OS: Windows XP
Processor: P4 1.8GHz
RAM: 384mb
Video Card: Radeon 9250
Video Card Memory: 256mb
PS Client Version: 0.3.011
OpenGL or Safe Mode: OpenGL?
Description of the bug: I ran the updater, then tried to open the game \"PlaneShift - Tech Demo\" and as soon as the black screen comes up it says:

\"Something unexpected happened in PlaneShift: Crystal Blue Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0051F91A

Would you like to save a diagnostic file?\"
                           [Yes]  [No]

Go to Planeshift Setup:
All Programs-Planeshift-Planeshift Setup and ensure that you\'ve sound disabled. Try relaunching it again.
If it keeps failing, try checking if load all maps is enabled, and finally try to update your graphic cards drivers to the last version avaiable.
Good luck.

ok, the sound is off, and i\'m sure my drivers are fine, and i did the map thingy, and it still doesnt work.

but when i put it in full screen mode, it doesnt give me the error box, just a windows error report message....

You are not alone Gunlex. See my thread \"something unexpected happened\"
The man who solved the problem first tells it to the other one. OK?

did you solve the problem?

Hi everybody.
I\'ve got the same problem. I\'ve downloaded the game from the mirror. At the first start it launched and I went to the login screen. Than I did the update. After the update I can\'t start the game anymore. in the console Iget the message:

WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.sndsys.manager\'

Than I get the EXEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0051F91A

I tried everything, no sound, different graphic settings, different sound settings. I\'m sure that I have the latest drivers.

Time of test: 10-30-05
OS: Xp-SP2
Processor: AMD 3000
RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: radeon 9700 Pro
Video Card Memory: 128
PS Client Version: latest
OpenGL or Safe Mode: OpenGL

There seems something wrong with the last update, or why did it fwork with the older files?
Title:
Post by: Gunlex on October 30, 2005, 10:09:44 pm
i also get that:

WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.sndsys.manager\'

this sux.

I wonder if it is the Radeon cards, you both have radeons right?

Post by: dermilchmann on October 30, 2005, 10:17:36 pm
I didnt\'t solve the problem. Think we must wait until next year. But I would like to play. Never played but it seemed to be very nice.

I also get the same error, however i have a nvidia card,  Though i did notice something in common, i too downloaded the game from the first mirror instead of bittorent (56k didn\'t want to DL more stuff).

Wait... what the hell?... o.O We aren\'t using that sound renderer...  Edit your pclient.cfg and find this line:

System.PlugIns.iSoundManager = planeshift.sound.soundmanager

And make it look like that, instead of whatever it looks like now.

If you think that not getting an immediate fix/answer means that no one gives a damn, you\'re in for a big disappointment in PlaneShift. Things don\'t just magically happen. Yes there are bugs and yes there are annoying problems, but they are being tackled, especially if they prevent people from playing at all. Just relax for a bit, and think positive ;)

Title:
Post by: DaveG on October 31, 2005, 04:52:58 pm
1)  Gunlex:  Somewhere you are trying to access sndsys, which is wrong.  Search within your PlaneShift directory\'s files for the word \"sndsys\".  (just use the Windows search, and search within the files)  It\'s either there somewhere, or there is a glitch in one of the programs.  We haven\'t switched over to the new CS sound renderer yet.

2)  The updater is having issues.  Just ignore those last 2 files for the time being.

3)  Grndmasta:  Learn some freakin\' patience.

4)  Daefaroth:  The issue here is that most devs don\'t read the forums, with good reason...  And, this is a new problem.  Additionally, as I already said, be patient.  We\'re not clarvoiyant, and things don\'t get fixed instantly, especially when we get rambling dins of threads like these.  These forums can become a polluted mess, and sometimes you\'re lucky we\'re as nice as we are...

