Title: Timeout waiting for world to load
Post by: scyth on November 04, 2005, 03:36:55 pm
Keep getting a msg: \"Timeout waiting for world to load.\"

Ne1 heard of this as of yet? I just updated this morning my time, 9:15 am EST, Oct 4, 05. Playing on my laptop and have been just fine for awhile now.

Happens after logging in to server and starts to enter game. Says its requesting world then pop up msg occurs.

I\'ll be trying again from works in 4 or 5 hours to see if it works there.  I play on a desktop there.

It will be fixed sometime soon, the server needs to be updated...
For the updater not updating, there is something wrong with it (hence the update), and it cannot update itself properly. So to fix that you will either need to reinstall, or just download the updater alone and put that in the planeshift folder.

Alright, thank you, so nobody signs a bug report...

the easiest way to do it is to rename the updater something like oldupdater.exe and without changeing its location run it will dowload the new updater and then u can delete the old one.

Good idea- I had not thought of that. However, normally the updater first updates itself, and for some reason it is not doing that. So if everyone would please rename their updater, that will help a great deal.

Edit: feel free to update now.

The server in online again, but I still get timed out ...
Title:
Post by: Rolf Blacksmith on November 05, 2005, 01:13:06 am
The timeout issue is gone since the updater hotfix, but there is a widget not loading at the end of loading world:

Could not load child widget in file /this/data/gui/smallinventory.xml
Following widgets failed to load:
Small Inventory Window

Yet another issue to keep the devs from being bored ...

Just an update, since I started this thread:

I got on for about 10 minutes or so, but had log off and now cannot connect to the server again. for the most part everything normal except for /toggle run and some minor sizeing issues. Also appears the NPC server has been halted again, but I think that should be expected. didn\'t have the stats window freeze that plagued me last week, so that\'s a plus.

The updater is a little quirky, had to try and connect a couple of times but when it finally did connect, man did it ever.

Thanks for the hard work. Keep it up.

I have the same problem. But mine might show a bit more detail, as I have experienced other parts of this bug... or maybe a new one.... I can log in, (after the server was down for a few mins) I can\'t delete my char, I get the confirmation box, I say \'yes\', but nothing happens. I make a new char, but can\'t choose \'next\' or \'paths\'. I try to use my old one, and I get that same \'timeout\' thing.

The server is being screwed with as I type this.  Be patient.

I was going to post this in the Linux client area, but searched first and found this thread.

I get past the login and character selection screens, and then a \"Timeout waiting for the world to load\" error when it tries to load the world.  Console output:

Me too, with the Linux client; output as per Danok\'s message.

But at time of writing, 31 are playing... so its not a global problem.

If you are running the Linux client, then the updater does not update psclient. It just updates art and configuration files. You have to apply the latest pach from Xordan that can be found here (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=19389&boardid=41&styleid=2&sid=ed780224adfd836996573acdea0ae74d).

I think you get the timeout error if there is a mismatch in database versions. Server has one version and your client wants another version.

thank you very much  !!!

That\'s good

(except that the server is closed now)

It time-outs when loading the world for me too. I can\'t delete characters, or make new ones (It\'ll let me into the select race bit, but not any further - next button won\'t work)
I downloaded and joined about a week ago, and updated it when I downloaded it.

It\'s only been doing this for the past two days, if that means anything to you.

I\'m feeling deprived :\'(

I\'ve got nothing to do with linux, and haven\'t got a clue about the technical side of things.

Is it something at my end or at the server\'s end?

Would the rats being impervious to attack have anything to do with it?

Post by: Bereror on November 06, 2005, 09:50:02 am
If you downloaded and updated the game a week ago, then your client needs to be updated again because the server software was upgraded once more just few days ago.

If you are using Linux, then a patch can be found here (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=19389&boardid=41&styleid=2&sid=94cc17b13468cffe93df8537bcfaf97b).

So, how do I get the widgets working, now that I\'ve dealed with the timeout thing?

If you get complaints about the small inv not loading, then you will want this file from CVS:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml?content-type=text%2Fplain&rev=1.3

Copy it to planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml, and you will have to mark it read only so the updater doesn\'t erase it everytime.....

Has there been some new updates as of the past few hours (1pm CST here)?

Here has been my past 24 hours or so..

