Title: how to fix animation problems
Post by: c-2501 on November 03, 2005, 03:23:23 pm
i was having problems with the character animations for ages and tried everything on these forums but couldnt solve them.  the problem to me seems that everyone who posts only gives you part of the answer.

so i put together this step by step guide, hope it helps.

1.  open the updaterconfig.xml file with wordpad and edit the section titled mirrors it should read:

save the file and from the file properties box make it read only(the updater sometimes replaces this file).  this may take longer but the backup server seems to have a different version of the files required???

2.  from ur planeshift main directory delete all .dll files EXCEPT libcurl.dll, libz-cs.dll, xmltiny.dll and vfs.dll

3. next delete the config files.  planeshift.cfg, psclient.cfg, pssetup.cfg.  note this will require u to re-select ur preferences before u start the game again.

4. run the updater in recovery mode (updater.exe -auto)

5. run the setup, then the game and everything should be working properly

i hope this was helpful.  let me know if u have any other tips.

In my opinion, you could have added this to one of the 3-4 already existing threads about this problem, instead of creathing a 5th one...
__

Nevertheless:

Another possible reason could be using Vertex Buffer Objects. You shall not switch it \"on\", I read somewhere else.

like i said everyone else only gives you part of the answer.  this way i only had to post it once instead of  3 or 4 times. X(

u are right though disabling the vertex buffer can also fix the problem if all of the files are up-to-date and u still cant see the animations

You\'re probably just deleting the file that stores the vertex buffer setting...  The updater will always try to get the correct versions; you don\'t need to delete all that.  (Though, deleting a file the updater is stuck on sometimes helps.)  Deleting all your cfg files and then updating is all you need to do to reset your configuration.  The data/options folder contains, yes you guessed it, your options...

you know... this would help if i knew exactly what animation problems were. maybe i\'m the only one, i don\'t know. i have a habit of being the last person to know about something...

some people(myself included) have been playing the game without seeing all (or in my case) part of the character animations ie. the chartacters simply float along without walking or running and only weapons move during combat.

Even more strange: No texture/particle animation worked. So e.g. candle and fireplace flames appeared elsewhere in the room.

SEARCH for \'animations\':

I lost all my animations (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=20062&boardid=33)

I couldn\'t document it much more verbosely.
