Title: Update Released-10.3 nVIDIA should be resolved
Post by: Cha0s on November 30, 2005, 01:08:40 am
Hey everyone! I have great news. Thanks to dfryer\'s tireless work, today\'s update (minor update, still 3.012) should fix the nVIDIA 10.3.x crash bug. It may also fix the 10.4.x bugs, but he\'s not sure about that. If you\'re running 10.3.x or 10.4.x and are using an nVIDIA card, please report on the state of any bugs you have previously experienced by posting in this thread. Thanks!

Hello folks,

This is good, but now I have a problem. I no longer have the correct version for the server and neither updater can update me. The standard Updater quits after trying to get a 4.28MB psclient from each mirror (although a couple seem to download 100% of the 4.28MB). The updater.jar (which is an old one because I\'m running OS 10.2.8) says I\'m up to date after reporting the following errors:

Error dowloading repository.
Error copying repository.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks

eggplantboy: try the following please...

Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal(.app).
Type \"cd \" (note the space after \"cd\" ) and then drag your Planeshift folder from Finder into the Terminal window. Then press return.
In Terminal, type \"java -jar Updater-old.jar -mir 2 -debugmode\" and press return. Try starting the update when the window pops up. If you still get errors, paste the output from Terminal here.

r.guppy: Can you get me Terminal/Console logs of those crashes? Same email is fine.

arcain: just be patient for now. If there\'s a problem, I\'ll debug it with eggplantboy and fix it so you don\'t have to worry about it.

r.guppy: ahh, good. All is well. I misread the \"long loads\" part as still including the 50/50 crashes. Glad to hear all is working well! :)

Errr... arcain, since I\'ve now found out you\'re running windows, I can\'t help you. Try getting support in the normal tech support forums.

Hello ChaOs,

Below is the output from Terminal (I\'m afraid no window popped up):

[Ryan-Phelans-Computer:/Applications/Games/PlaneShift] ryanphelan% java -jar Updater-old.jar -mir 2 -debugmode
Exception in thread \"main\" java.util.zip.ZipException: No such file or directory
        at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method)
        at java.util.zip.ZipFile.(ZipFile.java:112)
        at java.util.jar.JarFile.(JarFile.java:117)
        at java.util.jar.JarFile.(JarFile.java:55)

Thanks,
eggplantboy

Edit: I\'ve noticed that arcain has described the same problem I\'ve had with the standard updater in another forum. I guess it\'s not just a Mac problem.
Title: great work

Hrmmm... interesting. I\'m going to put up an update to the updater later today (watch the Updater.jar split thread). Once I put it up, repeat the process and tell me if it works or if the output changes.

Hello again, ChaOs,

It looks like I had missed something. I downloaded Updater-old.jar and repeated the process. Unfortunately, it still failed with the following error:

Error checking for new updater.

You mentioned that you were to update the updater.jar today. Perhaps I jumped the gun. I\'ll try again later. :)

Edit: P.S. Below is the Terminal output that accompanies the above error:

java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -19
        at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1480)
        at Updater$3.run(Updater.java:553)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:554)

Yup, you jumped the gun a bit. I actually discovered that issue while I was working on another update. It should be fixed now (grab it from the website download, not through self-update) and tell me how it goes.

Howdy,

I re-downloaded Updater-old.jar from your \"OS X guide\" thread and repeated the process with no luck (the -noselfupdate is an invalid argument). Should I have gotten it from another location?

Hrmm... Redownload it again. :P I just downloaded it myself just a few minutes ago and it worked fine. Make sure that you\'re actually replacing the old one with the new one. You can check if you have the new one if running with \"-help\" lists \"-noselfupdate\" as an option.

P.S. If you can get on IRC (server: irc.freenode.net and channel: #planeshift), we can discuss it on there (any time in the next two hours). Just post your nick here if you decide to get on. :)

Hi ChaOs,

I downloaded Updater-old.jar again, and it was the right one. I ran it straight from the finder and it updated me without a hitch. I\'m back in business!

Thanks so much for your help. I appreciate it!

P.S. I\'m not sure how to get onto IRC. I\'ll have to look it up.

Ah, great! See you in-game. :)

P.S. You don\'t have to get on IRC now, but it is a good source of information, and people there can answer most of your questions pretty quickly.
