat. he holds it momentarily at arms length. his arm quivers with the effort. he drops it. it hits the floor with a clatter and rolls slightly. the inlays of gold and platinum can be faintly seen in the dark iron.
\"all you who tell us stories,\" he says. \"i lay this challenge at your feet. tell us your best, we the people will decide the rest.\"
he turns around, and leaves.
much good karma to moogie for originally thinking of this idea (http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=4685&boardid=13) way back when.
the guidelines:
1. roughly 2000 words max. can be much less, but not to much more.
2. ps settings
3. postmarked no later then midnight (local time) nov 30, 2005
4. one entry per person, if you come up with a better one the previous entry can be withdrawn.
5. original works only. to keep things even.
6. a) submit works to steuben viscosa (steuben.viscosa@sympatico.ca) with \"ps open challenge\" in the subject line
b) include title, and forum name.
7. it should be able to get a pg rating. no foul language, no sex, no nudity, pre-9 pm prime time kind of stuff.
8. no prizes. fame and glory to the best three. just fame to everybody else.
9. selection will be done by popular vote, by forum members, from 11am (est) dec 1 to 12:00 am (est) dec 15.
10. anything else as needs must.
post or pm to discuss.

i will write. 2000 words may be a crunch, but i\'ll manage.

Why no one temp sticked this? :|
I\'ll write something, I guess...
-
28 days left and only two confirmed competiors. perhaps things will pick up in the next few days.
-
I have a question about the first rule. It says not much more than 2000 words. I suppose 2019 is all right, right?
-
2019 will work well. its one of those soft limits.
-
All right, the story was sent. How many contestants are there curently?
-
excellent. i look forward to seeing it in my inbox this morning.
the running appears to still be a free for all. but as thing close in i\'m hoping for a good race.
-
two weeks. two weeks left. i\'m looking for a competition here.
if this is your first time for such things. give it a try. we always welcome fresh faces.
-
comeon Farren, you can win, just put in a lot of fight scenes :)
-
Can I post something I posted here along time ago?
-
sorry. no. but, if anything new that you write is of equivalent quality to the piece that you sent, you should do well.
-
correction - I posted a story in this forum a long time ago - I had recently changed it and brushed it up, and was going to post it here but I sent it to you already... so if its unacceptable that a version of that story I emaild you origionally appeared in a long lost thread then let me know and I will write a new one.
-
I think this rule was made so that people would write the stories within the contest border. As in within a set time and such. So that one person won\'t spend several months writing it, while other only two weeks.
I could be wrong though.
-
*nods*
pretty much.
besides fresh works are usually better than ones that you are just brushing the dust off of.
-
I cant say for sure as my schedule is quite tight, and I aint as talented as most of the others, but at least it would give me some reason to write again, ...
yeah I will probably make a contributition..
-
*begins writing frantically now that he has a computer that actually works*
-
/me is glad he writes stuff out long hand first... that is unless you\'re transcribing it to comp form.
-
Both. I had half written on paper, the other half is still in my head and shall go straight to the keyboard.
Either way, I write very slow. :P
How many hours left? xD
-
it\'s midnight local. so as i do a quick calculation, against known information, about 8 hours or so
-
The words have been cast upon the wind.
-
Apparently this thing is getting late... Any idea when it\'ll move on?
