Title: 0.3.012 ready.
Post by: Talad on October 24, 2005, 12:59:00 am
(news taken from main site)

Good day everyone! A new update has been released 0.3.012. The files are not yet available on FTP, they will be in the next days. To play the game you can just update your 0.3.011 clients using the updater. Here is a list of changes included in this update:

Features

* Pets (familiars) added. New /pet command controls them.
* Frame rate limit added to Options. Frame rate limit is 62.5fps by default.
* Hair color for new characters can be changed. Existing characters will have to buy and use dye when it becomes available.
* Skills window has been reworked into categories. The category tab will blink if there is a skill available from the trainer.
* Gave GMs the ability to award XP for completing GM-created events.
* Right-click quick chat pop-up menu has been disabled.
* If you /use with an argument it wil assume you are trying to consume.
* /equip defaults to 1 item being used
* Support added for chained quests
* Some fixes so guild notes are actually usable:
- The gui now sends the targeted person\'s charcter id instead of your own, so it is possible to send notes.
- Private notes are only viewable by that character, and can be sent by any member of the guild. They are appended, not the best formatting, but it works for now.
* Creating a guild now has a confirmation dialog that explains the requirements.
* Re-wrote invite spam-blocker:
- Now only triggered on declines, so as to not block legitimate invites.
- Penalties now increase with each decline:
1) 1 min lockout
2) 5 min + warning
3) 10 min + 10 advisor point fine + 10 duel point fine, if duel spam + death
4) 30 point fine(s) + death + kick from server
- Penalties expire with gameplay time, and can be lowered by getting an accept from a player with no penalties and a enough advisor points.
- Penalty level is saved to the player\'s account entry in the database, so repeat offenders can\'t escape it. (relog resets to 3rd level)
* Enhancements to the looting system:
- Roll for loot enforcement: If a player in a group attempts to take instead of roll for any loot, the roll winner will be prompted to allow the action.
- Range restriction for rolling: Only group members within 30 meters (10 times normal loot range) can win a roll for loot.
* Implemented discard quest feature.
* /my command added
* Updater improved to be more efficient
* Add $target to shortcuts. Inserts the name of the player or object currently targeted into a command to replace each $target.
* Made it so if a spell -can- be cast on you (say, Life Infusion), and you have no target, it casts on yourself
* Improved NPC fighting behaviour so it\'s not cancelled by the server when the NPC leaves the range.
* Improved NPC navigation - they should hug walls less now.
* Add new icon to NPC right-click interact menu to chat to the NPC. Switches cursor to the chat window.
* Exiting the death realm now spawns you at your racial spawn point.
* /marriage command added

Bug Fixes

* Various inventory and exchange bugs fixed where items could be lost.
* Fixed a bug where lacking a 0th shortcut would make the shortcut window have errors.
* Negative values for stats/skills at character creation are now checked for.
* Message versioning to prevent player stats jumping around due to out of order UDP
* It is now possible to strafe and rotate
* Name labels are updated when name is changed
* Guild labels are updated when guild is changed
* Fixed fall damage
* Fixed that new looted items were not accessible until inventory was opened.
* Re-enabled mouse run
* Fixed that it was possible to cast healing spells on a target with 100% HP.
* Add /die command to commit suicide. If used in a duel, you automatically yield.
* Fixed bug where trying to deequip while dead creates ghost item
* Fix for recent problem of users being unable to zone.
* Fix for bug that prevents the casting of a spell after it was interrupted.
* Training exploit fixed
* Fixed bug \"During a guild war one guild yielded and the other 2 guild didn\'t get the Karma Points\".
* Fixed: complains at you if you try to cast Defensive Wind while targetting an enemy...saying it only can be cast on you. Made it cast such spells on you, regardless of what\'s targeted.
* Fixed bug that \"Married to: xyz\" was added again and again to your char desc when you edit it.
* Fixed bug that the character was not removed from his guild when it\'s deleted and you keep seeing it in the guild until the server is restarted.
Fixed bug that players can start trading with other players without their permission and can annoy them in between fights etc.
* Various sound and music fixes

Just a little bit of confusion on /marriage.
Is it one-one, or could it be used to apply a family name to multiple characters?
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on October 24, 2005, 01:50:35 am
It\'s still a one-one name change :) With multiple characters, you\'ll have to ask a GM for help.

