Title: Sep's Drawings
Post by: seperot on October 11, 2005, 09:24:13 pm: Since my artwork has managed to just get above that of the Great acraig\'s library rendering i feel its time i show my drawings from here on out to the fireing squad so i can have \"constructive\" words so i can improve :)

with that i present my first piccy...

on an odd OT comment: Lolitra, Celorrim Purrty Twins, Are you roleplaying 2 different people or one person with split personallitys? either way it seems kinda cool

I might note that when they say everything is composed of shapes, \'they\' are correct. Try thinking spatially, picturing in your mind the object you are drawing.
That, and references are very nice.

Then again, I tend to spend 30-40 minutes in the preliminary stages of a drawing correcting proportions and shaping the initial work, so I\'m rather on the heavy end of the spectrum.
...and re-drawing eyes, noses, etc 3 or 4 times on occasion. :P

but on a different point... a tablet pen is different to a mouse how? :o
anyways im now experimanting with using basic shapes to make an outline first see if that can give me more perspective :)

I do sometimes, sketch art in paint, with a mouse. Randomly scribbling lines to form a shape, then working over and over from that, doing what I can to make a picture. Like this (http://www.freewebs.com/bloodwolfen/drawingcrazy3.JPG) one.

alot of the things in this were unintentional, and just made through uncoincious thoughts. You can see things in the drawing that look unusal if not intentional. One being the lip scar. This was a style drawing.

Personally, I like the style of his art. I think if he doesn\'t spend too, much time drawing a single thing he should try drawing more like it. Also if he has a passion for drawing, then he should get into the more technical styling. But if your only drawing passion is your own style, then someone shouldn\'t critize on it not being technically right.

To be technical about it, those swords wouldn\'t be good for cutting, the top one would break things more then cut them. The blade is heavy and curved wrong, then smaller one, the blade is too jagged and curved too far. To use such a weapon would take mastering a new, own style, perfectly designed for the use of the sword.

While I\'d like to agree to an extent, I\'d also like to disagree. For example: learning to shade in black and white should definitely be first to color. Anatomy should be first to costume design. Perspective should be first to detail.

Unless of course an artist wants to scrap a realistic style and go for something more stylized, or abstract. But there are definitely first steps that must be taken before moving to something more advanced.

In Sep\'s defense, there are a ton of artists who aren\'t comfortable with pencil-paper drawing at all, and do amazing stuff with digital paintings. A tablet and a pencil are completely different things, no matter how similar they may be.

i dont know why people say you shouldn\'t draw digital unless you know how, sometimes i find the amateur work like this better then thet CG work people like comic artist make. its fun!

Personally I wish I could find my own style like that. I don\'t really have a drawing style expect with my mouse it allows me a style.

But those drawings, if he can make something like a comic strip with it, that would be freaking awesome. They are cool, they are not eye straining to look at :P and they are interesting.

But knowing how to draw in \'realism\' isn\'t actually a good way to consider yourself an artist. But being able to draw your perspective of realism is. To draw what is in your mind exactly the way you see it and want it, that is art.

Damned, and i would have gotten away with it too if it wasent for you meddiling kids :P

To be fair different drawings depict enki\'s in different ways. Karryu draws enki\'s with just fur and bikini stuff, moogie draws them with full clothing and hair, and some strange people draw them nude. so while it may be totally inaccurate for ingame it\'s fine for here..

Hopes that saves the day >.>

edit: Oh and according to Sep\'s story he was kept as a kind of pet. He adapted to human style not to say he was accepted in it :P

Can you do Narure, a menki? He has a captain jack stlye pirate hat and a nice black cape. White fur. Ummm dont care what hes up to, but if you have to have an idea, holding a dwarf in the air with a dagger to his throat in a back ally would suffice.

I made it a different way then i used to make it ... i kinda like it but tell me for the improvments of that stage of development :)

Also Sep's face... enki faces in general have become somewhat of a problem for me to put together... been looking at cats too much and it bothers my perspective somewhat :/

Post by: Quitarias on June 03, 2007, 05:49:32 pm: A few tips on your Katana.That thing would break to a decent stick.Too bent and too thin.Unless its made of something stronger and about the same weight as titanium then you should draw it a bit difrent.
My advice would be drawing it stronger at the start.Also make the hilt biger so its seem more or less the same.And a katana that lenght would weigh a LOT.Maybe shorten it or give it a longer hilt so it would be a Dai-Katana.
Just my few tips.Other than that you just need practice.

If you make the center of gravity be where the person's hand is, meaning where the weight is equal on both sides of their hand, it would be as easy to move the thing as hold it. Though about everything else they are right :) Tis a bit long, and you bent it forward first before giving it a curve, and gave too much of a curve in any case.

Look at lots of cat photos, and at the same time stylized art like that of Lackadaisy (http://www.lackadaisycats.com/) (<3) for example - very cool range of expressions on those characters, and it might be a big help :D

Now this arm.. i want it to look like he is looking at his fingers in a clenched hand sorta way... now my problem comes in the fact i cant make the arm look right with clothing... it tends to look like i just glued it on or something.

secondly i cant get the damn hand to look right i know it needs the knuckels shown from that perspective and not the fingertips but its just not coming together :P

also i realy want to do this drawing... its far better then the previous one i did >.>
