Title: Where do I get a pet?
Post by: sesmi on October 24, 2005, 02:57:22 am
I want a pet ulbernaut!  ;(

From what I heard you can\'t have a pet yet.

Post by: Karyuu on October 24, 2005, 02:59:43 am
An object required for pet owning isn\'t yet available, so the pet feature isn\'t fully implemented and ready for players to use.

I\'m not going to believe that...If GM\'s can -become- an NPC, why can\'t we just have a little NPC to follow us? Seems like a waste of time to me...

Believe it or not, it is :) GMs/Devs can morph players (and I believe other NPCs) into the current pet model, but again, it\'s not a full feature.

really do you have a picture of the pet model?

I wish I did! I hear it\'s rather cute :P Sadly I haven\'t seen it yet either. I\'m sure once Moogie hops into the forum, she\'ll share it with us - since she created the skin for it :)

Will there be more than one pet in the future?...What does the pet do for you?...
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on October 24, 2005, 03:33:17 am
No doubt there will be many different pets in the future. As for what it does now - very little, if not nothing at all.
Title:
Post by: stfrn on October 24, 2005, 03:42:36 am
I\'d assume there are many existing monsters that would be good pets as well. But you will have to wait, not just for a way to use them, but also for them to be able to do anything. Right now they can appear and walk around.

I noticed if you do /pet help or something like that (I don\'t remember exactly what I typed) it showed that you could make it attack something.  Can we make it level up and get stronger and stuff?  Or do you have to get a new pet?  Or is this even thought about yet...?

If you can make it attack things (in the future), you can probably make it grow and progress in strength and several other stats. This is just the beginning.

hopefully they will evolve to the quality of the \"pets\" in WoW (not that i play, i know people who do)
They can:
 be ridden-for quiker transportaion
 attack
 evolve
 be killed
 interact with other animals
and be controled with relitive ease

im sure one day we will reach this same high quality preformace

/me shakes her paw at Stronith

You stole my picture and posted it before I could. =D It was fun to watch the fox/chickens? What are the cute little pets Stronith and I took screenshot of?

At any rate the Ulbers were pretty freaky but displayed a gentle side today and cuddled.....giggles......

Don\'t get your hopes up, Sesmi. It will just become another one of those GM only things that the Devs waste valuable bug-fixing time on, for them to show off while we get nothing out of it...

Suno, you do realize over 100 bug fixes have been included in this latest update? :)

There\'s a slight difference between Groffel and Ulbernaut though ;)

Edit: Karyuu, over 100? Isn\'t it more like 300? :P

And about half of those fixes came with more bugs (and none of them have anything to do with jumping high in the sky either, just annoying ones with lighting bugged, and repeated chat lines)

It\'s still possible even though fly was removed? And I couldn\'t stick to any object for that..
Title:
Post by: Suno_Regin on October 24, 2005, 09:48:07 pm
No, I said it isn\'t possible, that was the fun part, also with flying damage back, I can no longer roofjump, which kept me occupied when I was bored...Ah well, I\'ll think of something to do :/

Post by: Moogie on October 24, 2005, 10:32:44 pm
The pet code is still having some difficulties that Borrillis and Talad are working on. For now, the mesh has been included with the game, and me and some other GMs were just messing around and seeing how it looks ingame.

There are times here I feel like saying \"Oh go away you clueless silly person\" (not in those exact words), but I never do. :) Still, ignorant comments like that make it very tempting.

That is soo \'YAA BOOO\' of you, it may seem that way, but silently hope it is not true, and look forward to the new things that will come with time

The seperate windows for skills are a great help for \'noobies\' and organisation and we find them easier to find things in...  the sitting glitch is funny and look forward to it being fixed.

Celorrim \"what did you see exactly\"
Lolitra \" some sort of flying quadroped, but it was soo so soo  cute...\"
Celorrim \"and what did you see, Exactly..\" frowns \"and will you stop that dancing....
Lolitra \"Pretty things...\"

Awesome work Moogie. Don\'t get down hearted by one mardy player

Title:
Post by: Suno_Regin on October 24, 2005, 11:44:33 pm
I\'ve experienced a lot in the game, you have no right to call me a mardy player...If you\'ll notice, most of the juicy parts of the game are kept for GM\'s, transforming, completed spells that haven\'t been implimented yet because of bugs (regardless that they work fine in my eyes)

Pets is just likely to become a highly bugged/GM only things in the future, but I could be wrong
Title:
Post by: Karyuu on October 24, 2005, 11:47:19 pm
Could be? You most definitely are. The pet system is for players to use and enjoy in the future, I thought this was made clear.. :}

Don\'t be so pessimistic about things, Suno. Transforming shouldn\'t be in the hands of players anyway, and GMs can\'t have spells if they\'re not implemented yet, right? Was that just badly phrased? Sometimes things just need testing, and GMs are just a good group for a first test. And if something works fine in your eyes, it doesn\'t mean it is fine - there is a lot of underlying code that may need tweaking.

