Title: Annoying realm
Post by: Nero da 2nd on November 25, 2005, 10:33:41 pm
Wouldn\'t it be nice to log onto planeshift and say \"time to whoop some ass in the plaza today!\" Or say \"man i can\'t wait to get out here and duel some people!\"

Well, you could, but what about the death realm? That annoying, underlighted, waste of time.

I mean, i have better things to do then get glitched at the bottom of a hole!

Mabye you wanna go out there and fight a monster, see if you can kill it for pride and honor and definantly, money, or your body parts strewn across the floor so help me!

But then there\'s the death realm...

True, it shows penalties of death when you go to the death realm, there\'s always a penalty, but seriously...some people can\'t find their way out!

Don\'t get me wrong; I have made my way out a few times, and all the other hundred million times i\'ve tried...i died from falling off a curb.

Now i bet you\'re thinking, \"well noobing accept the penalties!\" But this a very odd penalty if you ask me. I really think the death realm wasn\'t the brightest idea.

But what if you like the death realm? The temple near the plaza, the big red one (sorry i don\'t know many  names of places yet) has a big old pit in it, this could be the \"portal\" into the death realm.

But what would be the purpose hmm...

Mabye new monsters and secret areas, weapons and tools could be found in the realm of the dead, i think the death realm has much more potential than a stupid maze where accounts are usualy ended.

But then, no one would be afraid to die, and where would you appear when you died?

First off, if you die, you\'d end up at the plaza.

Second off, when you die you chose two items from your inventory to be left behind, you MUST choose in 5 minutets, or it will choose your two most valuable items and ditch it. (best i could think of)

I really think that annoying realm isn\'t a good idea for a death penalty, plus some peoples 3d cards aren\'t so good (like me) and they can barely make the ramps out from the darkness below. And numerous times, people fall to the bottom and can\'t get their way out.

OK, this is one of the few times where I am 100%sure that reading the post would be a waste of time. I have read some of the other sad trolling stuff you have polluted these boards with, and I only say one thing to you: leave. This game is not for you, the community doesn\'t want you, and the systemis designed in order to be as annoying to sad runescape rejects like you as possible. So troll elsewhere, OK?

Planeshift is a RPing game, first and most people would like to keep it that way.If we got rid of the death realm all we would have is people constanly killing eachother whitch isn\'t realistic in a world with law\'s.If we keep it  the mindless duel\'s will barly ever happen because mindless duelers will get bored of the walk back. Then everyone will be happy.

Oh wow, I didn\'t know you spoke for the community. So the whole community told you they didn\'t want me to write down threads? So far i\'ve only made 3 whole posts in the whole time i have been playing this game, ever since i activated my account.

And you said \"reading this post would be a waste of time\" or so you think...can\'t judge a book by its cover...or did your \"mommy\" never tell you that?

Why would the community want you either? You just said \"i\'m sure its not so good because my intuition tells me so so i\'ll just say the community doesn\'t want you and wrongfully accuse you as this \"runescape reject,\" that part i do not understand, what is \"runescape\" and why am i suddenly a reject from it?

Remember its a tech demo, the Devs WANT people to list down ideas, say what they think about things, what they think would be a great addition to the game, i\'m just using their system.

I really think you need to read things before you think you can just decide its a bad post just because of a misunderstanding first post he made.

Nero, Planeshift is about somethink else than all the games what you have played before. I\'d say, PS is first rpg what you have found and you have completly no idea how people think creating it.
If you will stay, you will have to learn a lot. If you won\'t, you will get bored and leave anyway. Most likely you are not mature enough and lack experience. Not gaming experience, but real world experience. Stay and listen or go away and play some mindless games

Mindless dueling? I\'ve made so many accounts for mindless dueling, the death realm isn\'t much of a penalty, if i die, i\'ll delete that account and make a new one, set my past life to random, and carry on.

 I can already mindlessly duel.

I constantly duel people, its fun, in some odd, twisted way. The death realm doesn\'t scare me much, its just the fact that i\'ve decided to settle down and try to accomplish something, but everytime fall off a little foothill i die and its another 2 hours trying to make out ramps.

About the walk back part, you don\'t need weapons to duel, you don\'t need to walk back, you could just create another account, easy as 1,2,3.

[ EDIT ]

Dude....why do your replies always have something to do with mindless?

You can mindlessly go through the death realm. Some of the death realm parts i do mindlessly.

Please refrain from double-posting. Simply edit your last post to add new information, if no one has replied yet :) --Karyuu

Dude...i like this game, why should i listen to you guys? This is just my suggestion, no need to call me \"mindless\" and \"stupid\" because, well, sometimes you have to put down some ideas somewhere, wether it becomes real or not, hey, i don\'t expect them to change the death realm things, i just think there might be another way.

Who knows, mabye they\'ll read my thread...and take it into thinking, tweak the idea around a bit, but really, please stop with the \"this game isn\'t for you\" crap, I did NOT ask for your opinion THANK YOU very much for your suggestion but I do NOT want YOUR opinion frankly.

No, it\'s not that I disagree with you it\'s that planeshift isn\'t about who\'s stronger than who or who has the most money it\'s about Role playing.

If planeshift isn\'t about who\'s stronger or not...why is there dueling?

If you ask me, a game isn\'t complete without competition. Everyone, at one point of time, wants to compete, wipe some guys smile off their smug face, show the other guild who\'s boss.

Post by: yayoo on November 25, 2005, 11:20:16 pm
Dueling is used as a tool for RPing and of coursse there\'s competition that\'s just human nature it doesn\'t have to be competeting in any of the way\'s you said it can be competeting for a ladie, etc

Like the rest said ... this game is probably not your thing and it won\'t be changing into something that is more your thing from the sound of your posts. Just because the devs don\'t plan on going that way and no player can make them change their mind.

Why don\'t you listen to what the others already said?
PlaneShift is not about constantly duelling people, it\'s not a hit-and-slash game. PlaneShift is about Roleplaying. If you don\'t like RP and just focus on mindless duels, you will get bored of this game quite soon and leave. (And, frankly, I guess there won\'t be much people who will regret you absence.)

Edit: We have a proverb in my country, that says the following:
\"Just as one calls into the forest, so it echoes back.\"
Maybe you should think about that before your next post.

The fact that you use multiple account as a method of circumventing the Death Realm proves that you do not belong in this game. In this game you need to role-play, which means playing as if you are the character. By simply recreating characters just to duel, you\'re not role-play, but fighting for the sake of fighting,  out of character.

You want to know what you\'re supposed to do in this game? You develop a character. You give him/her personality, wants, wishes, goals. You play as if you are this person. This person might like to fight a lot, but this person doesn\'t have multiple bodies. This person is also not you. If you can do this, you might just have a good time in Planeshift. If you can\'t, you won\'t be staying for very long.

P.S. Losing two items is no big duel, especially if you have a bunch of rat\'s eyes, etc. anyway. The Death Realm is far better punishment and adds a role-play reason for the death-life cycle.

I think making several accounts/characters just for dueling and then deleting them after serious penalties are distributed, warrants something of an IP ban ;)

It\'s abuse of the game.

Those two were the funniest parts of this thread xD

Seriously though, as others said. This game isn\'t what you\'re looking for. What you expect from it is something completely different from what it is intended to be.

First Nero, I do disagree with you. The DR should be a long trip back. First to discourage ridicules amounts of PKing, and to punish you for bad mistakes. But it will also AFAIK also be expanded to make for more \"dead\" experiences. From what I know, there will be quests and other things to do down there in the future.

Also I would like too discourage you from the multiple account / characters thing. It\'s just bad form. Once you get a little more experience, one or two character you have invested some time in will be much more rewarding.

But mostly I would like to say that, contrary to the beliefs of some of the people in this forum, you are welcome here. Please accept my apology for some of the comments and accusations in this thread. If you spend much time here, you will notice the attitudes of some of the longer-term players. Please excuse them; they started out being left on the low end of other games where RP was set on the back burner, and came to this game because of that. But some have become over-zealous with that, and are highly territorial of this game. Some to the point of insults and what appears to be the \"legalized flaming\" in these threads to drive away people that are not \"their kind\".

Please keep in mind that this does not excuse behavior in this game that ruins the atmosphere for others. Please try to create a personality for your characters, stay in character when in the game, and do take advantage of doing more in this game than just leveling / PKing. And when you are comfortable and want to learn more about why some of these people are so passionate about the RP quality of this game, please ask.

