I have a file on my desktop \"Planeshift_CBV0.3.0312\" and My computer will not let me delete it. I always says it is being used by another person or program. Help please and thanks!
-
Reboot. If that doesn\'t work, reboot into safe mode and delete it there. (smash F8 allot as your computer starts up to get the menu)
-
haha maybe he was playing PS as he was trying to delete it ;)
-
It wouldn\'t care. This sort of thing has happened to people before. It\'s probably caused by a borked bittorent download, or something.
-
Or simply Windows. Windows regularly likes to keep ghost processes running in the background long after you closed the associated applications, just to be awkward and as an excuse to say \"This program is already running!\" and confuse technologically illiterate parents. Well, I find it amusing anyway. :)

I still havent been able to delete the file. I rebooted and also tryed safe mode, neither was successful. I do think it has something to do with bittorrent. Another odd thing that has happend is that when I bring up the task manager to see if there is something that would be using the file, it closes a few seconds after I bring it up. ?(

There are free software programs that deal with this problems, try this one for instance:
http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonbootdownload.html
It should allow you to move, rename, or _delete_ a file on a reboot. Just test if it works for you.
As for the issue with the taskmanager, is your windows up to date? and also, have you ensured you\'ve no spyware or virus on your system?
-
A safe mode command prompt will do the trick, if you\'re really desperate.

this sounds more like a problem with windows than with the PS file. have you scanned for viruses lately? or made any change to the windows components? you didnt say which windows version you were running are you fully up to date?

Im running windows XP home. I scan my computer with ad-aware daily. How would I go about executing the command prompt? Ill also try downloading that program...
-I checked for updates, none needed
-
start->run->cmd
-
what do I need to type after that?
-
Well I still havent been able to get the file off of my desktop. I am sure there has to be a sure-fire way of getting this file off of my computer, does anybody have any ideas?
-
I already told you how... Reboot and smash F8 repediately until you get the menu. Chose safe mode, and delete it there.

format c: and then select yes.
warning this will remove the file and _everything_ else on the computer. use it only if you know exactly what you are doing. do _not_ use it if you think you know what you are doing. do _not_ use it if you are just going to type it in and hope for the best. actually, get somebody you know who is really good with computers to type it in for you. and not the really good as in they can pull up ms word really quick good either. i mean the rebuilt a computer without a manual good.

I got into safe mode, it gave me the same \" file is being used by another program\"
-
So the program I linked didn\'t work neither?
mmm let\'s see if you can try another...
