Title: Klyros description and zoology :)
Post by: oscar on October 11, 2005, 03:11:02 pm
\"Their skin is similar to reptiles, being slimy and cold, and varies from gray-green to steel dark blue.\"

Reptiles have dry and cool skin. It\'s not at all slimy. Most prominent examples being geckos, lizards, snakes.

I thought it may be worth correcting.
Amphibiants are the ones with slimy skin (frogs, salamanders, newts).

so you are telling me that klyros walk around with slimey skin?

...that is so eww!

i never read all the race descriptions before, none of the other races really appealed to me in any way that i can see because it is a well known fact that elves are the coolest.

Either slimy or not.
Depends what part of the description will be kept if corrected :)

Either slimy or reptile like.

This discrepancy has been pointed out some times before. Judging from the skin of the model, it is scaley, not slimey (doesn\'t reflect), so I assume the reptile part will be kept.

If the skin is going to be slimey, this will have some implications on content:
Taverns need to have provisions for wet sheets so that Klyros won\'t be drained dry when sleeping there, and also would they depend on environmental moisture quite a lot in other respects as well, which, however, wouldn\'t fit in too well with the movement in air part, as water = weight and air = open space = dry.

It may turn out that Kran are the coolest. After all, their body temperature may very well be below the one of the carbon-based creatures. :P

I remember that someone pointed this out back in Molecular Blue, and nothing as been done to correct this. Way to prove you don\'t pay attention to us!

Their land air and sea nature suggests an amphibian-like definition.

1. Nothing prevents the developers from defining new terminology. Though personally, I would not find that satisfying.

2. Amphibians (mostly) cannot breathe underwater. They lay their eggs in water and their larvae can, but lose this ability in adulthood.

3. In my opinion the race descriptions refer to their natural habitat. Therefore, the description of \"slimy skin\" would refer to the mud of the swamp-like habitat from which they arrived.
There can be another take on this: a racial slur. When the Klyos first arrived, the other inhabitants would not be supportive of such filth, and would use it as derogatry.
In my opinion, exposure to must would probably to remove skin parasites, such as elephants and hippos.
