Anyone have any recomendations for other good, freeware RPG games? Single player or multiplayer.
-
You know there was a pretty cool game in development a while back that I used to check out quite often. I forgot the name though....something Wars....It begin with an R. But it was a fantasy First Person Shooter.
Edit: Realm Wars! That was it.
Edit2: http://www.realmwarsgame.com (http://www.realmwarsgame.com)

K, I got into the single player and I\'m loading a multi player game now. It seems cute. Very unreal fortress though, not exactly an RPG.:-D
Edit: I can\'t get into the multiplayer games..... it just keeps downloading and downloading and downloading maps and objects from the server.

I started playing with Rose Online recently. It\'s also an open Beta.
It\'s a visually beautiful game (very flashy, bright colors).
It\'s got pretty bad text in some places though (I think it\'s developed in Korea), and the UI is a bit goofy.
The online community is pretty lacking too (no GMs, lots of twits with foul language, little roleplay). Not like we have in PlaneShift!
Might be worth a look if you want a change. But PlaneShift will be your game of choice, I\'m sure!
:)

I was messing around with Knights Online... it has pretty good graphics and gameplay... not much for RP but It was fun especially if you can get a friend to play too.

Hmm that knightonline game looks pretty cool so far ... *checks it out*
As for other free RPG games, I do know a few but I wouldn\'t quite call them good. Most of them are lacking in the roleplaying and degraded to pure hack and slash. Nothing like PS ;)
-
If you dont like the style of Knight online theirs a game exactually like it but it has Martial Arts like style. Its called Martial Heroes (http://www.martialheroes.com)
-
http://www.byond.com/
Freeware gaming client that allows you to MAKE your own 2d games, providing you know their special coding language, and also play others games online! The biggest non-MUD rp game on it is called Space Station 13. Check it out sometime if you\'re into that gameboy-zelda look on games.

Zanzibar you do have to download alot of files for the servers, they have alot of custom content on them leave it for an hour or more and it should all be downloaded. I run a small forum for the game (http://realm-wars.fragism.com/gl-bin/forum/) feel free to ask questions about the game on it.
-
Well you could always try A.D.O.M. (http://www.adom.de/) (Ancient Domains Of Mystery). It is a very fun rpg though if you are into graphics it may not be up your alley (it being a game with ASCII graphics similiar to rogue). Do not let this turn you away from it as it is one of the best rpgs I have seen :)
If anyone does play it though just remember that starving is easy and natural to do but is not something that is particularly helpfull to your character.

http://www.gth.com.my
A very good action game, fairly decent community if you can get past a few outbursts of 9 year olds here and there...Very nice graphics, and a surprising lag-free, smooth gameplay style (aside from the few seconds loading an area with a lot of people in one spot) also, they have fun arenas where you can fight people around your level, nothing is one-sided...Armor is limited, and skills are kind of dull though
-
well there\'s always Battle Tribes :P. you can check out the site http://www.battletribes.tk but the forum is having troubles *curses MFBB server admins!* but hehe there\'s a catch....................................... you\'ll have to wait a few years :D.

