I have heard rumours on here and #planeshift that a new version may be released soon(tm), so I would like to make a request that the release is delayed until all the versions for all platforms are ready as I get really antsy without my daily fix :) and the delays between win and linux/mac releases seem to get longer with every update.
-
I believe the stock response to that on #planeshift is \"/me pokes lanser with CVS\"
-
my stock response is tried that and can\'t get it to compile :)
*then get ignored

Well, I can surely help you get things built. Building packages distrobution is surely not my strong point. One of the main issues left to resolve is to get the linux updater updating itself. That should not be too hard a task but somebody needs to do it. Building from CVS is probably the absolute best way though and it\'s not that complicated ( after a while ).
-
Linux binaries will be released at the same time as the windows are. As acraig said, updater support isn\'t totally there yet, but it will be soon I hope. I\'m currently experimenting with a new kind of binary to help make the update process much easier for linux people, and will use it in the next update if I can get it working properly.

Xordan: Good to know - thanks for your efforts!
Acraig: I\'ve spent time in planeshift-build channel with no results, I always get the same troubles compiling from source - No psclient binaries, and crystalspace problems - i.e. no igraphics plugins errors both 2d and 3d - as well as freetype2 errors. These have been consistant through the last 4 months or so, but people on psbuild tell me that its just a problem with the cvs versions I\'m compiling - except that others can compile them....
Also, given that PS is ansi standard thus letting it be cross platform (correct me if I\'m wrong) how hard would it be to compile in ming32 ? Thus one could compile for both windows and linux from one machine - also I just want to be able to compile for windows from my computer for some of my guidmates - is this conceivable at all?
-
I believe Jorrit compiles using ming32 so it\'s possible but I have no idea of what is involved with that.
-
I\'ve said it before and (as it seems) I\'ll say it again: Binaries are nice and all, but if you want PS to come into any respectful repersitory you have to provide people with working, stable source - most (if not all) distributions won\'t want to hear anything about CVS.
p.s. @acraig: lol, i can never get enough of your sig.
-
Xordan is also working on the stuff to generate the tar balls.

Using MinGW to compile for linux?? 8o Well, besides the fact that crosscompiling like that is very difficult, and that the version of GCC for minGW is not as recent as what you can get for any linux distrobustion, oh, and the fact that I\'m pretty sure you can\'t link to openGL/X stuff from windows.... It\' much much easier to just keep doing what already works :)
Sorry if -build hasn\'t been able to give you any answers- it must be the timezones. I try to be as active as possible, so I likely tried to give you an answer, but maybe it will work better this time :) The freeze date for CS/cel was moved up as you might have seen, that should fix a lot of old problems.
