Title: acces violation :S.

I played planeshift since earlier this year. and i even bought a brand spanking new graphics card for it. and it worked like a dream!.

sadly. my pc broke. and despite that. i wanted something better.

so i bought a new laptop.

Its a dell inspiron 8200 with the following specs:

Windows xp pro with service pack 2
256 mb ram
intel inside pentium 4 2,2 ghz
40 gb of hdd
32 mb geforce 4 440 go.

I tried to run the game on the very lowest as possible. but at almost the end of starting the game (the loading screen) i get this error:

I downloaded planeshift trough the torrent option to save the bandwidth of the team.

Can anyone please help me with this problem?

\"The server is up but not fully ready to go yet. Please try again in a few minutes\"

I will have to go away in 6 minutes for 2 hours so. so i will be able to check back then.

In the main time i will defrag my laptop with disk keeper.

and why should i disable the sound? Playing planeshift without music is like having s*x without having s*x. there is no more fun in it then.

I tried it 2 hours ago and i had the same text :(.

I also see under the server:

Post by: Karyuu on November 10, 2005, 09:23:09 pm: Anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, unfortunately :) There are never clear-cut answers for these things. Keep busy with something else in the meantime, and perhaps check back every half hour.

every half hour? you wanna kill me? i dont got a social life. i will check every 10 minutes. :)

what should i do? i tried the recovery updater. and it said alot of failures.

Post by: Nilrem on November 13, 2005, 04:50:19 pm: The error numer you reported was sound related problem, so you can\'t be having that same error again, since Karyuu already suggested you to turn off sound and you did so.
Perhaps you can\'t enter the game because you\'re behind a firewall?
Make sure that you allow UDP inbound and outbound connections on port 7777 (it changed since the last update so perhaps you still have the old port configured on your software firewall)
You say the updater in recovery mode shows errors, could you try to post them here? There\'s a log on updater.txt a file you\'ll find in your planeshift directory.
Also ensure you can ping laanx.fragnetics.com, if you can\'t try making a traceroute command there (tracert laanx.fragnetics.com)

I unchecked it, changed the resolution of planeshift to 800X600. Turned the sound off. and now i receive another different error:

also am i seeing my character with only his arms and legs. no middle body or head is showed :(

As the second one, server seems to be down now, relax.
As for the chars not showing fine...
solution: update your graphics card.
So since you\'ve a gforce, check http://www.nvidia.com and get the latest drivers that I think can work fine with your card (81.85 version)
Check again, when the server is back up.

it seemed i had version 1.01 installed on my laptop. which i upgraded to version 4.32 =/.

suddenly. everything works! everything in the menu goes smooth. i see my character and everything.

only no music. but i just opened winamp and played the music from there.

i still got 2 more questions tough:

1) how can i make the lag go away or atleast make it lesser. i am now running sometimes at 50 fps to 30 to min 11.

2) how can i get ingame music again?

once again thank you for the help =) i have gone into the planeshift universe and it still kicks ass!! :)

Post by: Karyuu on November 14, 2005, 01:02:37 am: If your system meets the minimum requiremets and you still get lag, it\'s not something necessarily on your end. PlaneShift\'s code, being still in development, creates a few problems every now and then.

Have you music disabled, and does it crash your system when enabled? If the latter, it\'s another one of PlaneShift\'s bugs that we\'ll just have to wait for a fix for :>

thats why i am running winamp on the background with the \"in the dark town\" theme :).

cant wait for the sound fix.
