Garance and Edouard are married. Edouard arrives home and passes an illegitimate looking fellow leaving from upstairs.
Edouard: May I know the name of that man who just left? Were you at the Funambules with him?
Garance: That man? Oh, him. An old acquaintance. He came to say hello.
Edouard: A most peculiar individual. What does he do?
Garance: He writes. To be honest, when I knew him, he was also a thief, and a bit of a murderer.
Edouard: I hope there was nothing between you and this individual. I trust you entirely.
Garance: That does you no credit. I\'ve never had occasion to lie to you.
Edouard: True enough. But please oblige me by seeing such people as seldom as possible. Actors, perhaps, but thieves, murderers... isn\'t that rather appalling?
Garance: Remember the young Scot you challenged to a duel in Edinburgh?
Edouard: I remember quite well. Why?
Garance: He wasn\'t nearly as good a shot as you.
Edouard: Of course. Everyone knew it.
Garance: But you killed him anyway.
Edouard: Feelings, Garance, in an affair of honor!
Garance: All because I smiled at him.
Edouard: Yes. In public, and frequently.

Discuss how people would react to this conversation if it happened infront of Harniquist with a moderate gathering of people around. I\'ll save my comments for later.

Was this an in-game conversation?

Pretend that it was. Instead of the original setting, transport it to happening infront of Harniquist.
-
How would I react...:
I don\'t know what you\'re talking about, I already got puzzled after the 2nd line!
-
the conversation basicly is a gealous husband who thinks his wife might be cheating on him at any moment.
Personally, if I saw this happening on PS...I\'d log off as fast as possible. Some people take things way to seriously, and if someone ACTUALLY talked like that in game in all seriousness, I\'d probably stop playing PS altogether...
Now if it\'s just someone joking around...maybe if someone decided to use PS for a Machinima series (anyone thought about this yet?), I\'d say \"so...ok...I\'m going to the arena now...\"

This is a modified version of the conversation Pirakika put a stop to after Zanzibar killed three people, basically the whole lot of people in that area were muted, Zanzibar got the same punishment (though should have been punished worse then us) and Pirakika said something like this \"I told you that pointless conversations are not allowed\" and then \"when a GM tells you to do something, you do it.\"
-
My feelings on this ...
1) Conversations of that nature are normally kept in private, not in a public place like the plaza ... unless it is the intent of one of the people involved to publically call out the other person. In that case I\'d say the person who brings up the topic in public is a jerk :P
2) That conversation is completely unnatural and bad roleplaying in my humble opinion. It lacks all types of emotional involvement, the language is way too stiff and there is just no way that two people who are involved together would talk to eachother like that, let alone when one is suspected of adultery.
3) Are Edouard and Garance gay or am I wrong that they are both male names? :P
In short .. if I witnessed such a conversation I\'d probably tell the people to get a room for arguing and the (gay?) make-up sex later on.
If this is yet another of your \"I\'ve been horribly mistreated by the local figures of authority\" threads .. then you disappoint me because I honestly believed you were past that stuff.
-
Shouldn\'t convo like this be kept in a private room?
Edit: I should like... not push the reply button and leave it opened for half an hour while I forget about it and do something else.
-
i would guess that it has nothing to do with me then ignore it.

Actually, it\'s a translation of some dialogue from the French film \"Children of Paradise\".
The business with Pirakika is quite different, and it\'s being looked into. I\'m more than happy to talk with anyone about that event privately.

They are French names, male and female.
-
I\'d probably walk away or ask them to take their discussion somewhere else...don\'t want to herre the rest...8)
-
I\'d ask the person who went and posted it on the forums what point he has in doing so.

Point?
People are still looking for those in zanzibar threads? :P
-
Well i must admit i am puzzled as to the point of this post too.
:))
-
:D I would tell Garance to get a real man and introduce her to a few, and tell Edouard to have himself neutered.
;) (In RL I would approach a GM and ask them to silence the couple for no one really cares)
-
Approach a GM to stop roleplay? even if it is a stupid and illogical roleplay, I hope PlaneShift never comes to that.
Personally, I think I would point out the apparent flaws in ooc surronded by brackets.
-
Hmm.... so we have a few people ignoring it, a few people reporting it to GMs, a few people wondering what the heck is going on.
This surprises me though, because I would imagine there would be at least one \"individual\" saying how violent characters can\'t possibly be true role-players.
Perhaps there\'s hope afterall?
And no, Moogie. It isn\'t a log from in-game. Like I said, it\'s from a rather classic if obscur film.
-
I\'m sure people would care more if they knew what the heck you\'re on about :P