if I remember you might be able to find some free MMORPG games on this site somewhere, http://www.mmorpg.com :D
-
Two free open RPG\'s I\'ve been watching for quite some time now:
Arkhart - http://arkhart.nekeme.net/en
Adonthell - http://adonthell.linuxgames.com
Both are still heavily under development, but look VERY promissing ...the first 3d with quite original graphics and the latter a nice 2d (the tech-demo \"Waste\'s Edge\" is more of an adventure though)
I\'m quite sure I know some more free open RPG\'s, but can\'t recall them at the moment :]
-
I\'ve tried Mana World ...it looks pretty promissing, but seems to be (atm) a Secret of Mana - Ragnarok Online crossover.
the Mana World - http://themanaworld.org/
And S.C.O.U.R.G.E. (Heros of Lesser Renown) is an interesting 3d RPG where you\'re put into the role of a group of \"mercenaries\" that have fallen so low they have to do lower quests (like getting a wizard\'s wand from the sewers, because he flushed it) ...although the quests are funny, it\'s very serious Nethack/Rogue-like play.
Scourge - http://scourge.sourceforge.net/
Oh, and while we\'re at it ...of, course, the classics: Nethack, Moria, Rogue with all it\'s possible graphical engines (I\'d suggest you try either falcon\'s eye or vulture\'s eye) ...I\'m not posting a link, because these are such classics, you don\'t deserve playing them if you\'re too lazy to search for them :]
Oh, and these two zelda-like RPG\'s look nice as well (haven\'t played them yet though):
Stendhal - http://arianne.sourceforge.net/?arianne_url=games/game_stendhal
Lgc - http://lgc.tuxfamily.org/
Then there\'s some 3d space shooter/RPG\'s (you know like Wing Commander):
Privateer Gemini Gold - http://priv.solsector.net/
Privateer Remake - http://wcuniverse.sourceforge.net/
Vegastrike - http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/
Oolite - http://oolite.aegidian.org/
glElite - http://glelite.sourceforge.net/
Possible Worlds - http://possibleworlds.sourceforge.net/ (not much RP-ing, but still fun :])
-
Try http://www.materiamagica.com
It\'s a MUD, free, quite a few races and professions, hundreds of skills and spells. If you\'re not familiar with using MUDs, this one has an entire \'newbie village\' which may take several days to get the most out of before you move off into the vast world beyond. Very RP orientated, but of course there is the occasional idiot -who doesn\'t know the meaning of the words- with whom you can have plenty of fun teasing. :]
I think not enough gamers take the MUD plunge because it can all seem very overwhelming. I enjoy graphical games *very* much and used to play nothing but 2D and 3D RPGs, and I always knew MUDs existed but it was like... \"ick, text-based, all that reading, get lost with all those commands having to type so much...\", but one day I just tried out a MUD, stuck with it for 10 minutes, and suddenly found myself enjoying it. It\'s not that much reading; most of the text you automatically learn to either ignore or take note of as it goes by. It\'s all colour-coded, which helps immensely. As for typing, all commands can be shortened, and the up arrow is your friend for repeating commands. And, then, there\'s also the option of using the zMUD client and creating clickable buttons instead of commands.
I recommend zMUD highly. It allows you to create your own clickable GUI buttons, triggers, scripts, command aliases, loads of other things, and an Automap. Though it does require quite a lot of babysitting at first, after you\'ve got the map recorded it will allow you to focus on playing the game rather than trying to remember where you are in a huge maze from mere memory.
Ahh why not... I might aswell throw a screenie (http://www.albinomoogie.net/images/materia.gif) in.
-
i couldn\'t get on with it, heh, it was like : type this this or this etc some storyline etc etc. and i tried, then it went
BLAM!
i suck >.>

Another one I haven\'t played yet but seems really nice:
Tibia - http://www.tibia.com
It\'s available for Linux, Windows and mobile phones (at least symbian-based, like Nokia)

I remember playing that game.... 8 years ago or so. :-D I wasn\'t too fond of it.

Cheating is also a problem on it. People would cheat and summon incredibly large monsters in noob areas for fun.

just go to onrpg.com and check out their list of free mmo\'s.

Ok, THAT IS bad o_O ...now I feel guilty of even knowing it exists :(

I found this game that looks like it might be awsome. http://eventide.net. The graphics, besides the characters, are very good, there are lots of skills, and the world is big and nice looking. the gameplay is kind of like everquest or even planeshift, and yes its free. you should seriously check it out. sadly i didnt expirament with it much, but it looks good.
http://eternal-lands.com is pretty fun. Its got a lot of skills, and the graphics are decent. I want to say its a bit like runescape (just the over head veiw and such), but more adult and serious. So even if you hated runescape (I do), you should still try it out, its pretty fun.
If you like those korean hack and slash rpg\'s like knight online, there is also Kal Online. Its graphics are pretty impressive but thats all i will say. I personally hate these types of games with a passion, but maybe you all like them.
http://kalonline.com
BTW, thanks for that realm wars link, that type of game is right up my alley.
-
I played Eternal Lands for a short period of time and *hated* it.
Maybe it\'s just me, but to me it seemed like it\'s a power-leveling game ...you could move across distances by just clicking on the map, I didn\'t see many players actually RP-ing, and most of all - even the NPC trainer didn\'t RP much ...even called me a -and I cite- \"n00b\" several times in a row.
It *looks* nice though, and has some pretty cool features ...
-
When I was 14 I loved R* Scape, but now I try to love it again but I fail.
Another great free MMORPG is Rubies Of Eventide, it feautres great graphics, big world, a good variety of monsters, items, spells, many skills to practice but players are few. I can\'t find fellow players as often as in PS. Plus when you fight you are given another instance of world and other players cannot see you until you group with them.
But still it\'s a good game and has many ideas to borrow for PS. Be sure that your RAM is above 512MB or you\'ll end with loading times as long as 5 mins.

My friend showed me this (http://english.flyff.com/guide/guide_main_vagrant.asp) once looks good but I have to wait to finish the download first

Those graphics are...cute :/
Flying though? Seriously, does it have any kind of plot, or just fly around with your magic wand and see how far you go? :P

I tried eternal lands a few mounths ago it was realy hard to get started, easy monsters where to hard and no one helped any one except outof game friends