Yes, I\'d like to apologise for my comment as well. Of course you should play this game. It doesn\'t really matter that it\'s intended for other type of gaming and some features that will be implemented with time will bring your annoyment and generally discourage type of gaming that you are here for (just like the feature that made you create this thread - yes, there will be more of those). Some would say it is a natural behaviour to point people to games they would enjoy more and warn them from games that they simply won\'t like, but not us nu-huh. Stay here hoping that this game will become more of your linking, whilst most likely it will be quite contrary. I\'d like to apologise for my friends here too. It\'s not like by being here for a longer time we know the general aims of this project, as well as particular devs. Surely the case why most of the \'oldbies\' around here are all for role-playing and not for slashing the hell out of everything that moves, can\'t be because the latter group of people simply gets bored and leaves rather quickly. So as you see there\'s no possibility that you\'ll be wasting your time here. Have fun playing Planeshift and not some other, more complete game which would give you more possibilities within the pvp spectrum.

Now if you excuse me, I shall go to role-play tavern tea party in Counter-Strike.

Ya know... I used to be very active in this part of the forum... and this sort of thread is why I\'m not anymore...

DEATH IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TRIVIAL!

In the future, more penalties may be added.  We don\'t want people doing stupid crap just because there are no consequences.

Here\'s a tip:  In the past, I and others have had little duel events.  We just held them inside the Death Realm.  That way we could die, not have to walk far, and we would be out of the way of everyone else.  (and, if we wanted to heal, we\'d just jump off a cliff :P )
Title:
Post by: nattuo on November 26, 2005, 06:32:44 pm
the one thing i think they should do is make it harder to die from falling or if not add some depth perception i don\'t want to whine but i often think a gap in this game is much smaller than it really is anhd seeing as depth perception is... difficult in a game(speaking as a programmer) then making it harder to die from falling would be a good choice. eg. in the town you respawn in the edge infront of you if you walk off it takes off about half your health(i onbly started recently so i don\'t know if that chages or not) how about making it only take off 1/3 of your health.
Title:
Post by: Moogie on November 26, 2005, 07:28:06 pm
We\'re aware of the poorly balanced fall damage and other aspects of the game that require a hell of a lot of tweaking before they will be right or \'fair\'. Right now, yes, it\'s too easy to die, and the penalty is currently too topheavy in comparison. This is not how the game will stay.
Title:
Post by: Suno_Regin on November 26, 2005, 07:53:52 pm
Well, fall damage should also be related to your character\'s race. I mean, I\'m an Enkidukai, I would be able to survive heights and land on my feet. Instead, Mitaki runs down a staircase, dies, and \"So ends the legend of Mitaki Shinito, the idiot who died falling down a staircase.

Here\'s a list of races I think should have reduced/no fall damage.

Enkidukai (agile)
Kran (durable)
Klyros (can soar down to the ground with wings)

The rest, would have normal damage.
Title:
Post by: nattuo on November 26, 2005, 08:11:01 pm
i think klyros should be able to all out fly for a brief period of time keep hitting the jump button while in air takes three times as much stamina as normal jump hold jump to glide takes twice as much stamina as running, how about that? i think all races should have \"gifts\" my klyros example the rock dudes should be resistant to stabbing and slashing weapons etc.

back on topic, it is a pain (especially being an Enki at the moment) but it is supposed to be a penalty (in a roleplay sence) I still think the only way to keep everyone happy is to have dangerous and lawless regions where there is open PVP   (dence forest or dangerous desert). But the game is mroe about ROLEplay than hack hack your dead.

Going back to Nero da 2nd first post, your point is valid but its already been said numerous times before. The DR will become a new world were people can buy stuff, kill stuff and RP as well.

DaveG\'s post made me grin, the suitably sized part that is ;)

other then that not much needs to be said, I never have problems with fall damage, the death realm or any other part of the tech demo

maybe I\'m just better at playing it xP

nah I\'m joking, some people are just unfortunate, some need more patience

The very only thing I can say to this point is \"Actually, not at all. In fact, it would stink.\". It\'d be one of the worst parodies of PS ever.
You might consider an FPS for that, where such thinking is appropriate.

Your accounts are ended there, because you insist, for whatever reasons, on abusing PS. It\'s you who must change, not PS and surely not the DR.
But in one tiny part you are even right: the DR will eventually become a place to dwell like the other parts of PS. However, this hasn\'t only been suggested already, it\'s even planned.

Absolutely not. Not a tiny chance at all. That was how it was before, and we had exactly what you want: continous, purposeless duelling in the plaza. Now with the bigger DR and different spawn points, this has finally vanished.

This is absolutely ridiculous, as has been stated already.  Even with the most valuable items people like you who just duel and duel and duel without ever achieving anything, not even PLing (not that that would be worth anything) wouldn\'t lose anything. I am highly inclined to think that this is exactly what you are trying: to water down the system so that people like you can get away unpunished.