Here\'s how all of these threads go:

A)  2 possibilities:

a)  A coherent post with lots of information
b)  A whiny un-readable mess.
(usually the latter, but not in this case)

B)  One of the MANY helpful people on the forums posts a generic (and often surprisingly effective) set of solutions.  (Nilrem was your helper monkey this time around :) )

C)  3 possibilities:

a)  Fixed; done.
b)  Fixed; moron.  =>  Try and explain what to do, again.
c)  Not fixed.  =>  Continue.

D)  Next they\'ll be a round of pot shots, with useless chatter mixed in.  (see above)

E)  Someone who knows the slightest clue at what they are doing (but not in this particular area :P ) will discover what\'s wrong and try to fix the issue.  ( hi o/ )

F)  More useless chatter, complaints, whining.  Panic ensues, as everyone in the thread thinks that was the end of it... because it seems they all LIVE here, and expect instant replys.

G)  The person(s) attempting to help point out that their first suggestion may have been along the correct path, and we just need more info.  ( hi o/ )

H)  3 possibilities:

a)  Endless waiting, and more chatter.
b)  Response, but no more info.  =>  Nothing to work with.
c)  Response with more info.  =>  Continue.

I)  Repeat \'E\' through \'H\' until head explodes, a solution is found, or the whiny people with problems (if A.b) give up and stop providing the info we need to actually figure out what the hell is going on...

srry for being impatient...its just i spent several hours downloading game then downlaoding updates to find out i can\'t play...(dial-up)...i understand it takes time to fix problems and i for some reason thought the problem should be *boom* gone...so again srry and i will try to react in a more mature manner...

Like wise, also my referance to if anyone is working on this problem was realy only a sad attempt to keep my post on topic :D Realy didn\'t mean any offence by it.  So if i upseted you or anyone else, im sorry.
Title:
Post by: DaveG on October 31, 2005, 09:48:51 pm
Appologies accepted.  I know this can be frustrating, but its far more frustrating for whomever ends up having to fix these things...  :P  Old bugs are usually fixed rather quickly as you were hoping, but this is new, so it will take some digging.

What we have:
The client is loading the newer sound render from CS, which PS has not yet switched to.  It is also trying to load the sound renderer when sound is supposed to be disabled.  (2nd part is a new version of an old bug)

What we need:
What is telling it to do this?  I need someone who is getting that specific error to scan all of their PS files for the word \"sndsys\", and tell me where it is.  (if you can\'t find it by scanning text within files, it\'s in the source)  The first thing I\'ll do when I get home, is scan my files and the source.  (not at home, right now; I\'ll have my electronics lab for a while)  I\'ll find where it\'s doing something stupid (hopefully) and kill it.  If it\'s something not in the source, I\'ll tell you how to fix it; if it\'s in the source, I\'ll put the fix in it, and you\'ll get the fix in the next update.  (possibly a small update, within a week or so, if need be)  However, I know Rhad is working on the sound stuffs, and if this is all due to something REALLY psycotic, you\'ll just have to wait until that gets finished.
Title:
Post by: builder on October 31, 2005, 10:06:45 pm
@ DaveG: can\'t find \"sndsys\" by scanning so it seems to be in the source.

Hope you\'ll fix the bug soon.
Title:
Post by: Gunlex on November 01, 2005, 12:14:42 am
Ok, i understand how to scan the files, but is there any files in general that should be scanned? it will take a long time to scan them all...a certain type maybe?

-BTW, thanks for all your help so far!
Title:
Post by: DaveG on November 01, 2005, 03:19:17 am
\"sndsys\" isn\'t in the normal PS stuff, or it\'s source... It\'s a CS issue, apparently... crap...

Ok, anyone who gets:
Quote
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.sndsys.manager\'
specifically, not just the error number, quote your entire psclient.cfg here, please.

Edited to add:
Before I go insane... this IS a typo, isn\'t it?...

