Yeah yeah, but what about the longest Finnish word, eh? Eh? ;D
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myydell?ns?k??nk?h?n
Yes, that\'s 56 letters. I haven\'t run across a longer word (non-compound one), but I do believe that some languages such as Hungarian are capable of forming an even longer word with suffixes, because that\'s basically what the word is made of.
I\'ve been told the breakdown is:
J?rjestelm? - System
Ep?j?rjestelm? - Unsystem
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyys - Unsystematicality
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellinen - Something that is seen as unsystematicality
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?? - To make something/-one be seen as unsystematicality
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?t?n - One that hasn\'t made something be seen as unsystematicality / Something that hasn\'t been made be seen as unsystematicality
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myys - The act of not having made something be seen as unsystematicality
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myydell? - With the act... ^^^
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myydell?ns? - With his/her act... ^^^
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myydell?ns?k??n - Not even with his act... ^^^
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myydell?ns?k??nk? - Is it not even with... ^^^
Ep?j?rjestelm?llisyydellistytt?m?tt?myydell?ns?k??nk?h?n - I wonder if it\'s not... ^^^
Seems like that word is a nightmare to translate, and evidently it\'s completely incomprehendable even for a native Finn. Good grief! :)
-
intriguing, however, i keep my words short as possible ^^
I wonder about words that are known or understood worldwide...

Oh that\'s just ridiculous. 189,819 letters? Can\'t they just shorten it to \"Steve\"?

or as it says Titin, because it really is pointless having such a name just to hold a damn record
-
how would you feel if your name was 189,819 letters long...what if you had to fill that name in by filling in the bubbles. HOLY SHIOZU...
-
i\'d beat my parents for naming me somethign that long, then have it changed to something better, and comprehendable

Leave the Mexicans to decide on that word
-
i got a longer one....(or atleast one with more sylables.)
ultramicroscopicvolcanicisisoisis
-
Thats just a bunch of words put in to sound like a huge word...Continuing a new word off of the last letter of the previous word :|
-
Okay, that long word is way too long.
floccinaucinihilipilification however, is a fine word, one that I have often used.
For example, when you are mad at someone, but don\'t want them to really insult them, just confuse them, you can say:
\"Karyuu, why do you always have to be such a floccinaucinihilipilificatrix?\"
:D
(I\'m not mad at Karyuu ;))
P.S. That\'s why Robert Heinlein is the best author _ever_. That\'s where I first came across this word, in one of his novels.

Its not a name just to hold a record, its just the stupid IUPAC system for naming organic compounds, which fails miserably when you get to very long and complicated carbon molecules.

Wow, he can use a dictionary. In my mind someones worth as an author is pretty independant of their ability to use long and stupid words for the sake of it.