--I get the message discussed in this thread

--I update - about 24MB = 2 hours

--I get ingame but get in an infinite loop of spawning in the death realm in mid air and plummeting to my death.  I am advised to update.

--I update again using -auto - another 17MB = 90 mins.
Too late, time to go to bed.

--I start update (with -auto again)...another 12MB = 90 mins (speed is even slower than last night!)

--I remember that I had problems with key shortcuts so before I get ingame, I edit the key_def.xml file and get things just right.

--I start the game and get the same message again...\"timeout waiting for world to load.\"  X(

--I start updater again only to find another 17MB update! (including the key_def.xml file)

?(  Baaaah!

Perhaps by the time my update is done, another update is required?  :P

I\'m not complaining, really.  I realize that everything is in development.  So its ok, I\'m patient.  I just thought I would recap events since last night for entertainment purposes.  ;)

Go to planeshift directory.
Edit updaterconfig.xml
Change active id = 1 for active id = 3
3 will select the 3rd mirror, which is the only one so far that\'s proven to have a correct DR version. Once updated you\'ll find that you spawn where you\'re supposed to in the DR.

I was able to get in game (haven\'t tried your tecnique yet Nilrem) for awhile.  I just tried again and got the same message.  I had just updated 5 minutes ago.  (Only a 20 minutes update this time  :) ).  So I updated again and it only downloaded the trepor.zip file.  For some reason, that one has occurred in every update I have done.

update: after repeated timeout messages I changed the active id (thanks, Nilrem).  Got another 17MB update but this one took 2 mins!!   8o   I was only getting speeds of 4-8 kB/s off the default mirror.  Here I was up to 300kB.  You mean I have been suffering with these slow updates all this time for nothing??

I really have to pay more attention to the forums.

any ideas on what to do?
Title:
Post by: Grndmasta on November 11, 2005, 01:36:02 am
Alright everyone...The problem you all are having is that the updater is not updating itself...You have to go into the planeshift directory and change name of updater to some like oldupdater or whatever...it will then create a new updater that is the new version (apparently the updater cannont update itself when being used)...after you have the new updater you have 5 total mirrors...i believe mirrors 3 and 5 have uncorrupted DR files...(i used 5 and it worked fine and i hear 3 works too for sure)...then this should fix your problems....hopefully...

Post by: WizardsRule on November 11, 2005, 03:13:12 am
Ok guys, I have uncovered the REAL way to fix the problem.  All you have to do is to delete libmng-cs.dll and run the updater.  No thanks are necessary.

Ok that didn\'t fix the World Timeout Problem
Title:
Post by: WizardsRule on November 11, 2005, 03:46:41 am
That\'s wierd, it did for me.

Try this then:
Run the updater and see which files fail to update.  Delete those files.  Rerun updater.
Title:
Post by: Luthien on November 11, 2005, 04:26:31 am
nothing failed, I just keep getting the trepor.zip and I still have a Time out prob.  what is the latest version od the updater I dont\' know if mine updated properly
Title:
Post by: Uyaem on November 11, 2005, 11:23:45 am
In that case, try to find the trepor.zip in your file system, delete it, rerun the updater, try again. :)
Title:
Post by: Grndmasta on November 11, 2005, 06:32:36 pm
When i got the new trepor.zip file i had to delete my whole models file for some reason...so if your computer won\'t let you delete only trepor.zip file try deleting the whole models file (dial up beware its about 20 mb download)...
Title:
Post by: Luthien on November 14, 2005, 07:37:26 am
I\'m just reinstalling the whole thing, I updated the client on my parents computer just fine, which is odd :-S.  I\'ve had PS on that computer since version0.03.00.04 or something like that....waaaaayyyy back in the day!

Post by: DaveG on November 21, 2005, 04:42:45 am
1)  Update.  If it doesn\'t like to update something, delete it and run again.

2)  If it dies trying to update the updater (or something it needs to run), download it here and extract the zip\'s contents into your PlaneShift folder:  Click here (http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/updater1028.zip)  OR here (http://laanx.fragnetics.com/updater_hidden/updater1028.zip)

3)  If you\'ve done that and it didn\'t work, find (or add) the \"Planeshift.Client.User.Persisttimeout\" option in psclient.cfg and bump it up to 60 or 120 seconds.
