eTrust... hmm, you really must trust them. A very respected PC magazine reported eTrust to be one of the least reliable ones instead, and therefore scolded Microsoft for a really half-baked \"solution\" on their latest security CD.
For emergency checks, I would recommend the following free-of-charge antivirus tools first:
- GriSoft AVG Free (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1)
- eset NOD32 (http://www.eset.com/home/home.htm) (test version, and free single cleaners)
- H+BEDV Antivir Personal Edition (http://www.antivir-pe.de/) (german product)
- F-Prot (http://www.f-prot.com/currentversions.html)
- McAfee Stinger (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/) (only current wildlist)
- TrendMicro SysClean (http://de.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/products/tsc.php) (only current wildlist)
These shall be the best free emergency scanners available. You may use eTrust as well, but not only that one.

I hope all goes well with your computer, though. :(

We had an old Windows 98 Acer Aspire computer that was connected to the net before this one and that used to get hit with maybe 50,000 viruses per day :(. so I got a new one and yeah, it still gets viruses but it\'s better than the other one. I personally would like to thank LigH for mentioning AVG antivirus from Grisoft. Good scanner that. but i\'ve re-programmed and updated most of the files on the old comp and i\'ll soon put that back on the net, if my parents will let me do it again

Well I dont have a picture of it (there wasnt much to be seen, but nothing) When my Windows got the bright idea to totally kill my registry. My bro fixed it with some pretty wierd hack, but two weeks later it broke down again, sooo... I\'ve just Format C:ed

People, seriously... please, for your and everyone\'s benefit, please use a halfway decently configured firewall, an up-to date virus scanner (I use avast! antivirus (http://www.avast.com/)) and good practices when downloading and installing software.
The malware can only spread so easily because people don\'t have at least somewhat secure systems. :(
Of course that still won\'t help you when companies like Sony decide to hack your computer and install trojans (http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/10/sony-rootkits-and-digital-rights.html) on it without bothering to tell you...
