not sure what to call it, exactly ...but if I am in the warehouse, playing with the ratties ...and one of them is nibbling on my toes (and the one doing the nibbling happens to be doing so stealthily from across the room) ...would be kind of nice to have the option to counter attack without having to search for the silly thing

I wouldn\'t like to see an automated defense feature at all. If you ask me fighting is already boring enough as it is and you want to let people fight without even doing a single thing.
I do understand your problem though, it is due to lag, lag that will hopefully disappear in the near future. Lately the combat lag is getting very bad. Damage being dealt a while after you clicked attack, dead creatures hitting you back, creatures dying a long time after you landed the killing blow, ... not to even speak of the very irritating lag on your own health bar so sometimes it jumps from full to almost zero and you don\'t even see it coming.
I\'m sure those problems will be fixed though and there is no need for any automated defence feature.

I think he meant somethink like possiblity to target a thing which is currently attacking you eg /target_next_attackingme_npc.
But the reason why i post is different =P
I believe I have seen somewhere in CVS that if a monster attacks you, your stance is set automatically to full defence and i think it was before this update what was some time ago for win. The problem is, i don\'t see it to be working. I dodge a lot more if i target the little bugger and attack on full defence manually.
It would be good to have somethink like that as it often happen that a char stops attaking because of random laggy reason/dont start attaking because of graphical or net lag and such.
-
If he wants a command to target the nearest NPC, since the nearest ones are the ones attacking you, well that already exists and is by default in the shortcut bar.
I still don\'t think we should defend automatically ... half an hour ago I got send to the Death Realm by a rogue that snuck up on me while I wasn\'t paying attention, since I had a browser window open on top of the game. It was my own fault that I died, had I been paying attention I could have easily ran away or even fought back.
I don\'t think lag is an excuse to implement something like this in the future because this lag should be gone mostly in the future. So outside of lag you would only get attacked and killed when not paying attention. This shouldn\'t be avoided at all.
I would like to see smarter creatures like Rogues attempt to sneak up on people who are mining or similar things. If we go in full defense mode automatically that becomes a bit hard.
What could be possible is that if your character sees the enemy approach, if it is in visual range, then you switch to full defence automatically. When a monster approaches from behind this shouldn\'t happen though. Course this solution is a bit harder and also not really needed if you ask me.
If you aren\'t paying attention or coming in close proximity of creatures that can kill you quickly at the moment it is your own fault if you die.

I wasn\'t suggesting the character initiating any actions without direct manipulation of the player. I was simply wondering if it was possible to know which of the ravening little beasties was nibbling ...because my toes are well-nibbled. Targeting might be nice ...but I guess it could be a booger if you could be attacked by more than one monster at a time (...can you?). I don\'t reccomend having the character initiate combat, because it could lead to AFK training.
oh well ...thanks for putting up with my ramble

You can be attacked by more than one monster at a time yes and there is a command to target the nearest creature: /target_next_nearest_npc. This will target the nearest creature, then the next one and so on. Since you can only be attacked by something close to you (even though graphical lag may make it seem they are still far off but they are actually close) this should do the trick.
Like I said above .. you can find that command by default in your shortcut list.

No, because then you\'d potentially have a bot. Since there isn\'t a /loot_all command that I know of, and since there isn\'t a way to program in a delay between different commands that I know if, then all you\'d get out of it would be progression points and practice points.

It is what fully satisfies me, it would also convince people to attack enemy having him in front. The only problem is this feature isn\'t important enough to be high on priority ladder.

The /target_next_nearest_npc command is good, but not perfect. It often fails especialy when many enemies are around.
It is another not-so-important thing to look at.
And i think you meant normal lag =P graphical lag causes the game to freeze for periods of time only, it is generate lower FPS.

ah well, if it is only lag ...and the lag will be less later ...I can wait

Right now, when you\'re attacked you automatically go into full defense mode (defending only; no attacking). That\'s pretty much as it should be, in my opinion.

Bah, read my first post in this topic =P

I tested on the same clacker and where in first case it hit me numerous times for around 8.00 dmg, in second case it hurt me only onve for 0.71 dmg
You mean\'t somethink else, or you are completly wrong. If so, it is a bug to fix x]

I also would appreciate some auto-defense. Especially when by bug the enemy turns invisible, your Character stops attacking. Then there is no defense at all, which makes for a rather fast death normally. At least the armor skill should be considered when the damage is calculated.
Just my opinion ...
-
Well sure, if you weren\'t paying attention and died that was your fault, but in real life if someone stabbed you in the arm I don\'t think you would be too preoccupied with your book to notice..
And if a giant rat bit your toes off you wouldn\'t be to preoccupied with sharpening your sword to notice..
-
paying attention isn\'t same in ps and real. In PS you can think you attack enemy, but in fact, some random error occures in the procedure and you wait for your blow which will never come. After you realize that, you attack again and hope, this time it will work. If one can\'t attack npc, which he/she have obviously noticed, then she/he would hope for some defence instead.
And you stop attack because of simple problems, like when client untarget the npc because of lag/bug or simple click by mistake.
Bugs will be fixed... someday, but some problems persist.
Now, i\'m not exactly sure what do you mean Neryam, but i hope, i got it right =P correct me if i don\'t
bah x], there was propositions to have this only when you are faced to npc. Comment at least that if you mark auto full defence as completly bad idea.
Of course you are right Neryam, but only in some situations, not all.