There aren\'t many new visuals besides gui edits, and a pet model GMs may be able to morph others into. The rest is just code :)

I noticed several weather related updates in the file...In the future will bad weather possibly do destruction to cities/houses...Creation of floods...or snow accumilation...It would deffinetly add to the realism of the game...All in all game looks to be heading in a great direction...Great job so far PS team...

No gui edits? try the stone skin ;)
There will likely be more art updates as things are finsihed, the code had to be updated all at once however.

And I keep saying this in different ways, but just becasuer a file is added does not mean you can use it yet :P How long was it after there was a download of dagger files till thee were daggers ingame?

I\'m not sure if weather in Yliakum can be so extreme. It will certainly be a while before any objects as large as houses can be made destructable, and it\'s a sensitive issue. I have a feeling that snow is definitely not possible with the current setting, however.

I don\'t know if it was just me or not, but I was walking funnily on the stairs.  When I got on any incline, my character would turn to strange angles, and when I got off the stairs I would be facing the ground (almost lying down...) and the controls would be messed up.  Is that because of an error in the update, or an error because of me...?

Using the Tab key for mouse look was broken by the update.

It has changed to a toggle.  Press to turn on, press to turn off.  Almost unusable.

Mouse look on the center mouse button, still requires that the cursor focus is not on the chat window, to be functional.

This is also improper.

In both cases, if you press either button, you should be in mouse look, and if you release it, you should stop being in mouse look; regardless of context.

This is actually how it\'s supposed to be, or was before the last update \"messed it up.\"

I like it much better when it stays on, because I prefer to use that when moving around, and it was a pain to hold down [Tab] the whole time.

wish the same could be done for run.
Very seldom do I want to be walking.

You can set an auto-run button :D

I\'m not sure what the default is, but I have it set to \"V\".  Just open the options menu, go to keyboard, scroll down until you see \"auto-run\".
Title:
Post by: atxdiablo on October 24, 2005, 05:31:43 am
thats for if you want to follow the oja road and such.
I am referring to when your in the sewers or arena, and wanting to get from one spot to another you don\'t want to walk it, don\'t want to hit auto run then if you need to stop for a sec to check something out, then have to re hit auto run to get runnning. or you have to hold down a extra key along with the direction keys to have controlled run and stop when you let go.

kinda like also need a follow command.

if you dont mind me saying, this is not longer a proper place for this convorsation and should be brought up in the wishlist forum, the dev team will not be looking for suggestions like this here

Before this update, I could run, then seamlessly turn and fire, without a pause of any kind, using mouse look.  I can\'t do that anymore.

The tab key is now almost completely unusable for motion-intensive combat, like Hit-and-run, or duelling.

It requires the player to constantly double-check whether they can steer, and can introduce at least a half second of life-threatening delay, between modes.

If there are enough of us who actually prefer the tab key to toggle mouse look, then at least let the players be able to choose between toggle or momentary, for themselves.

And for crying out loud, make the mouse look on the mouse button context-independent and momentary, so that a player can turn and fire from there as well.

For me and many others, this change has made combat a lot more difficult, painful and cumbersome than the lag ever did.

I doubt that this is the result that was intended.

So if there is a file I can edit or replace in the mean time, please let me know, as soon as you can.

It would mean a lot.

Verrliit

[EDIT:  This is a response to a change made by an update.      It is feedback from a player, on what effect a change has had.  Since there is no category for player reactions to changes made by updates, this seemed to me to be the most appropriate thread to put it.]

What does the /my command do?  Sorry if it\'s been asked / answered somewhere else....

Edit:  Hit and run attacks are technically exploits of the battle mechanics.  That is to say, we aren\'t supposed to be hitting and running.  Many would call hit and runs \"OOC\", even though I do not go that far.

I believe it\'s finally a variation of /me :D So if you want something to appear as \"Shalmaneser\'s ears droop,\" you\'d type /my ears, etc., etc. Cool stuff!

There\'s a summoning spell?

And a spell that makes Shal\'s ears droop?

Oh, Goody!

I can\'t wait to use them. :)

Not everyone in planeshift is a cat-person.  Some of our characters lack such superfluous muscles as those which allow us to emote with our ears.

