I got 2 scorched daggers recently from a really nice woman and ever since ive been wooping every monster i come across. Are scorched daggers super good? put your thoughts about different weapons in.
-
Do not rely on weapons.
Build up your stats (Strength, Agility, Endurance) and skills (Sword, Dagger, Axe, Light armor). Then even normal weapons will be enough to win a fight.
Discussions about \"super weapons\"... how many do we already have?
-
yeah but before i got them i would die against a fanatic, now i beat them in 2 hits
-
Scortched weapons are ten times as powerful as their normal counterparts. Weapons which are twenty times as powerful are actually more common since people stockpile them....
-
Then try an Ulbernaut next time - this may be a suitable challenge for such a super fighter like you. ;)
In fact - I doubt that you will survive an arena mercenary that way.
-
It isn\'t wise to rely on good weapons...
Sometimes an enemy has a much higher stats in health and can hit you for large amounts of damage...causing you to die...unless you maxed out your levels already...
Better train using weaker weapons rather than always using scorched daggers...
-
actually you can rely on good weapons. a 40 slash sword can turn a rat camping noob into a rogue camping noob in a matter of seconds... or however long the lag causes the trade to take
the main things though are weapon skill eg sword or dagger and endurance, your health

actually that is wrong.
-
Wrong. Aha. Soso.
With full stats and well trained Light Armor and Sword (and a bit Melee), I can fight with bare hands against Rats and Fanatics, or with normal weapons against Tefusang near the Ojaveda Road; I would even try a Trepor with short swords if I am allowed to have a potion meanwhile. The rogue in the sewers near the young Tefusang does not hurt me at all.
Of course, I would not win a fight against a super-noob with magic weapons that way, true. But... I know why I usually decline a challenge. If you take duels that serious, play Counterstrike, not PlaneShift.
So, Drey - do not just say \"wrong\", but say \"wrong under the following circumstances...\".
And I will be glad to have trained my skills, when I may have lost all my magic weapons after the next wipe. Then I will have my advantages over those super-noobs who only rely on super-weapons at all. ;)
-
Bah, i don\'t see whats your poin\'t LigH.
Weapons and skills are two separate factors.
Of course that with high skill and normal weapons you can be good, but you can be as well same as good with no skills and uber weapon. These two are extremes. The first option is very long and the second can be instant.
But the fact is most people look for a best sword while training their skills. Also, uber sword allow to train a lot faster.
But everybody know what is going on and those who don\'t shouldn\'t propose any solutions.
Before there was uber weapons, everybody was doing well, so why to change it so dramatically?
Wipe their existance at all, because you can\'t expect things will be balanced if there are weapons which power differ so much.
In real, here on Earth, there was never such a diffrence at one time in some place. A place similiar in general to Yliakum.
Someone will say that teh magic makes them so strong. Magic isn\'t a toy with which you can play as you wish.
-
What my point is? Just as you said!
\"Weapons and skills are two separate factors.\"
Do not rely on only one factor.
If the \"uber\" weapons are taken out of your inventory, do you want to be a weakling again?
No - take the time you have now to train your skills.
The wipe will come. It may remove all the weapons out of your inventory. Then, if you did not use your chance to train your skills, you will be a noob again.
-
So, Drey - do not just say \"wrong\", but say \"wrong under the following circumstances...\".
wrong as in with maxed sword and str you only hit for about 50ish using a plain old sabre
with super weapons you can hit at least 60 straight off, therefore it is not certain that you will win the duel.
-
Ah - you talked about duels. I talked about fights against monsters. ;)

If the enemy has any armour training, you\'re screwed if you don\'t have the necessary weapon\'s skill. Hitting for a lot is one thing; actually landing a blow is another.

They aren\'t completely seperate. No matter how great your weapon might be, if you don\'t know how to wield one you\'d probably end up slashing yourself up instead of your enemy.
Those magical uber weapons shouldn\'t disappear completely in my opinion. They need to get rare, yes and they need to become useless or even harmful for untrained fighters. If your skill isn\'t high enough you should get a message saying \"This weapon doesn\'t feel natural to you and you might hurt yourself if you fight with it.\" The lower your skill the more chance you\'ll hit yourself instead of your opponent, with the damage these weapons do that \'ll be a serious drawback.
hmm .. maybe I should get this up in the wish list.
-
Oh, but you know they were supposed to be rare? They indeed were rare, at the first week.
So, rare is when things stop being rare after 2 weeks ? 1 month? Half a year? A year?
And even if they will be rare for some time. You won\'t feel anything wrong when you fight with 5 slash weapon and suddently you see someone else with 250 slash?
EDIT please don\'t find this post offensive. I\'m just annoyed the way how people think about this matter.

Eventually, condition of weapons will degrade with use until they break.
-
This reminds me on the \"planned\" skill \"Weapons repair\". ;)

I haven\'t seen a game where weapon couldn\'t be repaired to its full condition. I haven\'t seen many games though.
So you must mean that each time it is repaired its max condition decreases a bit, that is solution, not that great.
It still don\'t answer how it come smiths didn\'t maximalized their profits by using the best technologies to make the best avarage weapon.
There are a lot more of reason.
My point is that people don\'t really think about all this stuff, but it is rather: Oooo what a nice sword, good that i have it and others don\'t.
Justification: it is a game and games have stuff like that.
And I don\'t write this directly to devs as a reminder, but rather to all of you dear planeshifters, to look at things a little smarter. Maybe also separate the way how you think from the way how think your chars

I believe that to repair rare weapons, rare materials are required, and not many individuals will be skilled enough to repair them. Further, the expense of repairing such weapons would probably be quite high.
Really, planeshift is going to change so much in the coming months that I\'m inclined to stop talking about things like this all together. I\'m really looking forward to the upcoming updates..... the next one is mostly bug fixes, but I smell crafting in the air.