Post by: TheMinority on October 25, 2005, 12:23:14 am
how do you know for sure that it\'s working perfectly? i mean, the code could be screwed up somewhere and it could be giving the GM cancer for all you know!

how heartless...

(Can\'t form the guild yet, but working on it piece by piece)
Title:
Post by: Keyaz on October 25, 2005, 12:32:44 am
the spells you dont have need work, as do some oyu already have, power and effectiveness, and some, simply arent available because your not ready to hold teh powah! (Talad doesn\'t want to release them yet)

how the hell does /morph become a player thing anyway? your just power hungry

sure players will be able to disguise themselves in future... with magic of cool costumes, but definately not just a command, grow up mitaki

I hear anyone whine about how GM\'s get better stuff we\'ll never have blah blah blah they\'re gonna get a lead pipe up side the head.

GM\'s finalise a few things on features before you get them, like crafting, of which keeps bouncing back because they\'re unhappy with it, and besides, the GM\'s deserve to play with stuff you miserable sods dfont, because they have to put up with all your crap all day everyday.

I think I know what you mean (taking out the flaming :P) I do give them a lot of grief, but just seems like we should get a full description (from a Dev, not just a moderator) of each thing not available to us, a why, and future plans of what will become available...Next, I know you\'ll say \"They won\'t waste their time on describing something slowly to an idiot\" well, they seem to have fun running around as an ulbernaut, I\'m sure they can squease in a small explanation of something while having all of that fun :)

The thing is, you\'ll never get a list or full explanation/description of things that will be available in the future. I think by now you had to have caught on that the development team likes to surprise the players with content, and this just isn\'t going to change. And so of course you\'re not likely to get a list of each thing not available, either. Why does it matter so much?
Title:
Post by: Suno_Regin on October 25, 2005, 12:49:45 am
Because it seems like so many things are being hidden, I don\'t know what comes out, whats available for players, whats not available for players, anything :/

Changes that are implemented into clients/updates are always posted, just as Talad posted them in the forums and on the main site. And of course don\'t forget the cvs history (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/history.txt) - probably your biggest guide to \"What\'s Coming Next.\"

Well, that is what I meant actually...But I\'m leaving it at that, because the update screwed up in the middle so we could get in game when it wasn\'t finished yet, so its just hanging in...cyberspace? :P

Karyuu wins for most accurate :) Anyone is free to click on the link in my sig, and count all the bugs that were closed between this weekend and the last release. I tried and gave up after 100, but it\'s less then 300... or in other words we close gazillions!

Pets are still being worked on- the model was uploaded to everyone now because they were not sure when the command would be usable, and because it was done now. Same thing with crafting and the smelting machines, they have to be ingame so they can be tested now, and they will be usable as soon as possible.

*tries to look as suave as possible* Sorry ma\'am, I tried but the server said someone beat me to it.

Now, I could comment on what\'s not implemented yet, but why? pretty much everything is being worked on right now. Pretty much everything will be better sometime, if not sometime soon. Now excuse me while I go to try and fix the next batch of bugs :P

Damnit Suno did you have to open that thread, I planned on getting to Jayoses and read all the books again to find something about pets, but now it is all screwed....

...and life infusion of course works perfectly I have used it sooo many time I cant count that far, and it is perfectly balanced and of course there is nothing the least bit buggy in it. Same with pets, they are fully develloped and the GMs are just being greedy! And they are just jealous and dont want us to have fun with /morph and they are holding everything back from us, and dont help us the least bit, buhuuuuubuhuhubu ... (hope everyone knows that this sentence was sarcasm)

((are the mugs back?))

People like you two should be put in a seperate autocratic government and not released until you realise what you\'re talking about :P

\"Cookie? You want a cookie?! We give you yesterday\'s bread already! What else do you want? ... Now water too? Bugger off!\"

Autocratic form of management is one of the least effective. One of the principles when you\'re creating any form of wares is to research what the possible users feel a need for. And then ponder whether they should be given what they want or not :P