Can\'t we customize the look of the toolbar anymore?
Like making the icons smaller, and stuff? Now I don\'t have enough room in my playing-window to put the shortcut-list in it... :(
Title:
Post by: darkw00t on October 24, 2005, 09:58:34 am
then psition the other windows in a suitable spot, i only need communications and main one (the one with fenki and bars) and the shortcuts, you would only need the other windows on occasion not all the time
Title:
Post by: Hadfael on October 24, 2005, 10:01:57 am
right click the chevrons to change the toolbar layout then resize it with the little square at the bottom right (in horizontal display)...it worked when I tried.

My favorite change is to involve APs in penalties for duels. I don\'t see what made someone think that people could help the others just to PvP. I thought they did it to become kewl-GM

Some changes are quite on the annoying side though, but most of us will benefit from this new stuff, more fun stuff to do and use

One small point does this:

(- Penalties expire with gameplay time, and can be lowered by getting an accept from a player with no penalties and a enough advisor points.)

The player how accept with the advisor points loses them to the challenger.

  ?(

I think it means that if you get an accept to a challenge from someone without penalties and with some advisor points, your penalty time will be reduced.

Updater usually has those funny little things that we won\'t be able to use for a while.

i havent gotten to play (servers down) so i am a little unclear about pets. Am I right when i say that there are no models for them at this point? Whats the deal with them, and also, can anyone verify if crafting exists now since sesmi confused me.

The [Tab] looking was changed!? Oh no! I liked it the way it was. If you want to click-and-don\'t-need-to-hold-it just use [Caps-Lock]. :( I didn\'t update it yet and i feel bad now... :(

There is a model - a screenshot has been posted in Suno\'s thread :) It\'s just that the pets can do very little at the moment - walk around, follow you a bit. Only GMs and devs have the ability to create pets, or turn others into the pet models - and it\'s not a permanent change. So this is just the beginning of the pet system.

Crafting isn\'t fully implemented yet, either - all of the changes or additions to code were listed by Talad. If it\'s not there, it\'s not there.

I have realised a few things about this new update (not all bugs) (i am sure you already know)
When you are running down stairs the leaps in the middle can cause a fair bit of damage
The font is way too big, the old size was the right size.. this one is just ridiculous
Monsters cannot fight back
HP starts at around 50% as you log in, same goes with stamina

What is going or should i say going down ...
We have an update , who can only be accessed to insider.
Maybe the window release is working but what with linux and mac ?
No update on  official PS homepage are  made for these release . All have to be found in a messy forum.
Simple bug like smallinventory.xml are still in repository and are not changed , and makes a nonsens of using the updater.

And update should make things better but not worser.

What is the goal of PS ? Just using  player as betatester for an unknown goal ?

PS as open-source , i dont believe it anymore after ready so much in forum and bug report, because only a handfull of poeple can make any change and these change are no done even with all help of lot of player, or take so long until a hypothetic better update. The showcase of PS is nice , but this is only an empty box full of promise since 3 years.

Wanting to protect to much a projet is also to making it not going further or killing it.

Think about it.

I didn\'t realize till I tried to fix a small bug in the updater how many features are not quite complete in it. Currently it cannot selfupdate on any platform besides windows, even though it is easier on linux. That should be fixed as soon as we can.

The mac and linux versions were not properly released as a new package for 12, yes that was a mistake. But it takes hours to make each package, where as updating from an older version should work. Howver, it, like most of the features of planeshift at the tech-demo stage, is not quite smooth yet.

The small inventory error is ironically because the linux update is newer then the windows one, so it needs a newer datafile. That also should not have happened, but we cannot reverse past mistakes, just avoid them in the future.

It is true that only a small group can commit changes to planeshift. However, we are more then happy to look at proposed changes from others. I have committed fixes from atleast three players, and I would be more then happy to commit more. Just pm me or email.

If anyone could freely save changes to the CVS, it\'d be a mess...  Open source means you can do whatever you want to the source; it says nothing about what you can do to our copy of it.  ;)

Ditto on the committing of others\' code.  If you fix a bug, we are more than happy to review and commit it for you!  Poke one of us on IRC if you have some code, or would like to be given something to take a look at.  New coders are always welcome.  :)
