Title: Problems with 3.012 update
Post by: Radiant Memphis on October 24, 2005, 12:15:41 pm
:O ahhhh....mmkay, the problem as of recent with the new update is, once I have instaled it (updater says is up to date) and, I go to log in and it still tells me the I do not have the most recent verson, or something of the like. Is this a Mac only problem? I even down loaded the recent ver. of jar. I had no real problems until this update. Also, there is not as of yet a binary for Mac auto update; perhaps it\'s coming in the future?
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
?(

Sorry, we need a mac builder to make the mac binaries, and none seem to be available as of yet  ?(
Of course, as with any update it has been crashing a lot, so you are not missing much ;)

Listen to some music (http://www.isound.com/mp3s/lambent_flame/) while we wait for the update to occur. Thanks for the info, it was driving me up the walls not knowing. Well, not really, but I made some cool music in the meanwhile.  :]

I\'m going to try to use dfryer\'s scripts to get the build done. Be patient and cross your fingers!

Dfryer is back to help, so things should move a long a bit now.

I\'m not trying to be a pest. I just need to get a better idea of when the new build will be done and the server will be accepting mac connections so I can plan my life a little more definitively. I mean, are we talking hours? days? weeks? or months? Whatever your answer here, please understand, I\'m not going to hold you to it and start bitching when it doesn\'t happen and I hope no one else here will either. I\'ve worked in software development and I do know how frustrating it can be and how hard it is to give a solid answer to this question. I\'m just very excited about this game and haven\'t got to play it at all yet. I\'ve read almost all the decent forums, the whole players manual, and already have a guild picked out. I mean, I\'m ready.

No pressure, just an honest estimate with actual units of time involved would be so helpful.

TIA

How Long?  I was in your boots once while waiting for update to 0.3.009 and  i believe it took a very long time from a players viewpoint.  But I did prepare by reading all the Mac messages and various other themes.

You say, you did software development.  Maybe you could try starting up and developing an update yourself?

Also the players handbook is rather outdated and sometimes misleading.  Predefined paths are almost useless.   I posted info on predefined paths in the Newbie section and in comparing all the 6 paths listed for Enkidukai (which I play) I discovered that for The race, Enkidukai, a male, basic is Str 55, Agil 85, End 50, Int 40, will 70, char 50 and for each of the defined paths that is what you also get.    Each of the paths get 5-6 skills which can be trained higher.
However if you customize your character, you can start with upwards of 30-40 skill points.   Also you should use all your character points to develop your character but do not go to a minus level which will cause the game to reject your character.    Also skill points in areas that have not been implemented are nice to look at but I doubt if they are of much value.
:)
Also since ChaOs will probably look at this,  I think ChaOs should have an assistant to post the message to newbies that trying to get on just does not work until an Updater is created and he and Dfryer should spend what time they have in developing the Update and not have to worry about dealing with  messages?

It will take a few days (for some value of \"few\"!) to get things working.  They\'re still having some problems on the back-end as well with NPCs, so I don\'t think you\'re REALLY missing much.  I\'ll try to commit a reasonable portion of my time to fixing things up, I\'ve definitely been absent and slack.

Thanks!
Daniel

Thanks muchly for the estimate. I know you guys are working hard on this. I don\'t envy you at all. I only wish I could help, but alas, all my development experience is in user interface design and not so much coding so I would only get in the way. I guess I really will have to find something else to do this weekend! I wish you guys all the best.

We don\'t know when it will be finished, but we are working on it. \"A few days\" is an estimate. Don\'t hold us to it or... you will feel my wrath... *evil grin*

We have binaries! I just got working binaries and I believe dfryer has some as well. As soon as one of us runs into Talad, we\'ll send them off. After Talad puts them in the updater repository, we\'ll post here and you can download them. Expect them in the next few days! :)

Thank you from both me and my wife for all the hard work you do, as we both enjoy the game very much, and would also like to point out to all that thanks to your hard work the few problems we have that are mac related, are few compared to the other two platforms.

I am at present playing on  a PC, and the problems i face on here is vastly more than i ever faced on my beloved Mac.

So thank you for all the hard work you both put in to the Mac community.

  :)

And some bad news... (but also good news). We\'ve decided that since the server is going to be updated soon (probably today), we\'re going to hold off on the release since it would just mean we\'d need another release immediately afterwards. This should only add a day or two (assuming the server gets updated soon). Thanks for our patience!

so there is going to be a .13 soon but it will only take you a few more days to make that update for macs but we will have to wait even longer to be able to get on the server?
So far i downloaded the game 4 days ago and registered here got an account but have been in suspense waiting to be able to get on the server but i geuss i can wait a bit longer but only if the .13 is released soon on pc then i can have a day to look forward to. Thanks for your efforts

btw what is so different that they are leleasing a new server update soon after the last 1?

Post by: Cha0s on November 02, 2005, 10:37:45 pm
I do not believe it will be a major release (i.e. it will still be .12, I think). However, they will be fixing a lot of bugs, so it\'s worth waiting for I think. ;)

ok so not too much more work for you and dfryerto do then thaks for the heads up. Keep at it cus i would realy like to start playing for the first time.

Yup, should be done very soon after the server update.

And your welcome, but as always, most of the thanks belong to dfryer. ;)

Post by: zb1000 on November 03, 2005, 06:17:24 pm
so y cant you just release the new binaries(.12) as soon as they are finished and then just spend 2-3 days working on converting the new bug fixes when they come out for microsoft?
Title:
Post by: Cha0s on November 04, 2005, 02:57:04 am
Because, while isn\'t necessarily very much work for us to make the binaries, getting them to Talad to be uploaded the repository does take a considerable amount of time and bandwidth. Plus, it doesn\'t make sense to release binaries when a change is planned so soon.

oh fair enough. Has the update of the server been done yet/ When can we expect the new bugfixes for windows?

I hav completed the last update (the .12 one) but now my client and status programmes wont open, only the new updater(1.0.2.8) will open. When i open the client it opens it and goes to a grey screen (with 3.012 at the top) but then i quits and it says pssetup unexpectedly quit. Is there still more updates to download or is there something wrong?

this is my console log when i opened psclient then the end bit is when i opened psstatus:

I clearly said PC not Mac, best to wait till you are told to by ether ChaOs are Dfryer.

Would you like me to post my crash logs for them too?

What do you mean you sed pc? i used the mac updater to update it so how does that hav nyhing to do with a pc?
also why would cha0s or dfryer make the updates available to be updated by the updater if they didnt think it would work?
Title:
Post by: r.guppy on November 04, 2005, 06:07:30 pm
I was replying to your post, if i am right was asking if the PC  update had happened, at time of that post it had not, so when it did i edited my post to inform you it had.

I am not updating my Mac until i am told to do so by ether ChaOs are Dfryer. As there is no point in doing so, as i know it will not work.

I hope this clears up any confusion.    :))
