lol isn\'t that from Magic: the Gathering? kitsune ninetails? great name.
Mine\'s name is Firestar Hunett (Hunett cuz he is part of the family now).
I am about to post about him in the role-playing section.

no, i dont play magic. i thought - its half fox, kitsune means fox. Elder kitsunes had nine tails. thus, Kitsune Ninetails

there are a few names i would like to choose from, though i dont know it they are suitable.
/me\'s first choice would be a name shared with the coolest guitarist in the world, thats right mr guitar man from the offspring. but that would be frowned upon so one will have to place ones thinking cap upon ones head.
...also there is the fact that i need to log in and work out how to get one.
and before doing that i will have to stop listening to \'Jimmy Eat World - Get It Faster\' (its a great song)

Mine bit me yesterday on my tail!!! I think it is teething, anyone have some whisky I could borrow. ;) I named mine Nibbles zorbels. If I did not have to have a last name attached it would just be Nibbles.
/me whips out a brush and grooms Nibbles and tries to teach the little guy new tricks.
[Edit] Shorty13 I enjoyed babysitting yours yesterday, very well behaved!! :D

My pets name is Murr Murr, he\'s the cutest thing I\'ve ever seen ^_^
But he needs a bit of training, yesterday he bit a nice dwarf lady on the finger and he wont obey any of my commands :rolleyes:
At the moment though I\'m a bit afraid to take him on display in front of public, some jerk hit him at the magic shop and then he logged off before I could retaliate :(

yeah, some people are insensitive. They keep walking all over the groffels. Luckily, I always keep a stash of healing potions with me :D .
/me shakes fist angrily at people who walk all over the cute little groffels.

Just out of curiosity, can any two pets have the same name, or is a pet\'s name unique? Also, can a pet share a name with a human?

a question about RP\'ing, to the pet name... Does my Pet\'s name also have to have RP\'ing type name?
I only ask because, honestly, the whole RP\'ing thing...isn\'t my thing. I play PS because it\'s free, runs on linux, has a lot of promise to be a great game, and quite honestly is the best time killer around outside of Quake 4, which I can\'t play for more than 20 minutes at a time...
I don\'t have a pet yet, but I have figured out how to get one. I\'ve been thinking of names and I\'d rather have a humorous name for my pet than a role playing one... If it\'d be \"against the rules\" however, I don\'t mind coming up with one...it\'d just be more fun to name it something funny. :-D

This is just my guess but I would think that some of the general naming rules apply to pets too, like no l33t names nor offensive ones. But it is a pet after all and people give silly names to them in RL too. :)
Even if your not a big fan of RP, try to get at least a little bit into your character and think about what name he/she would give to the pet ;)

yes. it is pretty obvious that most of the rules, if not all, apply to pet names. you are hardly going to be allowed to walk around with a pet called **** ****** are you?
i think it would be best if you came up with an \'rp\' name rather than anything else.
i stopped listening to the song now, currently im talking about american power abusers with my friend.

of course, i think there will be a bit more leniency with the pet names. I mean, who really names their dog or cat \"Chris Johnson\" in real life?
we\'ve already had names like Twigs, Graw, Murr, and Nibbles. I think as long as they don\'t go to something like \"Obi-wan\" or \"r0x0rz\", it\'ll be fine.

Indeed pet names are different from char names, so AFAICS the only restrictions would be (not necessarily exhaustive list)
- no RL references
- nothing offensive
- no leet
- nothing otherwise OOC, like ponking fun at PS itself
- must be given by the owning character, not the owning player
- Edit: no well known names (book, movie, etc. chars)/Edit
So many cats are called \"kitty\", and therefore I think the pet names shouldn\'t need to be unique, either.
It\'s probably used to issue the commands ATM, but for that there could be another solution due to the limited number of pets any one player will ever have. I think if pet names are unique per player thing sould be fine, since a player can\'t control another\'s pet.
Another option is to use the GUI to issue commands to the pet instead of typing them, which would enable the code to use some numeric ID instead of the name.
Should a char acquire a pet with the same name as another of it\'s pets, then that second one could simply get an addition like roman numbers. Alternatively, the pet should get a lastname attached that is the first name of the previous owner, which would allow pet-sitting.
So it would be perfectly acceptable for some chars to have a Groffel called \"Doomclaw\". :))

i had a cat... it was called cat. it had a real name but i never remembered it and everyone would just call it cat. then it died.

Ehm.... not sure exactly what you are trying to get at. I would think you can name your pet whatever you like. I see nothing wrong with the what I named my pet. :/

No I have the same problem. I named mine Nibbles Z at first then changed it to Nibbles. It keeps coming back as Nibbles Z. :/ I also named my pet Britney Spears for fun and for the longest time I couldn\'t get the Spears part to go away...... I didn\'t talk to my pet for a week.....
It is back to Nibbles Z.....

unfortunatly no a pets name does not have to be unique as i found out when someone blatently stole my pets name for their own

mine alters between Dr P and Seijuro Hiko, depending on his mood :) (im so annoyed it wouldent let me name it \'Baron Humbert von Giggenden\')
is there a naming policy for pets? other than bad language is anything allowed, i saw someone use it to display their afk status before, or as their shops \'open\' sign. thought it was actually quite a good idea.

Roleplay names only, definitely no \"AFK\" status signs or store signs. The same character naming rules apply to pets, though there is more leniency towards silly names, like \"Beaky\" or \"Sunspot.\"

Well I have since renamed my groffel since the old name he had caused me to great of memories.
Blazer is his name now and yes unlike me he does eat meat. >.>
Dylia grumbles as she has to actually touch a fish to feed her groffel then thinks its a good thing she loves the little bugger. :P

As I posted before I like to call my pet Nibbles, but the gods of Yliakum do not agree at times . So Nibbles is also known as Spazmo .... and to the owner of \"real\" spazmo I do not intentionally take the name, it seems to change all on it\'s own and I have asked GM\'s to fix it. They have but the problem keeps reoccuring. :/

I started with Razorbeak, then Mr. Bigglesworth but lately I have named it for my RL dog her name is Belle. Who knows what it will be next week. :)

The rules for naming your characters are as follows:
No offensive or vulgar names. (Swearwords, insults, etc)
No names using repeated letters. (No more than 2 of the same letter repeated together)
No adjective, verb or title as firstname. (Describing words, doing words, or titles such as Lord or Lady)
Names must make sense to a Medieval Fantasy setting. (Nothing furutistic or Sci-Fi please)
No names of popular culture (fictional/non-fictional), or trademarked (companies, characters, placenames) real or unreal.
The rules for naming your pets are the same as those for your character!