The darkness has nothing to do with your video card.
I think the DR is very appropriate, and the penality it poses is really minor. Seriously, once you know the way, you are back out in under 5 minutes even with the current bugs in the movement system!

As you can see, I have read and commented on the OP, and I was quite right in saying that doing so would not be necessary in order to know that it is useless.
The DR\'s mildness is appropriate for the game\'s buggyness that makes you end up there a lot more often than you should, but when the bugs are fixed, the DR should be made so that it takes at least 1 RL hour to get back out, even if you know exactly how.

So far for the \"validity\" of the OP.
Let\'s see some of the examples Karyuu was talking about:
Let\'s start here:
Name: Nero da 2nd.
Then look down... sig:  Don\'t fear me...*pulls out gun* fear this...
But that\'d be not really bad were it not for the \"content\" of his posts. Just look at this thread:
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=20681&boardid=13

Sadly for this exercise, but incredibly lucky for the OP, his other posts that exemplify more of his mindset have been deleted. But there are some hints left, like this:
Quote

Not touching the subject of AOLspeak, while the bolded phrase could technically be viewed as aimed only at those who told him to leave, is in general his mindset towards everyone. The deleted posts contained more or less \"I don\'t care what you think, shut up!\" and \"I\'ll continue to abuse and cheat as I please because I like it!\".

Adding to that there is the obvious level of extreme ignorance that has already been mentioned, exemplified by this gem:

All in all I definitely don\'t take well to people who don\'t inform themselves before posting, and who also continue posting things like the above, even after having been warned by a locked thread, even openly bragging about cheating (in one of the deleted posts he said that he keeps creating new chars when the penalities for duel invite spamming have accumulated, and then went \"I don\'t care if you like it, I\'m going to keep doing it until duelling is removed!\" ).
A taste of that can still be seen in this thread:

This quote is already severely toned down from the initial ones, probably after having noticed that there are ways to deal with cheaters like him.

Having this sort of people in PS is worse than having no PS at all.
Therefore I do not apologise for my posts here, as I did mean them exactly like they are, every word, and I also still stand by them.
He has been given a fourth chance already (I\'d have stopped at the second one), I can\'t do anything about that, but I most definitely do not welcome him here (nor do I see reason to do so), unless the seeming change in mindset (as which his other two threads in the WL can be interpreted) is 1) more than just a trick and 2) permanent.

PS is for RP, there are way too many PvP and hack&slash MMO\"RP\"Gs out there already, so not even pity can be a reason for allowing that sort of people into PS.

Edit: removed a smiley that couldn\'t have been more inappropriately placed by the forum\'s parser

what seytra said, I personally WANT the death realm to be HUGE so that the whole lost souls of the abyss thing comes into context (i don\'t think that the devs intended it to be thought of like that but death realm is pretty self explanitory) i think you should be able to:
1) read in the library
2)slay demons and the like
3)explore
4)not know the way out after 2 mins
5)have an alternate route into death without dying where you have to fight the death guardian
6)have jumping puzzles
7)intellect puzzles
8)a training area for newbs who have inevitably died filled with rats
9)have to figure out how to leave by RESEARCHING the exit
10)have to use all of the above to escape

and yes i do know the death realm will be expanded but i doubt they intend to do that lot with it though mods do actually pay attention to players in this forum unlike some others *cough runescape cough*

Nero, I am sad to say this, but *most* if not *any* of your contributions to this forum have been rather senseless and annoying.

First the \"WarHamsterName\" thing, ... now this, ...

I really think you should go after the free offer of Anarchy online I *think* it is better fitting, ...

*nods to Seytra*

do you think this is even worth a rant?

Here\'s a list of races I think should have reduced/no fall damage.

Enkidukai (agile)
Kran (durable)
Klyros (can soar down to the ground with wings)

The rest, would have normal damage.

I think it should rely on a mix of your Endurance and your Agility, rather than your race, except in the case of Klyros.  In my opinion, those particular races are a little unbalanced as it is.

I understand that you guys disagree with me. Reviewing your posts (and the fact I made it out of the realm with a well earned 250 trias =P) I now realize my idea is not the best.

However. I think your whole \"omg you don\'t belong in this game, go away, the community HATES you, go away, we were here first\" attitude is completely unacceptable and really pissing me off.

