Title: Looting
Post by: Gorzhuul on November 13, 2005, 12:31:20 am
(i want sure where to pst this, plz move to appropriate boards)

I think that every monster of 1 kind should give the same basic loot.....for example - I killed 2 rats and 1 of them gave me a hide and the other one didnt...that isnt very real because a rats not gunna not have a hide..... Unless its a naked rat........and unless its blind its gunna have an eye.

Perhaps the hide is of low quality and not worth taking...  Same with the tail and eye.

Just a thought,

well the fact is you could damage the bits when trying to get a hide or an eye. Should be more skill dependant though.

or, in the case of anatomical parts ...they could be damaged by the vicious beating required to KILL the previous owner

GAH ...Draklar ...beat me to it :P

i was thinking that today..with how long it took to get 10 tef hides..and i dont think they should not have anything to loot either..unless its a person typ thing like a rogue or gldiator.

I agree with both Draklar and Zog. That would make it more realistic. :D

Yea, there are besically two different sets of skills involved
1) skills requred to kill rat
2) skills required to skin it and take all what has some value.
The point 2) isn\'t developed yet, so everybody have the same knowledge about it.

But as stated above some of them could have been damaged too much in the process.

What make me happy is, mobs don\'t drop money or all kind of items.
Dropped money could be value of different goods the mob had and which don\'t have its models. Items could be things found in the spot where mob died.
But both are wrong :D

/me wonders if he has brought to this discussion somethink of any value.

then again ...
/me shudders at the visual of a kran fighting a rat ...with the end result being a very flat rat in a deep footprint
...ratcakes, anyone?

Rat-flattening is planned, but not yet implemented.

The flattening of one\'s foe, as opposed to hacking, slashing or running it through, requires a HAMMER.

Furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to say, that I have nothing whatever to do with enslaving Kran.

The vicious rumors that cities are being built, using the feet of Kran to drive the nails, is totally without foundation, regardless of how many Kran you might have heard complaining about it.

And I want their names.

I hope the skinning of the animal can be implemented soon...it could rank the cost between a low quality rat hide to a high quality rat hide depending on your skill...
Just a thought but why isn\'t there a broken sword or something since whenever I fight a rogue or gladiator they never drop longswords. It might be soo broken but wouldn\'t it be fun to loot a broken sword and mend it?

I like what they\'ve done with the loot generator, especially on the creatures, but I think it needs some more adjustment.

Like the rat, IMO it\'s quite unlikely that in a fight with the rat you will pierce the eye, slash the hide to shreds and rip apart the tail (unless you like to do that sort of thing  :D ). So they should nearly always have something to loot, here the tail being most common loot since it\'s not really useful in a fight to destroy a tail and the tail is relatively easy to harvest, you just have to.. *snip* ;)

Second problem I see is with the humanoid npc\'s.
Yesterday I was killing gladiators and there was moment where I killed maybe 10 of them in a row without getting any loot. Sound realistic? Not to me at least, unless these gladiators are actually some beggars that don\'t have any posessions.
Don\'t get me wrong here, I didn\'t like it when they were dropping special weapons all the time, there\'s wayyyy to many of those weapons in-game. But I would like to see them drop just something more often, maybe a pair of boots, a pointy stick, or some berries that the fellow was taking to grandma\'s house  :P

I don\'t really buy the explanation of the weapons always breaking (in this example 10 times in a row) unless they are using weapons made out of paper mache  :D . If the weapon gets damaged badly in the fight, we should then maybe get a ruined sword. Which, based on the stats and selling price, is a weapon in a mighty bad condition. Or like Besyleth just said, get a broken sword that we could take for repairs.

Then there\'s the case of some rogue-spawns that never drop anything, like the other rogue in front of Oja. He must be pretty bad at his trade

Well anyway, these are just my thoughts about how the loot generator could be made more realistic. I\'d love to hear more of other peoples opinions/arguments on this subject.

Reor, it is all realistic, but you are missin one point.
It isn\'t realistic that you can run around killing somethink every 2 minutes =P
If we wan\'t to have realistic loot. It is this with what enemy was fighting and all other stuff.... then NPC\'s life must be same as realistic ;)
I give example:
There are 10 gladiators at arena. They fight only when both sides agree and in most cases only at arena, when people are watching. If not, then the offender may meet consequences and may be called mourderer... You know, the one who is at top and pay gladiators for their job, won\'t be happy if someone is assasinatin his fighters. Do I have to continue?
Also NPC\'s don\'t spawn every 1,5 minute... and so isn\'t everythink else!

As long as this is unrealistic, loot may not be realistic.

So, people wan\'t to have both realistic loot and fields full of spawning every 1 minute mobs. And they want to have fun^^
Isn\'t it funny that ps goals is to have realistic world as it is suposed to be rp and be funny to all?

Moral: ps can\'t be funny to all at the same time <---- that is a bit offtopic and to people who think different.

Point taken  :)
I know the spawning and fighting isn\'t very realistic atm and I\'d like to see major improvements in that area, but this thread was about the loot monsters drop so I was simply giving my view on that.
