Title: Updated, no text/words!

Hi everyone,

I am new to this and very happy that I finally found people dreaming of open source RPG as I did so long. I am a Sound Engineer, living in Wales, from Germany and I would like to have a look around in the world of planeshift, but there is  problem.

Well I searched for it 1 hour through the search function, but no thread on the forums are actually dealing with this problem, or I simply can\'t find it. So sorry that I need to bother you with this guys, but hey, what\'s a community for anyway :D

Ok, I installed planeshift and ran the updater, and I wanna start the game, but then nothing but the backround graphics appear on my screen. Not even the main buttons, nor any text?!

If you could help me with this, I\'d be very grateful! Actually, were do I need to apply if I wanna help developing PS? I could deliver soundwork for the game. But that I will look up on the page again.

My main problem IS the missing text, because I don\'t know what I should be typing, nor am I seeing any model of a character I\'d like to create.

Thanks for not pointing me straight to the search function, I already tried that, really. At least give me a link to an existing thread, if I missed it.

OMFG!! the excact same thing is happening to me... (searched around 4 an hour) and loged onto the froums, and found the perfect thread right here......

The same thing is happening to me.... it\'s sort of texty... but.... more like a bunch of lines..... it\'s crazy..... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME!!

Yes, that\'s the same problem alright!

I\'ve got these strange lines coming up, which are like box-shape like, and when I press a button they even change, so they are propably supposed to be the letters we should see.

Yeh, I forgot to say that with the lines, Thx Neo/dbf?

If everything is updated, then changing the skin in the setup may help.

Neo is my name...... if you\'ve heard of a game called Halo 2 on Xbox (of course you have)..... that\'s my clan (oo DBF oo)....

and..... you can\'t change the skin in the setup 4 me...... the boxes are there too...... THERE EVERYWHERE!!

Yeah, that really is the problem, I would try to fiddle around it like I have to do almost every day with the PC, but I can\'t even try. I am a new user, so I don\'t know where the options are supposed to be, and the missing letters don\'t make the thing easy as well :)

But I am confident that we can solve this together somehow 8)

@Neo: Of course I have heard of Halo 2 (played it through a couple of times with a mate of mine.) Unfortunatly I can\'t effort an Xbox for my own at the mo :(

Awwwwwww....... well..... the Xbox should live fro about 2 years after thte xbox 360 comes out.... so get one then.... it\'ll be really cheap... get Xbox Live too..... I have it.... but..... my dad is queer and banned me from it..... I don\'t know when I\'ll get it back.... I\'m good too..... now I\'ll be crap when I get back on.... and everyone left my clan.... so I have to get them back..... god.... I have to start again..... lol....

Have you tried to update your graphics card drivers? there have been issues with some cards and older drivers.

well..... this PC was recently pimped up..... so it shouldn\'t be the GC..... I can play Halo and that on this....

list card, model, os, driver version.

but traditionally this has been an issue with graphics drivers. or it maybe because of the ocing on the card.

and playing halo on the comp means nothing. becuase ps is better then halo.

Hm. The S3 Twister doesn\'t seem to support OpenGL. How much RAM do you have, also?

far below 512, but i just wanted to have a look until my new pc comes along next year.

But, I should say, that why doesn\'t it support OpenGL, or is there a Direct3D option?

Planeshift is a cross-platform game running on Windows, Linux and OS X. The only cross-platform option is OpenGL.

Please no need to get impolite.

Halo is simply a different type of game, emerged from a whole different ground of growth.

I am a fan of bungie, these guys know how to produce under pressure, and they do it their way. I met the sound programmer once on the E3 and he was really nice, u could ask him lots of questions about the actual development, and it was fun.

These guys a hard working and brilliant, but this is different!

Planeshift is an open source project, and there is no way comparing the two in art or anything! Not to say PS is bad, of course not, its different. I might end up highlevel, and i personally believe so very much, but it is not to be compared with a high budget high end, mainly console based Action title, I mean, come on?!

So lets get back to the actual problem, lets work on what really matters for PS and the open source philosophy, the community! I am not able to run the game yet, but I am more then willing to work on it, to advertise it where and when I can, because I believe in the idea, not because I get paid to do so. This motivation might come to comercial studios when times are luckey, but they are not the rule.

And this motivation is what drives us, which is in a sense our capital, our budget :D

So, if anyone can think of a way to help me and others in need for a software-rendering solution, that\'ll be great!

Alright.... sorry..... I just get sick of fanboys (when these guys obviesley don\'t have billoins of dollars and are supported by MS).... they\'ve obviesley done very well with what they\'ve got.....

But, I can\'t stand fanboys that say (there favorite game) is THE BEST GAME EVER AND EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS!!

PS: Yes, a couple of years ago, was fun. Expensive but fun :) I can recommend going there, also because of the developers, not only for the E3 babes ;)

Ok I just DLed Crystal Blue today. I once upon a long time ago had installed MB. now when I first installed it I had a similar problem to this (and I\'m getting the same problem as you guys atm right now so I\'m in the same freakin boat as you guys) , now I can load up the old MB and read everything fine, its just...I can\'t remeber what the heck I did to fix the prob.

Oh and just as a side note, I never got around to playing MB either but because of problems with a firewall not alowing it to go through. Now I know the firewall problem, but now I can\'t read a freakin thing in CB.

Ok I did a little digging through the files and what not and I decided to post something from one of the files that displayed font and what not. now I don\'t know if this will prove useful in finding a solution, but at least I\'m trying.... Ok so here it is:
