Title: Strong indices of a memory leak
Post by: LigH on October 26, 2005, 09:09:16 pm
I\'m quite sure that the current version 0.3.012 allocates more and more memory without freeing it again - here I show you a few screenshots of SysInternal\'s Process Explorer, reporting the allocated memory, while I stay inside Kada-El\'s tavern, only walk around inside very little, meet and talk to visitors from time to time.

At those times where the memory consumption increases visibly faster, the game slows down heavily due to second-by-second lags, and even minute-long lags where the UI does not react at all. After recovering, I get all the missed messages at once in the communication window.

There is a certain level of lag when it doesn\'t make any more sense for me to wait for the game to react again, and I finally close it. I\'m not sure but I guess that the game then starts to swap to the harddisk more and more, and finally needs the whole time to swap.

At least, I cannot imagine a reason why the game would need to use more and more memory, while I don\'t run around in the world; the only reason I can imagine is a memory leak. And, by the way: I set up the game to use 1/4 texture sizes. But 600 MB (virtual size: up to 1.25 GB!) requirement for 1/4 textures is too heavy, in version 0.3.011, I could use a web browser and even a painting tool meanwhile, with 512 MB RAM.

I\'ve experienced that problem too. The game eats up to 1MB/Minute.

Not sure if it is related or not, but after doing the same thing over and over (like attacking monsters repetitively, or training in a skill) my FPS gradually goes down.  After a little bit, it goes down to 0.0, and I have to close PS.

@ shorty13:

I would think so. In the tavern, there is not much going on, but each time a new race enters, or when I walk to a place I haven\'t been for several minutes, more memory is allocated.