Anyways, I think this is what you guys sound like (switching to Seytra speak now)

omgliek teg ottuat ehre ouy rea a rjected!!!!111oneoneeoneleven ciumouiniyity dowunt ilke ouy os togo ayeaew!!!!!1111oneoneoenelevelevelve!!!!!!\"og pwyal r0000nnasscape!!!!1111oneoneoeelevelneodne111\" Us o0nws j000 n00000000b13!!!!11we ar s0000 1337!!!!!

My advice? Next time you make a post, don\'t comment on this stupid community bull, stop trying to make me go to another game, and leave my personal life alone.

Seytra, mabye i want you guys to shut up, you know why? Because all it is from you guys is a bunch of talk about communities, runescape, and the fact i shouldn\'t play the game. Post about your idea, nothing more, nothing less, leave my gaming life ALONE, you are not my mother.

I have already changed my ways, I found it is better to buy stuff for dueling and get out of the DR.

Now I know you guys are going to say something irrelavent to the DR subject so shoot away i\'m going to screw around in Ojacrad and get double short sword.

(yes, I am very sure I made many grammar errors, but it\'s the best I can do, i\'m only 12 years old)

Children:  Please, calm yourselves...  Learn some maturity, and maybe you won\'t spark flame wars as often.

Seytra:  I know you\'re the resident idiot-quasher (and you\'re quite good at it ;) ), but you don\'t need to get so worked up about this stuff.  You don\'t need to make a 3 screen post to reply to a moron.  Short and concise replies are needed for this sort of thing; long and detailed should be reserved for intelligent discussions.  Please, don\'t feed the trolls...

Everyone else: This thread is useless, go post somewhere else...

But we\'ve all clearly established that your dueling isn\'t roleplay related at all. You make characters, duel, delete them, and make more. You do it because you are bored, not because your character feels the desire to compete with someone. You have (had?) a complete disregard for the penalties set by the duel system. So until this all changes and you show a real attempt at roleplay, don\'t try to cover your behavior with the \"I\'m-just-roleplaying-MY-way\" line.

Because you\'re not.

*edit* I also contacted you about your signature. Please resize it to fall within the maximum allowed height of 140 pixels.

Well this thread amused me enough that I decided to post. Forgive me if this is yet another pointless contributition, but geeze lol.

This thread reminded me alot of the first few post Valbrandr and I made.  They usually ended in closed threads because of flamewars with seperot or others that didn\'t like what we were posting.  Looking back at some of it, it was kinda dumb, but we were determined to stick with it and have been here for a year now.  In that time I\'ve made alot of good friends, and am glad I stayed, but there certainly seems to be alot of hazing going on when people first try posting, particularly if their first post is a complaint.

It seems that the people who have been here a while are sort of defensive.  The influx of new players comming and going makes them imatient with people until they have proven that they will be around for a while.

Nero - strangely I wasn\'t really bothered by your posts until the \" DUUUDE YOU ARE A REJECT NOOBIE GO BACK TO RUNE$CAPE\" post.  And that one was well, dumb.  I mean I got the point and all, and I understood exactly what you meant but probabily not the best way to go about it.

My advice (comming from someone who went through alof of flaming) is to not take things too seriously, and not post back a bunch of times with the intent only to argue.  Thats what I do in the plaza I  guess - but that forum is kind of for that stuff.  As things relate to the game - especially in the wish list forum, it is a good idea to make your point quietly, and politely.  It is best not to put people on the defensive with a wish.  No one will listen then.  Conversly try not to be too defensive yourself when someone posts back at you in the way Seytra did.  I found that post far more rude than your first post, and really was kind of upset about that.  From a personal perspective I just don\'t think anyone should be treated that way,  no matter how annoying their post was.

We all start sometime, we all begin somewhere - no one is an oldbie when they first arrive.  Somes transition is easier than others, but in the end the only solution is to keep an open mind and ear, listen to advice given with good intent, and stick around for a bit.  Spending time with something gives you a nice reward - expirence.  Thats the stuff lifes really made of when it comes down to it.

So don\'t take the rude people here too seriously, and also don\'t be rude yourself.  Its not a difficult task to have mature discussions, and I have full confidence that you are quite capable Nero.  Good luck and stick around - its an expirece worth adding to the tally of your life.

Your right, but it ticks me of when I see someone who just comes in [without reading the guide ,looking at the history or checking the rules] and brakes the rules and walks away again after a week [or less] of playing.

So, we\'re done here, right? Discussing the actual original topic of the thread?

Just checking...