EDIT PART 2: I also see this lil\' message in a psclient text file...\"Warning: Cannot initialize iSoundManager\"...again not sure but i can\'t find anything that might be different...again thanks for the help...
Title:
Post by: Gunlex on November 01, 2005, 06:46:51 am
Yes, i\'ve updated to 0.3.012, and here is my psclient.cfg:

System.ApplicationID = psclient

; *******************
; * Part 1: PlugIns *
; *******************

; NB1: An entry in the plug-in list looks like this:
;
; System.PlugIns.FuncID = PluginName
;
; FuncID defines the functionality ID of the plugin.
; No FuncID may be used twice or more.
; Some parts of CS use this to distinguish between several plugins that
; export the same interface. For example, if you need a secondary 3d driver
; (which means: any additional plugin that implements the iGraphics3d
; interface) for some reason, CS will not be able to find out which one you
; want to use for the engine. CS will then look for the standard FuncID for
; the 3d driver. Be sure to use the correct FuncID for the drivers. If you
; use other FuncIDs, CS will not use these drivers for the engine (however,
; you can still use them if you ask for the correct FuncID, or if you accept
; any FuncID).
;
; NB2: a specific driver can be ommited, if it is not used.
; For example, if you just ommit the sound renderer, you will
; simply hear no sound, but the program will still run
;
; NB3: Plugins will be loaded in the same order they are listed
; here. This means that if, for example, a plugin needs the video
; driver during his initialization, it should come *after*
; video driver in the following section.

; First of all, the Virtual File System plug-in
System.PlugIns.iVFS = crystalspace.kernel.vfs

(I really should\'a only asked for the plugins part ;) )

Nothing funky in there... yep... CS prob.  :/  The exit crashes (if you get those) also have sndsys in their pile.  Time to poke someone from CS land...  I\'ll get back to you...

I get the same error when i tried to download the game on another computer. i tried to update the game again and noticed it stops at 99% at the file ibmng-cs.dll

So maybe that is the problem there...
Title:

i had the same problem, but after turning off the sound and choosing a skin in the setup file, it stated working
Title:
Post by: DaveG on November 01, 2005, 09:45:08 am
As already mentioned, the updater has junk in it, at the moment.  Just ignore the broken files, for now.

xilad:  Hmm... odd.  Ok, Gunlex, do what he said.  You already have sound off, but try selecting a new skin (and/or reselecting your current skin) in pssetup.  Weirder things have happened...  (though, it was probably a coincidence)

In all likelyhood, those affected will have to wait a bit on this one...

I also have this problem, but switching skins didn\'t help. (sound was already off) Looks like I\'ll have to wait until a fix is found.
Title:
Post by: DaveG on November 01, 2005, 11:07:14 pm
How in the hell?!...  o.O

/me head explodes

Ok, somehow the skin is connected to a not yet implemented CS sound thingy... now, that\'s just strange...

J)  Problem is fixed by someone finding a solution via dumb luck.  (hey, beggers can\'t be choosers ;) )

Grndmasta:  Does the bug come back if you switch skins back?

Yep, mines fixed too! THANKS!!
Title:

Title:
Post by: Shruikan on November 04, 2005, 12:08:28 am
Guys, guys...  :D YES! YES! YES! The solution to the problem is, run the \'pssetup.exe\' file, and instead of just that map, sound, card, etc. nonsense, do this. ( :D  :D )
Change the skin to \'stone\'. And that\'s it!!! You can also change back to default or elves, and it\'ll still work. I\'m not sure about any other solutions, but this is *The Solution*. How does this n00b know? I\'m one of the few people who had this ridiculous problem. ;)
Title:

Darn it!! This is a 3-page thread... I didn\'t know that.... So it\'s a bit late for my post I just made.... Darn it. I thought, newest post - gunlex? No way, it\'s karyuu!
Well, I\'m hopeless in forums, I guess.  :)

*Edit*

Hey, the upside to this stupid problem is, I think we\'re all at least lessers now with all those meaningless posts! Yay  :]
Title:
Post by: DaveG on November 04, 2005, 12:40:14 am
Hey, sometimes someone just stumbles onto the \"solution\" and we roll with it.  :D  It\'s not really a fix; there\'s obviously something stupid going on that needs to be fixed still.  However, if it let\'s you play, great.
