What are the best weapons people have got so far? Though pathetic, the best ive seen was a 64 slash.
-
Is that important for role-playing?
But if you insist: 540.
-
slash = high
but what about the other stats? ever heard of death by paper cut?
i\'ve got one with a speed of 1.90

considering that a standard broadsword has 3 slash and a Galkard, if i estimate correctly has about 10
these weapons are obscenely high
imo nothing should be more powerful then the platinum galkard is.
that\'d actually make playing planeshift a challenge
-
if 10.0 slash is high, my weapons both have 40.0 slash so i must rock :D
-
Doing maths again?
30/1.4
40/2.0
44/2.1
54/3.0
64/5.0

Not that I wouldn\'t cheer if I looted one, but i fail to see the purpose for these 200 or 400 slash swords - beyond bragging rights. (at this stage of the game)
I suppose one can slay an Ulbernaut pretty quickly with a high slash sword, but where\'s the fun in that?
Maybe it\'s just me.

I think godly (or ungodly) swords have a place in RP, but I agree.... there should only be two in the entire world.

Agreed.
-
Agreed, in a RPing matter in medieval times only the very rich and famous knights had those nice swords, so really they shouldn\'t be lootable from monsters, just as a very random event from blacksmithing or something

I do not want my friends who have posted here, or those who read their words, to continue to miss out on the fun.
So I will show what a Seer does, and point out what is obvious to me, for those who do not see.
First, I tell what is:
Although there are 35,500 characters that have been created since the wipe, there exist perhaps only 30 or 40 weapons of massive destruction, with a slash of 150 or more.
There are not too many of them, really.
So who are the owners, and what do they do with these weapons?
All but three of those that I am aware possess such things, are those who founded, lead, or assist in commanding a guild.
Some guilds now RP these weapons, quite appropriately, as gifts of the Gods, and treasures that are beyond price. Some have created wonderful stories, telling the legends of how these weapons were wrested from the hands of defeated demons, angels or sorcerers.
Most who own them, take it upon themselves to slay, when they encounter Ulbers and other monsters who have strayed from their spawning grounds.
So because of these weapons, the GMs have one less janitorial duty.
The Great Weapons make looting more fun, too.
Each time you make a kill, every player knows there is that small chance that this time, they may may be the one who gets lucky. Everyone who has ever played a lottery a second time, knows the feeling. And a lottery has to have big winners, or there is no point.
Most importantly, the intensity of the emotion you feel, if one of these treasures is loaned to you, is astonishing.
I cannot put into words, the stunning impact of receiving something so rare as a gift, or the emotion that would cause someone to give away such a thing.
To create something so compelling, is the greatest Art of all.
And this is what is to come:
Ulbers and the other monsters have been made more dangerous and difficult to kill, several times already. This will happen many more times, before all things are enabled.
We seem to be in a stage of the game development, where things are beginning to be turned on, at long last.
When Medium and Heavy armor, Body Development and Shields are enabled, and enchanted armor becomes available from looting, a player equipped with the best of them, will not be killed by a single strike, not even were there to be a weapon of 15,000 slash.
Do not be worried by this. The level of challenge will be adjusted appropriately for the balance of the world. The Great weapons will then be made more plentiful, and even looting the presently disabled 4400 slash, that the weapon naming system allows for, is not unreasonable.
Lastly, I would like to point out:
When the Devs put in the time and effort to create something, and they put it in the game, they have a reason and that thing serves a purpose.
If you cannot discover that purpose, or find a purpose of your own that a thing might serve, then you need to strain and stretch, and ask what if, and wonder...
For otherwise, you lack the imagination to RP with it, don\'t you?

as these things are rare only those who discover or acheive them figure out their purpose, and only those close to them also know of the purpose through their owners words, therefore, someone who has never come across or heard of such a thing wouldn\'t know their purpose, or of them at all
now don\'t you dare say those people lack imagination to RP...
back in MB the best thing you could get was a Galkard, after finduing the equivalent of 10000 rubies, it was rare to get that far, but -everyone- could do it if they tried, theres a distinction between hard earned things and simply rare things, personally i prefer the former, but this is not my project, therefore it is not my decision, and for one, i do not claim things nor set standards or point people out... strolling off topic but meh
-
I think extra powerful weapons, if there are to be more than one or two in the entire game, should wear out and break very quickly beyond repair. That way, people would save them for special occassions.
But there\'s so much that needs to be added into the game that tweaks like this can wait.

Dear Keyaz,
Thank you for looking where I pointed, and seeing.

I agree completely, that ignorance of an item has no bearing on talent for RP.
But my dear Keyaz, there are those who have said, here and in other threads, that the Great Weapons serve no useful purpose.
To these I say again this truth:
Only a person with a severe lack of imagination could be unable to RP with a weapon of the Gods.

