\'elloh mates,
seems i got myself a rather unusual problem while trying to update the game today, can\'t say to have found anything like it on the forums - so i\'d like to share:
Made a clean game installation, and the Updater seemed mostly pleased after several tries to match the current version.
Mostly meaning that there is just one file the Updater complains about, the famous sprcal3d.dll!
Good enough, my old friend the Updater (calling him such because we spent quite some time together) fetches the file, but upon restart he is mocking about another one, sprcal3dldr.dll this time.
Once he got this file, he gets back into the mood to demand that first file again, and the second one, and over and over again.
So my friend Updater requests sprcal3d.dll and sprcal3dldr.dll in turns, without ever being able to finish the update.
As i am a very ignorant person, i tried to launch the game anyway, only to be stopped quite harshly at the very moment i click on a race in the character creation screen.
Anything before this final click seems normal as far as i can tell, i am even able to rotate that empty pedestal which is meant to spot my glorious-to-be-avatar.
Can\'t say that pedestal does not look nice, but i\'ve had hoped to see more of the game instead of a small window telling me about a crash (details vary with screen resolution and such, but rest assured don\'t expect any useful information from these small blue buggers).
Oh yes, i should mention that i\'m running Win98SE because i am a dinosaur, but got drivers, stuff, and anything up to date with sugar on top under DX9.
Doom 3 works as well as Sniper Elite just to give some demanding examples, so i assume my system specifications are not the real problem.
But what is it?

Ok,
on your Planeshift folder there has to be a folder called updater temp and a file called updater.zip
Look there if you can find those dll it\'s demanding (make sure you have a copy of the ones in your folder before replacing them, just in case)
If you don\'t have them, normally Updater in recovery mode works better. To launch it, use start-all programs-planeshift-planeshift updater (recovery mode) He\'s like your old friend, but with less clothing.
If for some reason, he still wants to download again and again those same files, try posting the content of the file updater.txt that can be found again in your ps directory.
Also ensure that the Updater has the surname 1.0.2.8, if not, again on your from_now_on_new_mates folders of updater temp and updater.exe you\'ll have the most recent version of it, the poor one sometimes it\'s too lazy to update itself, and it\'s normal since you spent so much time together ;)
I hope this helps, and you\'re able to play. Welcome.
EDIT: Updater.zip isn\'t a folder :P
