Title: A3 style pet leveling system
Post by: WizardsRule on October 29, 2005, 04:55:10 pm
For those of you who havent played it here is a VERY brief description for you.  Basically, your pet starts out has an egg that you carry with you.  Even before birth, it starts with semi random abilities( ex: fire atribute, extra attack, ect).  As you fight in the world, the egg slowly gains exp until it finally hatches thus releasing the monster. (Note: As damage is inflicted upon you, the pet also receives damage.  Also if the egg/released pet is killed, it takes a special potion to revive it)Once released, you can continue to lvl your monster thus adding more abilities. (Note: as your monster takes damage, it takes potions to heal it.

Now im not saying to copy this system but instead to use it as a refrence for the upcoming system.

This would be interesting, because it would essentially create a new character class -- instead of someone who concentrates on training fighting skills, magic, or a trade, we\'ll have characters who dedicate their training time to training their pets.

Why is the pet gaining your experience? Or taking your damage? Or hatching because of experience accumulated?

You both take damage at the same time

Yes, and I\'m asking who in his right mind would tie a soon-to-be-pet egg to his torso and allow someone to damage it, instead of just putting it in a safe place where it would be safe from any harm.
And how do you give it experience anyway? You tie it to a stick and swing around smacking heads of your enemies with it? That would explain hatching though. Maybe a bit... enforced, but hatching none the less.

Yes, I think eggs should hatch over time with certain ministrations. Experience from the player should have no affect (unless they put it into \"pet raising\" of course ;) ). Also, pets and players should not share life or experience. It doesn\'t make sense, really. Remember, the goal is realism.

Yall misunderstand me completely.  You carry the egg in your inventory.  As you are attacked, it ALSO takes damage(though not as much).  You do NOT share exp.  Yall just both gain seperate exp. from battle.  Also the pet gains exp at a much SLOWER rate.

Tying an egg to a torso would have the same effect as carrying it in your inventory - it shouldn\'t be done with something as precious. It would make much more sense to leave the egg in a safer, more egg-friendly place so that the critter can be hatched in peace, instead of pieces. How much damage can an egg take, realistically? Even if the shell is unusually hard, wouldn\'t pre-hatch battling really mess the critter up? And how would an -egg- gain experience? Experience comes from doing something, not taking damage.

Reference? Everything you mentioned doesn\'t fit into the PS system at all in the first place :|