I believe that goes for every single living being? Congratulations on ability of stating the obvious, none the less :P

By given you mean a thread that lacks any form of explanation, which requires a guessing game to figure out whether you try to address speciffic event that took place in Planeshift, or want to compare scenes of movie to what can be seen in Planeshift, or want to learn what would be allowed and what not, or maybe even want to address other people with what you think should be allowed...
-
well besides using OOC place names and he has shot someone and this isn\'t CounterStrike I wouldn\'t react to them at all most likely. Have seen stranger convo\'s then that :P

You always want me to explain every single thing in finite detail. I appologize if I\'m not willing to bring myself down to such a level for your convenience.
-
Yeah, because when creating a thread, it isn\'t required to explain its topic throughfully in order to have a successful discussion. Nope, not at all.
And the above wasn\'t a sarcasm, nu-huh :P
And finite detail? Haha, I ask you to explain anything at all.
When discussing something it would be good if anyone besides you knew what you\'re talking about.
-
Like I said, it\'s your problem. You\'re free to ignore any threads which you feel are beneath you intellectually.:)
-
Excuse me?
I pointed out numerous things that this thread might be about and asked you to clarify it.
One of the principles you have to take care of when creating a discussion thread is the \"why\".
Why must it be created, what good it will bring to the community. If it brings nothing besides a number of pointless posts, then it doesn\'t bring much.
If you\'re not going to clarify the actual reason behind it, then it\'ll be nothing more than a line of opinions (which afaik isn\'t a discussion). It won\'t go anywhere, it won\'t bring anything good.
And no personal ventures, mister.
-
So I\'m guessing you\'re not big on intuition?
-
Allow me to quote myself:
which requires a guessing game to figure out whether you try to address speciffic event that took place in Planeshift, or want to compare scenes of movie to what can be seen in Planeshift, or want to learn what would be allowed and what not, or maybe even want to address other people with what you think should be allowed...
Feel free to point out which of those don\'t fit this thread. And give reasons!
Nah, ok just kidding :P
I know you won\'t do that. I\'m done.
-
Most people aren\'t into intuition. We naturally feel curious, and feel annoyed when a \'secret\' like this one is kept from them, even if it is as small as this one.
I\'m just mentioning.

Yeah, except that everything here is out in the open, and Draklar has proven to have the habit of seeing secrets where there are none. I don\'t hold it against him, but he needs to learn when to let things rest.

I think it\'s time these one-on-one arguments die down. If a thread starts trailing into the \"Why-was-this-posted\" territory (as this one really has been), a simple answer instead of a chasing game would be nice. But simply put, enough bickering ;)
-
To get it out of the way: zanzibar, while your posts are interesting and provide a good challenge to get at the meaning, I personally think you are excluding those who don\'t have the time or the care to figure out your meaning. These people could still make thoughtful contributions to the discussion, but not when they don\'t understand what it is about.
As for the topic at hand, the conversation in a general sense isn\'t bad. In a specific sense, the role-play is pretty cruddy: first, it wouldn\'t be public. No one would have a discussion like this in public. Second, the language, while very flowery, isn\'t what I\'d like to see in Planeshift. It is too formal, too stiff to feel \"normal.\" Little medieval colorings (\"Thy,\" \'Tis,\" etc) are fine, but that dialogue was too far out of the normal range, more in the structure than the vocabulary. No one talks like that. ;)

Agreed.

All settled then. We\'ve concluded three things from this discussion:
1. It has no topic. At least one the thread starter is not willing to share. Thus it\'s closure time, because these are not YOUR forums, they are OUR forums. Perhaps you should do a little research into figuring out what exactly a forum is, and why people -besides you- are allowed to register and post on it.
2. It has nothing to do with PlaneShift, apparently, therefore does not belong in General Discussion. For one claiming the intellect of other regular posters here is below-par, I would at least expect you to know which forum area to use. Moving to Hydlaa-Plaza.
3. If you start another thread like this it\'s not even going to exist after I or another mod has seen it.