This give me feeling that all weapons below 150dmg are now supposed to be normal.
It is funny which weapons was once normal and which are normal now x)
The mindless mass inflation effect!
It is one of the factors which may tell if given MMO is RPG or just Game.
Ha! Sure we want to have fun while playing. Sure it is cool to collect super and rare items. Only it is product of gaming industry and doesn\'t has much to do with logically built world. I have really enjoyed such system in games like Diablo. Only there is one issue with these games... people don\'t rp in these. I\'m not suprised, who roleplay in a virtual reality created in order to provide only fun? Maybe rp sometimes for fun. But to rp all the time? Such reality isn\'t created for this.
But why am I writing this? Maybe i still hope that there are still people who can learn to separate their desire of fun from development of good RPG
-
Nikodemus,
It is not inflation, nor is it mindless. It is what was planned, and the slash 540 is not a mistake.
Weapons and fighting will continue to be the primary focus of PS, until the day that a typical hunting warrior, looting weapons, has a smaller income in tria and PP, than some other profession.
Did you not read the labels in the skills screen? When all is enabled, there will also be a full-blown economy, with so much to explore, that a year would not see it all.
This is definitely not Diablo, and in no danger of going that way.

No, Nikodemus. There are no such people.
You are the only one I have ever heard of, who thinks the desire of fun needs to be something separate from creating a great place to play and have fun.
And it may actually be impossible to create a place that is fun without having any.

It was a test of the loot system, Verliit, and it will be highly adjusted to make sure none of these things pop up as they do now ;) But to say that it was done purposefully, to \"enhance\" the game or to give players items to roleplay with, is unfortunately way off the ball.

Suffice to say, you couldn\'t be more wrong. Well you could, but .... eh, nevermind.

I will be delighted to be wrong, Stfrn.
But when I said this, I was not guessing at what the Devs intend, but reporting how the players use what has been built.
And I pointed out a tipping point, in player behavior.
In conversations with several Devs, I have often seen a huge difference between what they intend, or even think they have built, and what the player experience actually is.
So I try to help them see what they have built from the viewpoint that matters most to the process of development; that of the player.
I believe the more complexity there is, the better. So I will be delighted by the surprise, If I am wrong by more than a little. For it will be due to a new and unseen factor or feature not yet introduced, or hinted at by a label in the game.
BTW, having looted tens of thousands of kills, I report that if it is not deliberately disabled, there are still several major bugs in loot generation for swords, daggers and axes:
There are no enchanted Falchions, Sabres, or small hand axes.
There are no silver weapons, that are not mundane falchions.
Sabres are never looted at all.
I have a sword named \"Platinum Blessed Shortsword of Peace\". To be consistant with all other Blessed swords, it should be called, \"Blessed Platinum Shortsword of Peace\", and it should have a speed faster than 2.0, and a slash of at least 600.
Gold weapons and some Platinum, are still at the same speed as mundane also. Since other weapons, like ornated, have shown up with enhanced speeds, I assume that the speed data has been swapped between them...
Gem encrustations that change the slash should not do so negatively, Etc, etc, etc...
I hope that helps, Stfrn.

All the things that exist in the game have the ulitmate purpose of enhancing the game, or to give players items to roleplay with.
A Weapon of the Gods is about the easiest thing to RP with, of all.
I am one who is very much on the ball.
I might just be worth listening to, Karyuu.

i could beg to differ on that, if anything a gem addition for instance, would not improve the quality of the weapon at all, other then slightly increase its weight, and make it look pretty, magically enhanced weapons should either be non existant or solely for magic users, ie qurterstaffs etc
theres already enough in warriors criteria for the game, and no matter how much you \'guess\' at it, it won\'t change that Planeshifts main aim is roleplay, and as of now, the main source of income is infact roleplaying and questing with GM\'s as they can reward you with experience points and conjur up a fair amount of tria too.
and now i see this \'heated debate\' circling in a pointless shoot off of opinions and facts of which no one really cares about

... You know, the super weapon of mass destruction is not the most importand thing in PS. for me, the best weapon is an axe, a simple woodcutter. it has verry good speed 1.9 and slash 2.0 . it costs only 100 tria and on axe fighting skill 5 it takes on normal about 10 or 12. but that\'s not important. what i\'m trying to tell is that mega slash weaopns are boring, yes boring. i had a small dark axe with slash 38, not as powerfull as others 300 damage takeing weapons, fire LS and others. it took about 70 on normal, so the monsters on my lvl like clackers died in notime! and the NPC bug was horrouble, i killed Gladiator, and annother and whole over again, looted FLS, claymore with s 64, but i saw that there are no monsters there left to kill with this slash. and when i see people takeing 200 or even 300 to rogues, aren\'t they bored? cuz 1 shot and rogue is dead, hiting 10 damage and smart using potions is better! it\'s RP like you go to mines, then you eat in Tavern, eat, rest, then you go to Harniquist sell the goods, not running!, enjoy your PS trip, the views!, then you give quest to someone to go to Oja and bring some water cuz it\'s not in Hydlaa, then you can slay some monsters, or what ever you like to do, !explore a lot with others!. When the NPC imperivious bug was, i saw a great gameplay. People went RP! no matter that you couldn\'t kill (cuz to non-RP players it\'s only way to play PS) there were always people really here, knowing that the bug is, not just checking. We had a great trip with Gag, Apis, Illori, me - Desed (not Desed exacly, other char. Fenki), and Mikel joined later. We went to the Stone face looking thing, i didn\'t know where it is btw now i know [thanks guys!], then the Terpor Valley, the ruins and a great picture. then the Canyon, oja and the Broken Sword. that was a fine RP not just killing like ppl used to do. i like RP and hope PS won\'t be just guild - monster_staying like in WoW, and lots of skill to choose in PS, not just a prof. with automaticly choosed stats. thats RP, enjoy it.
